Icebreaker How-To List

Air Guitar Contest *PROP Set Up: Start a great guitar song and simply encourage involvement with either an air guitar or a blow up guitar. Simply blow up the guitar and throw it out to the craziest person on the dance floor. Options: Have all the gals air guitar, then all the guys. Give away a prize for the best air guitarist. Suggested Songs: "Bad To The Bone;" "Thunderstruck" Alligator Set Up: Start the song and demonstrate this dance with some volunteers from the crowd. Have everyone on the dance floor participate (it is cool with everyone in a circle). Clap twice, slap your thighs twice. Kneel down and slap the floor twice. Lay on your stomach and slap the floor twice. Lay on your right side and lift your left leg twice. Roll to your back and lift both legs twice. Roll to your left side and lift your right leg twice. Lay on your stomach and slap the floor twice. Kneel and slap the floor twice. Stand and slap your thighs twice. Clap twice. Do this three or four times during the song. Options: Create your own favorite movements. Suggested Songs: "Takin’ Care Of Business" Anniversary Dance Set Up: Explain that the next dance is a special tribute to all of the married couples, and that you need all of the married couples on the dance floor. Start the song once all married people are out there and twenty seconds into the song, announce that you need anyone who has been married less than ten hours to leave the dance floor. Then, slowly eliminate couples by asking people to leave the dance floor who have been married less than one year, five, ten, twenty years, etc. By the end of the song, you should have just one couple left. Introduce them to the crowd and ask for a round of applause. Then, bring the bride and groom out to meet them and ask the couple to give the newlyweds some good marital advice. Suggested Songs: “Through the Years,” “Unchained Melody,” “Wonderful Tonight,” or any good slow song. Balloon Dance *PROP Set Up: Provide a balloon for each couple. Instruct them to place a balloon between each other’s stomach or chest. Announce that when you say side-to-side and they must turn without dropping the balloon or using their hands. Then announce back-to-back, front-to-front, etc. When you drop the balloon, you’re out of the game. The last couple wins. Options: Give some people bigger balloons and others smaller balloons. Have a balloon relay race by passing a long balloon between knees. Suggested Songs: Any song Beach Ball Dance *PROP Set Up: Provide a blow up beach ball for the crowd. Throw it out and tell them to keep it in the air (like hot-potato) until you stop the music. Offer a prize for the person holding the ball when music stops. Options: Use another object like a big blow up microphone, balloon, etc. Suggested Songs: "Surfing USA;" "Beach Boys Medley"

Icebreaker How-To List

Bird (Chicken) Dance *PROP Set Up: Use either the Tribute or the Toast to set it up. First, tell the guests to raise their hands and form "beaks". Make them chirp 4 times. Second, have them form "wings", and flap 4 times. Third, have them "shake their tail feathers" 4 times (really squat down when demonstrating this section). Finally, have them clap their hands 4 times. Announce that here is the Bird (Chicken) Dance, and help them get started. After four times of doing the actions, have people "swing a partner" or "walk in a circle". Options: You can also set it up by just telling everyone on the dance floor to just raise their hands and... (start with the first step). Give out some foam hands for the crowd to use as a new twist. Suggested Songs: "Bird (Chicken) Dance"

Bird, The Set Up: Simply start the song and demonstrate through the first few times. (if people requested it or already know it, just play the song and run out and join in).

2. Shake your left hand to the left (palm down) twice.

3. Hitch hike to the right twice.

13. Immediately begin again. Suggested Songs: "Bird” -Time Blame It On the Boogie Set Up: Walk out on the dance floor just before you start the song and say “Let me see your Sunshine!” while showing the first move. Then show the other moves and simply play the song and join the guests on the dance floor. Dance and encourage the guests to do any dance moves (moonwalk, the chicken, etc) and then lead them in these moves each time during the chorus:

1. Sunshine –bring your hands, fingers extended, up above your head and down to your sides.

2. Moonlight –turn and stick your right hip out and rub your right butt-cheek with your right hand.

3. Good Times –boogie back and forth with your elbows bent and arms lazily to your sides (like the Twist).

Icebreaker How-To List

Blindfold “Garter Removal” *PROP Set Up: Use discretion with implying that marriage includes obstacles; some couples may be going through difficulties or may be divorced and this icebreaker may be offensive.

