OBJECTIVES
Chinese Beginners Level 1 starts with basic phonetic practice and simple everyday spoken sentences
to lay a solid foundation for building up language competence. The phrases and sentences are primarily
presented in Romanised phonetic system of Chinese pinyin with characters introduced gradually. The 8-
week course covers the contents of Units 1-3 of the textbook “Experiencing Chinese”. When completing the
course, learners will be able to:
(1) pronounce the characters and phrases with the help of pinyin;
(2) use the spoken Chinese sentences in common greetings, talking about time and shopping;
(3) recognize some Chinese characters and phrases.
LEARNERS
Beginners interested in learning Chinese without prior learning.

CHINESE LEVEL 2 汉语二级
OBJECTIVES
Chinese Beginners Level 2 engages students in simple everyday spoken sentences to build up their
language competence. The phrases and sentences are presented in both Romanised phonetic system of
pinyin and Chinese characters. The 8-week course covers the contents of Units 4-6 of the textbook
“Experiencing Chinese”. When completing the course, learners will be able to:
(1) pronounce the characters and phrases with the help of pinyin;
(2) use the spoken Chinese sentences useful for eating at a restaurant, talking about information of
family members, occupations, age, making and answering phone calls;
(3) Recognize use more Chinese characters and phrases.
LEARNERS
Students who have finished level 1of the book or with some prior learning of Chinese.

Session 1 要一个宫保鸡丁！I’d like a fried diced chicken with peanuts.
Review the sentences learned in Units 1-3
