HAVING BEEN BITTEN��

Exiting the Night By living late, and sleeping late, we missthe moment when the bats come home to roost—when crooked shadows flit in jagged loopsthat seem to seek the chimney, seem to miss,

then somehow disappear into the eaves;and they (the bats) tuck wing to fur to wingin crevices and roof-beam beveling,doze through our nearly diametric lives,

invisible as brown on brown—untiltoday, wakened by dreams, I caught a slight,compelling corner-glimpse in gray first light,

of sudden motion in the mostly stillnew dawn; and drawn, I rose to see the flight:our dark companions exiting the night.

��Tips To Avoid Coyotes: · Remove sources of food and water, especially at night. This includes pet bowls, fallen fruit from trees, and water in bird baths.

· Secure garbage can lids or store them indoors.

· Ensure outdoor enclosures for rabbits, poultry, birds, etc. are well secured.

· Put away bird feeders and leftover poultry food at night to avoid attracting rodents and other coyote prey.

· Do not leave small children outside unattended.

· Do not leave dogs, cats, and other pets outside unattended, especially at night; Santa Barbara’s Municipal Code 6.08.020(a) states that it is unlawful to cause, permit, or allow any animal to run at large, untethered and unattended, in any unenclosed lot or place; this includes cats. Failure to do so may result in a fine.

What To Do If You See A Coyote In Your Neighborhood:· Do not approach it.

· Make loud noises.

· If you have a close encounter with any large wild animal, pick up and hold children and small pets. Do not turn your back, instead make loud noises and calmly back away.

Youth Interactive, a 501(c)(3), is a creative entrepreneurship academy supporting youth and the arts in Santa Barbara County. This one-of-its-kind collaborative within the Santa Barbara art community would not be possible without many generous benefactors such as The Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, The Santa Barbara Foundation, The Ruth and Hal Launders Charitable Trust, The McDonald Boersma Foundation, Santa Barbara Beautiful, and The High Tide Foundation.

Collaborative working partners on this project include: Santa Barbara Beautiful, the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative, The Downtown Organization, Visit Santa Barbara, the City Arts Advisory, the Visual Arts in Public Places Committee, the Creative Arts Workshop, the Historical Landmark Committee, and Woodbridge Capital, as well as Marborg, Art Essentials, and CAW.