1. Call up the bride and groom for the garter removal. 2. Then call up all of the married men. Tell them that we know marriage is a blissful challenge and we need the support of all those who are experienced in marriage. 3. Let them know that they are going to have an opportunity to teach the groom how to maneuver through the obstacles of marriage. 4. Line the men up facing away from the bride in a straight line. 5. Blindfold the groom while saying that we usually go into marriage in love, but a bit blinded to the obstacles of love....but it’s OK because with the help of these experienced married men, you’re about to learn how to work through any of those issues. 6. Quietly have the men stagger themselves a bit to make it more challenging for the groom. 7. The groom then has to crawl through the legs of the men to get to his wife. Feel free to encourage them to bump him around a bit on the way through.... to make it a bit more challenging. 8. When the groom reaches the bride comment on how he has now learned how to weave through the obstacles of marriage to successfully meet his bride. Now they can face anything. 9. Finish with garter removal and toss.

Suggested Songs: "Theme From Mission: Impossible;" "Love And Marriage" Blindfold “Finding” Game *PROP Set Up: Select 3 couples from the audience and blindfold one from each pair. Have the un-blindfolded person hide an object (candy cane) on their body. Have the blindfolded partner find the object. Options: Use different objects for different parties. Candy cane for Christmas season, etc. Suggested Songs: "Theme From Mission: Impossible;" "Oh Yeah" Blindfold “Group” *PROP Set Up: Select 5 people (i.e. groom and groomsmen) and blindfold each one. Have each demonstrate the same movements, such as "touch your toes", "do jumping jacks", and "pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time". During the movements, un-blindfold all but one person (groom). Then have the blindfolded person shout out “Complete Music” (or anything appropriate for the group; i.e. “Honeymoon”, “Mr. & Mrs. Jones”, or “Jamaica!”) as loud as he can - he should be the only one to shout! Suggested Songs: No music is needed unless you want to during movements only. Blindfold “Groom” *PROP Set Up: Tell the bride and groomsmen what you are doing first. Have the groomsmen place several chairs on the dance floor while you are explaining this to the groom. Blindfold the groom and tell him that he will be learning to listen and take instructions from his new bride - get used to it! After you have the blindfold on and while you are explaining the instructions to the groom, have the groomsmen quietly remove the chairs from the dance floor. Spin the groom around three times (have the crowd count) and have the bride talk the groom through the obstacles. As soon as he reaches the other side, remove the blindfold. Suggested Songs: "Theme From Mission: Impossible;" "Oh Yeah"

Icebreaker How-To List

Blindfold “Know Your Bride/Groom” *PROP Set Up: Have the bride and bridesmaids sit on chairs in front of the groom. Tell the groom that it’s his job to identify his bride. Blindfold him and let the ladies shuffle spots-to throw the groom off. Now have the bestman guide the groom to the ankle of the first lady - is this his bride? Continue until he knows his bride. Options: Reverse the roll and have the bride feel cheeks (whichever, but use discretion). Suggested Songs: "Theme From Mission: Impossible;" "Oh Yeah" Brown Bag Dance *PROP Permission First: Before you perform this Ice Breaker, check with bride to confirm this Ice Breaker will be okay. We want to laugh with people, not at them. It is very important not to embarrass or offend people. Set up: Get the groomsmen together without the groom present. Explain that you need their help to have a little fun with the groom. Tell them that you are going to be setting up a dance contest and all of them are going to wear a brown grocery bag on their head. However, as soon as the music starts they will quickly and very quietly take their bags off, leaving only the groom dancing. Ask the groomsmen to become excited and competitive (“I’m the best dancer, etc”) as they come out to the dance floor.

