family.• Different Chinese language

were formed in the same region due to intermarriage

between the different linguistic group.

AH BENG• Using Hokkien term “Ah Beng” is a

trend among Malaysian Chinese• It means simply a “country

bumpkin”• Ah Beng usually refers to a person

who has unusual styles and tastes• The term Lala-Zai refers to the males who involve in stereotypical

gangster activity or fashion

displays, art-shows, public

gatherings• Yangge

performance and stilt walking

1980’s - 1990’s• Chinese people first time embraced

culture from outside the country• Example : Hong Kong and Taiwan • Pop songs from the both countries

filled in street s and lanes the cities across the mainland

• Introduced Martial art films , gangster films and a new type of

entertainment locale called “ Video Playing Hall”

• Young generation started to practice wild and vibrant pop music

2000- present• Advanced

technology has made of possible of many new past times for Malaysian Chinese

people• Example : Personal

computer, smart phone, MP3, flash

video and Tabs.

FOOD• Malaysian Chinese

food is similar to the food in Southern

China as it is primarily derived from

the Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka and Teochew

cuisines.
