Current Status: Water Pricing and Cost Recovery
Water Tariffs in Egypt are among the lowest in the world
The current prices charged are insufficient to allow normal operation of Acs
HCWW and ACs are not free to fix tariffs for services they provide.
The government approves rates in functions of socioeconomic and political criteria.

Rural Sanitation : Facts & Figures
Rural sanitation coverage is less than 15%, which means that 40 million Egyptian citizens have no safe sanitation services (3170 villages & 30,000 scattered settlements ).
The estimated amount of money required to fill this gap is about 12 billion US Dollar .
Under the conventional solutions we need between 10 to 15 years to cover all villages with the sanitation service.

Rural Sanitation Initiative-1In the light of limited resources that are available in the meantime
in Egypt, HCWW is planning for rural sanitation coverage in phases, with low-cost advanced primary sanitation technologies as phase-1.
Proposed WWT-Technologies:1. Up flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) 2. Modified Septic Tank (MST) 3. Anaerobic Baffled Reactors (ABR)4. Anaerobic Pond (AP)5. Constructed Wetland (CW)
1.Rural Sanitation

Expected Outcomes
Get rid of sanitation problems outside the boundaries of the villages
Increasing the coverage with appropriate sanitation systems in rural areas
Reduce the pollution loads in drains to minimum of 50 % & help for self- purification in drains .
Protect water resources from raw sewage Low levels of maintenance and control, in the time where is
no enough skilled operators!.

2) Existing Wastewater Treatment Plants
More than 40% of operating WWTPs areoverloaded and needs to be upgraded usinginnovative technologies (no room for expansion, specially in Delta region)
Provide appropriate technologies that areeconomically and technically viable for the existingoverloaded wastewater treatment plants.
e.g: MBR, MBBR, ….etc.