1. Announce that you’ve been informed of a little competition among the groomsmen and groom. And you’ve been instructed to help settle it. They have an argument about which of them is the best dancer.

2. Bring all the groomsmen and the groom out onto the dance floor. Announce that you’re going to settle their dispute with the crowds applause.

3. Announce that you have numbers on the outside of all the brown bags and that is their contestant number –they must remember it! When you call out their number they are to leave the dance floor.

4. Have everyone put the brown bags on their head and tell them it is very important that you do not remove the bag unless your number is called.

5. Start the music and get the crowd into it by encouraging clapping, hooping and hollering, etc. As soon as you can begin removing the brown bags from all the groomsmen, leaving only the groom dancing on the floor by himself.

6. Call out numbers to have people leave the dance floor, making the groom believe there are others out there with him. As you call out numbers, announce that you only have a few guys left, “let’s see what you’ve got”. Encourage the groom to dance even more –build excitement.

7. After about a half the song, announce, “number 361, please leave the dance floor”, this will make the groom aware that something is wrong (since the bags are numbered 1-6). After he removes his brown bag, have everyone give our best dancer a round of applause.

Suggested songs: “I’m Too Sexy;” “Getting Jiggy Wit It;” “U Can’t Touch This;” or any other fast song. Hints: If the groom is sensitive, not very outgoing, or you feel might get offended, use the best man, another groomsman, or another crazy guest as the unaware victim. Bunny Hop Set Up: After any song, simply say "turn to your right and grab onto the first pair of hips you see, here is the Bunny Hop". The Bunny Hop goes like this: Right Foot - Right Foot, Left Foot - Left Foot, Hop Forward, Hop Backward, and Hop - Hop - Hop. You may need to announce the correct directions during the first two or three verses. Options: Grab the wireless mic (if available) and join the line. Part way through the song announce: "Turn it around, let the last person lead". Have them leave the dance floor and go around the room. Suggested Songs: "Bunny Hop"

3-21

Icebreaker How-To List Cha-Cha Slide Set Up: (This is very similar to Electric Slide) Tell the guest you want to see as many lines of people as you can fit on the dance floor. Facing one direction, they must spread out so that there’s about two feet between each one of them. Start the song and join in listening to the lyrics to set up each move. (If people requested it or already know it, just play the song and run out and join in). Options: Set this up directly after the Electric Slide for a “rapid-fire” line dance medley. Suggested Songs: "Cha-Cha Slide" Circle Salute Set up: At the end of the wedding reception, just before the last song, have all the guests come onto the dance floor. Have them gather around the bride and groom or anniversary couple.

Have the guests repeat after you:

“(Bride and groom first names),” (crowd repeats)

“Thank you for letting us be a part of your special day,”

“Always remember that no matter where you go,”

“No matter what you do,”

“You will always have family and friends who love you,”

“And we all wish you—a wonderful life together.”

Have all the guests close in on the bride and groom for a group hug, then play an appropriate slow song to finish the dance. This is usually the bride and groom spotlight song again. Suggested Songs: Bride and groom spotlight song, or any other slow song Circle Two Dance Set Up: Immediately following the Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance, or any "Circle Dance", tell everyone to stay right where they are. Have the men take two steps forward. This will create two circles (men in the center and women on the outside). Have any people that were in the center of the circle (during the previous Ice Breaker, i.e. Bride & Groom) join their appropriate circle. Explain that when you start the music the men will circle to the right, and the women will circle to the left. When you say "swing a partner", have them grab a partner and swing. When you say "Two Circles," have them resume circling - men to the right and women to the left. Announce swing a partner and two circles frequently. Encourage clapping, shouting, and a whoopin' & a hollerin' throughout the song. Options: You can use other songs instead, such as: a polka, or a faster country song. Another way to remember that the men circle to the right is that "the men go right because the men are always right" (use some discretion if you decide to announce this more than once during the circle two, as this tends to upset some women). [Note: Instead of announcing "swing a partner" and "two circles" you can blow a whistle.] Suggested Songs: "Circle Two" Coin Drop Game *PROP Set Up: Announce that you are having a contest. Line up participants in a single file line. Place a coin (nickel or quarter) between your two elbows and walk forward five steps. Drop the coin from a standing position into a cup. Everyone that makes it in keeps playing. The person with the most successful drops wins. Options: Put the coin between your butt cheeks (use your discretion with this option). Suggested Songs: "Walk This Way;” "Da’Butt;" "Theme From Mission: Impossible;" "Oh Yeah"

