(Presents in English) Keynote Speaker : Ms. Kao Kalia Yang

Moderator︰

Kao Kalia Yang is a writer from the Hmong community. Her first book is

"The Latehomecomer: a Hmong family memoir." it is the first book to have

ever won two Minnesota book awards as well as nine other national awards in

literature. Kao Kalia Yang is a graduate of Carleton college and Columbia

University in New York City. She is serving as a writer-in-residence at the

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

understanding and representation of human life and family value) 。

Hmong Studies

Fluttering Heart)

with a special emphasis on sports injuries and wellness care. The clinic

employs one associate Chiropractor, Dr. Lance Glaser. Dr. Glaser graduated

from Northwestern Chiropractic College in 1997. He has been in practice for

13 years and has worked at this office the past 5 years.

Abstract: Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the

nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. The philosophy of chiropractic is

based on the premise that the nervous system controls all aspects of the human body. When the

nervous system has interference placed on it suboptimal health will occur. The most common cause of

interference to the nervous system is when a vertebra in the spine becomes misaligned, joints become

hypomobile, and soft tissue changes occur, resulting in abnormal nerve flow. This process is called a

subluxation. Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to examine the spine, detect subluxations, and to

correct these subluxations through the use of spinal adjusting. Spinal adjusting is a gentle, hands on

technique that applies a controlled force into the misaligned joints to restore the joints normal motion

and alignment, and to restore the normal nerve flow thus allowing the body to heal itself.

This presentation will teach you an overview of the philosophy and science of chiropractic. I will

show how chiropractic fits into the wellness paradigm. Attendees will leave with a basic

understanding of how their body works, how interference to their nervous systems affects their health,

and ways to improve their health starting today.