Icebreaker How-To List

Complete Dance Party Set Up: Either after the Dollar Dance or after the classics and formality items are out of the way, make an announcement that we are turning this reception into a Complete Dance Party. If you can, lower the lights in the reception hall farther down and use more of your dance lighting effects. Then start playing the mixes, or if you’re able, do some of your own custom mixes. The idea is to create a club feel and to make the reception a place where the younger guests, who typically are the Bride and Grooms friends, will want to stay instead of looking for the right time to leave to go to the “real” party.

1. At the beginning of the reception after you announce the Bride and Groom into the room, announce a quick overview of what is going to take place that night. Let them know that there will be “Club Smith” (Couple’s Last Name) later in the evening; really build the anticipation and excitement.

2. When going table-to-table for requests, make sure to mention to the tables with younger guests, or guests that request upbeat fun up-to-date music, that there will be a point in the reception after the older music is played, that there will be upbeat club mix styles played.

3. With approximately 1.5 hours left in the reception make a distinct difference in the style of the reception. If possible turn down the lights further in the reception venue and utilize your dance lighting effects more.

4. Make an announcement like: “It’s Club Smith time! (Couple’s last name). Let’s get the party started!” Then start playing the new mixes that best matches the guests tastes. For those of you that have been trained to beat mix, play approx. 90 seconds of each song and beat mix into the next song.. Remember, this is for the A.D.D. group where more than a 3 minutes song is too long.

5. After playing 12-15 minutes of each mix, play a relevant slow song to give people a breather. Then, go back to the Dance Party mix and keep them going.

Options: This can also be used as a stand-alone icebreaker earlier in the event. Suggested Songs: Dance Party Mix or your custom mashup/mix Complete “No” Game *PROP Set Up: Give each guest 3 Complete stickers that they will wear VISIBLY on their shirts. Once everyone is in the room, explain the rules. The object of the game is to get someone whom YOU are talking to or overhear to say the word “NO.” Do not confuse “NO” with the other word “KNOW.” There should be time-ins and time-outs to allow guests to visit without having to watch their every word. If the person slips up and says “NO” during the (time-in), you get to collect all of their stickers!! When you announce says (time-out) the game is suspended until further notice. The objective is to collect the most stickers. Suggested Songs: No music is needed. This is an good activity to start during background music. Complete Music Shuffle Set Up: Line up people double file facing each other (men on one side and women on the other). Demonstrate the moves for all the guests one time through, and then start the music.

1. Fan your right foot twice. (A fan is done by pointing your toes outward). (2 count)

2. Step right, behind, right, clap. (4 count)

3. Step left, behind, left, clap. (4 count)

4. Fan, Fan (2 count)

5. Step forward, step forward, turn backward, step backward-clap (4 count). You should pass to the right of the person across from you.

This should put you across from your starting point. Repeat this throughout the song. Options: Encourage whooping and hollering when you turn backward (step 5). Suggested Songs: "Pickup Man" 3-23

Page 9: CM Employee Manual (National) 2013 - completemvp.com How-To.pdf · Blame It On The Boogie “Blame It On The Boogie” Blind Fold Games * “Theme From Mission: Impossible” or “Oh

Icebreaker How-To List

Conga Line *PROP Set Up: Start the song and go out on the dance floor and start the "follow-the-leader" line. Or, if your system has a wireless microphone, grab the wireless microphone or give it to one of the guests and start the "follow-the-leader" line dance. Really encourage involvement from all the guests. Have them leave the dance floor and go around the room. Options: Use the maracas and leis to make a creative conga line. (Have a contest with two or three lines, the most creative line wins.) Part way through the song have the last person in the line be the leader, simply announce to turn around and let the last person lead now. Suggested Songs: "Conga;" "Hot Hot Hot" Cool Walk Sexy Walk *PROP Set Up: Simply have cool guys strut their stuff in front of the system, coolest wins. Sexy walk is for the ladies to strut their stuff. Options: Announce each contestant as they come across the floor, make up stage names for each. Or simply tell what each is wearing-style show fashion. Don’t forget the dark sunglasses. Suggested Songs: "I’m Too Sexy;" "Here Comes The Hotstepper;" " Walk This Way" Cotton Eyed Joe Set Up: If you are in an area that does this dance, simply announce it and the guest will know how to do it. Sometimes the guests will call this "The Bull Shit Song", and they may sing along so use your discretion at some events. Do not announce it as “The Bull Shit Song”! Options: Play the regular version first, then mix into the fast version, then finish up with the techno. Suggested Songs: "Cotton Eyed Joe" (Slow, Fast, or Techno Versions) Crank That (aka Superman or Soulja Boy) Set Up: Have the guests line up, facing the DJ booth, just like for the Electric Slide. The moves to this song are more complex than that of the Electric Slide or Cupid Shuffle, so the timing and maneuvers will take quite a bit of practice and repetition. Here are the basic steps.

1. Jump and land with your legs crossed, then jump again and land back in the original position.

2. Immediately lift up your right foot and bring your left hand behind to touch your foot.

3. Throw your right hand straight out, then throw your left hand straight out. Throw your right hand straight out again, bend your knees, dip, and snap your fingers as you do down.

4. Cross your right foot in front and touch the floor with it. Bring it back to the original position and do a knee slap.

5. Immediately do the “superman” by throwing your hands up to the left, leaning forward, and bringing your hands back like you are flying. “Land” by dipping down.

6. Throw both hands out to the right and hop back to the left four times.

7. Throw both hands out to the left and hop back to the right four times.

8. Do the previous two moves once more each.

9. Then start over, reversing the moves from the right to the left.

Suggested Songs: "Crank That”

3-24

Icebreaker How-To List

Cupid Shuffle Set Up: Have the guests line up, facing the DJ booth, just like for the Electric Slide. During the song, follow the four simple steps. Each step is done to a four-count, making this dance very easy to learn quickly.

1. Take four steps to the right. (Step sideways with your right foot and then follow with your left.)

2. Take four steps to the left. (Step sideways with your left foot and then follow with your right.)

3. Kick you right foot out, tap your heel, and bring it back (all in one count). Kick your left foot out, tap your heel, and bring it back. Do this with each foot once again.

4. Walk it out by moving slowly to the left one-quarter turn. After four counts, start back at step one.

Options: When stepping to the right or left, step three times like normal, then take an exaggerated step and slide your other foot together. Suggested Songs: "Cupid Shuffle” Crowd Choice Of Song Set Up: Pick out two sure fire songs. Announce that the crowd will choose the next song. Hold up two cartridges/CD’s and ask them for choice A or choice B (wait for applause each time). Announce that "they picked the song". Fire them up and get them dancing. You can play the second choice song following the winning song. Options: Use the requests you have taken or use the good standard song list for two great songs. Suggested Songs: Any two great party songs Da’ Butt Set Up: Announce that you are having a Da’ Butt contest. Play the song. Announce for everyone dancing to show you their butts (during the chorus). Select several finalists and have a winner picked by the crowds applause. Options: Use your discretion with this activity. It should only be used at college or adult functions. Suggested Songs: "Da’ Butt;" "Baby Got Back" Dance Craze Set Up: This icebreaker can be set up using the wedding party, or in advance by asking a sponsor or the bride and groom to give you the names of 5-6 people (or couples) who would be enthusiastic participants, or can be set up using “Pass the Buck”, utilizing the people who end up holding the buck at the end of the game. You’ll need as many chairs in a line on the dance floor as there are participants. Being prepared ahead of time will make this icebreaker flow much more smoothly. Have the CDs laid out in the order that you will use them in, as there will not be much time between each dance to cue your music. Introducing each participant by asking their name and what they do or how they know the bride and groom is a good way to loosen them up, and will give you the opportunity to feel out how each one will react to a specific dance assignment. Each participant will be assigned a dance personality and/or a type of dance to enact and, once the music starts, they will dance for 20-30 seconds. As each person finishes their dance ask for a round of applause, have them sit back in their chair on the dance floor, and cue up your next song. At the end you can have a panel of judges determine a winner (the head table or homecoming/prom court works) or you can have the winner chosen by round of applause. At this point you may hand out a prize to the winner or simply crown the most creative/enthusiastic individual the Dance Craze Champion for the evening. You will only use 5 or 6 of the styles below during this icebreaker, or can create your own unique Dance Craze.

Icebreaker How-To List

Flying Dutchman Set Up: Play a polka just before the Flying Dutchman. Half way through that polka, announce that: "The Flying Dutchman is coming up next, be thinking of your partners." When you are starting the Flying Dutchman, announce: "Here is the Flying Dutchman, two guys and and a gal, or two gals and a guy." Encourage everyone to get involved and join in a group of three. The song has a slow verse, then a fast chorus (no lyrics). During the slow part the group will: skip-hop-hop, skip-hop-hop, etc. Then when the fast part starts instruct them to swing a partner ( or "doe-see-doe"). During the swinging part really, really encouraging the group to hoop and holler, scream, yell and/or whistle. Options: Part way through the song, (during the slow part) announce: "Are you getting tired?"...."Well good (assume they are not - even though they are), because this particular version of the Flying Dutchman has 29 verses. But if you really whoop and holler during the next swing part, I may cut it a little short. " If you cut it short, do so after the swinging part, and announce: "give yourselves a big round of applause". Suggested Songs: "Flying Dutchman" Special Note: The Complete Music CD library version is very short, during a pause between the fast part and the slow part skip back to the beginning of the song on your CD player. This can be done two or three times to lengthen the Ice Breaker. (If you play it several times you may need to cut it short during the second or third time. The song also seems to stop after some of the swing verses, but if only pauses for a second. This is a great time to announce the "tired" statement.) FYI Game Preparation: You will need to gather information during the client pre-call or before the dance. Use the questions listed below, or create some of your own (with the help of the client) to create a special and unique experience. Set Up: The FYI icebreaker is a series of statements that reflect the lives of the bride and groom at a wedding reception. Each fact shared is to be done quickly and efficiently and used only to enhance the event, not to replace anything. (This is great since many times guests do not even know much about the person they came to see get married.) During the pre-call gather the information listed below to create an informational sheet to use throughout the reception. This information can be used as trivia when introducing the bride and groom, to release tables, as interesting facts just before an Icebreaker, before or after spotlight dances, or just before playing a new set of music. The Questions: Ask the following questions of BOTH the bride and the groom (18 questions in all).

1. Parents Names? 2. Where did you grow up? 3. What High School did you attend? 4. What College (if applicable)? 5. Instruments played or still playing? How Long? 6. Sports played? How Long? 7. Favorite childhood memory? 8. At what age did you start thinking about getting married? 9. Favorite childhood activity or game? 10. Other interesting facts?

Ask the following questions of the COUPLE.

1. How long have you known each other? 2. How long have you been dating? 3. How long have you been engaged? 4. Where did you meet? 5. How did he propose? 6. Where is your honeymoon? 7. Are you moving after the wedding (new house or apartment or city)? 8. Other interesting facts?

Suggested Songs: No music is needed.

Happy Birthday Set up: As an option to playing the song Happy Birthday, or even having the guests simply sing Happy Birthday, try this for a change of pace. Have the birthday “boy” or “girl “come out on the dance floor. Divide the crowd into three equal groups; you can do this by tables. Have group one sing Happy Birthday at one-half time. Have the second group sing it regular time. And instruct the third group to sing twice as fast. Have the crowd give the birthday “boy” or “girl” a round of applause. Options: Use the show enhancer “Birthday” tracks instead of singing. Suggested Songs: “Birthday, ” by The Beatles; “Happy Birthday,” Traditional; Crowd Sing-A-Long Happy Couple Dance Set Up: Select a romantic slow song, a request, and announce that this is a happy couple dance if you are a happy couple, grab your partner and come out on the dance floor. Options: Ask for people who have been married less than 5 years, 10 years, etc. Set the dance up around them as a tribute to marriage. Suggested Songs: Any slow song Hava Nagila Ring Dance Set Up: This is a traditional Jewish Icebreaker and is done mostly at Bar/Bat Mitzvahs. Announce the song and allow guests to come to the dance floor and form a huge circle. Most guests will know to place their arms on the shoulders of the person next to them in the circle. Often the Bar/Bat Mitzvah honoree will be raised on a chair during the song. Sometimes another family member will be as well. Suggested Songs: "Hava Nagila" Hokey Pokey *PROP Set Up: Use either the Tribute or the Toast to set it up. Then simply play the song. Options: Use foam hands for added fun and involvement. You can pick someone (i.e. the groom) during specific versus. Suggested Songs: "Hokey Pokey" Note: IT’S VERY IMPORTANT that you never announce the name of the song. This is “icebreaker suicide”. Karaoke Sing-A-Long *PROP Set Up: Ask the Bride and Groom or Hosts who is the most likely to do Karaoke. Announce that this is available or that there will be a Karaoke contest. Note that guests are not limited to the songs that we may have lyrics to; they can sing to any song we have in our library, providing that they know the words to it. Be careful not to have too much of this (2 or 3 songs - then back to dancing). Some people do not sing as well as they think they do and people can get bored rather quickly. Options: Use some blow up microphones for added involvement and fun. Suggested Songs: Any song requested by the guest, where he or she knows the words or where the lyrics are available.

(Slow) Ladies Choice Set Up: Select a romantic slow song, a request, and announce that this is a slow ladies choice. Ladies need to ask any man of their choice to dance. Options: Have a "swap a spouse/girlfriend" version (use your discretion). Suggested Songs: Any slow song Last Man Standing Set Up: You will need to make up several questions about the bride and groom (or company, organization, or school), along with one correct and three incorrect answers. Information from the couple biography sheet can be used, but you will need to come up with some additional questions that have more difficult answers (such as the exact date that a couple was engaged). You must prepare diligently for this icebreaker to be successful. Have everyone in the room stand up. Designate the four corners of the room as A, B, C, and D. Explain that when you ask a question, you will give four answers. The guests will then answer the question by going to the corner with the answer that they believe is correct. After each question, have the guests that answered incorrectly sit down. Keep asking questions until you have a winner. As a prize, you can let the winner come to the front of the line for the dollar dance or buffet line. Suggested Songs: No song is needed. Limbo *PROP Set Up: Select two people to hold the limbo bar or cord and announce and encourage people to line up behind the limbo bar (have the line come toward the system). Have the holders slowly lower the bar after all the "limbo-ers" have gone under once. Bring all the single men to the dance floor. Announce: “now that the bride is no longer available, we want all the single men to show their sorrow through song. When I start the song, these gentlemen will serenade the bride.” Start the music and encourage these gentlemen to sing as loud as possible. When they get to the chorus, have all the men get down on one knee. After the first chorus, have the guests give the single men a round of applause. Suggested Song: “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” Love Theme Set Up: The Love Theme is done by finding outgoing tables of guests. Set one of those tables up to sing a song with the word “love” in the title (or as a part of the lyrics). Have the table start to clink glasses then have the bride and groom kiss. Then announce that, from now on, in order for the bride and groom to kiss, an entire table will need to stand and sing a song with the word “love” in the title. Announce that you have a table ready to demonstrate. Have the table sing their song, then have the bride and groom kiss. Use your discretion if you want to allow small groups of people to sing. Options: Another way to announce this “different way” of encouraging the bride and groom to kiss is like this: “Ladies and gentlemen, let’s try something different; we are going to make you work a bit. In order for the bride and groom to kiss this evening (or from now on), a group of at least three people must sing a song with the word love in it. We have a group ready to go right now.” Suggested Songs: No music is needed Macarena *PROP Set Up: Simply start the song and demonstrate through the first few times. Icebreaker How-To List Macho Man *PROP Set Up: After you have the guests on the dance floor (maybe after the stroll), have the girls roll up the pant legs of the guys, pull their socks down, loosen up their tie, unbutton their shirt, and roll up their sleeves. Then dance with their Macho Man or Sharp Dressed Man. Options: Add the Village People props for more fun and involvement (only if Macho Man). Use the dark sunglasses & blow up guitar for the Sharp Dressed Man. Suggested Songs: "Macho Man;" "Sharp Dressed Man" Mission Impossible *PROP Set Up: If the groom is not shy this activity can be lots of fun. Give the groom a pair of dark sunglasses. Explain that just before the garter toss you will be looking for the groom (have the bride sitting and all the single guys on the dance floor). Then start the song and have him come in from the back of the dance hall. Draw attention to him as he works his way to his bride. Option: Have the groom duck under tables, spy between guests, do a somersault, whatever he can do to ham-it-up for this activity. Suggested Songs: "Theme From Mission: Impossible" Move It Like This Set Up: This is a quite simple follow-the-leader dance where during the chorus certain movements are followed. Find a fun and crazy guest to help lead. Quickly have the guests number off by 1 or 2, 1 or 2, etc. Then simply explain to do fun and creative follow-the-leader moves until the chorus starts. During the chorus have the 1’s and 2’s turn opposite of one another and do the following:

During Chorus “I can move it like this” bend foreword and shimmy. During Chorus “I can shake it like that” bend backward and shimmy. Repeat two more times (for a total of 3 times). Bump hips 4 times. Turn to face the front of the line and follow-the-leader.

Option: Instead of numbering off, you can form two lines and have them merge into one, every other person. Suggested Songs: "Move It Like This" Musical Chairs *PROP Set Up: Have everyone bring a chair to the dance floor. Place them in a circle facing outward. Remove one chair (or more, depending upon group size). Explain that the crowd will move in a clockwise fashion until the music stops. When the music stops everyone must scramble to sit down. Keep removing chairs until there is only one winner. Options: Have the chairs on opposite sides of the dance floor and have the dancing crowd run to a chair (men on one side, women on the other). Use this activity to give away the centerpieces at a company party. Note: This is very effective when done at receptions where lots of kids are running around prior to the dance starting (when cake is being served). Suggested Songs: “Bye, Bye, Bye;” or any song.

Ask the question and have a team captain write the answer down. Alternate by having one team reveal their answer; announce it. Ask the bride and groom what the correct answer is; announce it. Then reveal the second team’s answer and award 1-point to each team for each correct answer. You can have an usher or guest help you keep track of the score. Note: You do not need to ask all the questions; 6-8 may be adequate. For a more personalized game, ask some questions of the bride and groom for a more unique game experience. The Questions:

1. Turn your back to the audience (you need to face the same direction before you begin).

2. Roll your right hand twice to the left, chin high.

3. Roll your left hand twice to the right, chin high.

4. Roll your right hand twice to the left, knee high.

5. Roll your left hand twice to the right, knee high.

6. Jab twice with your right hand to the left, chin high.

7. Jab twice with your left hand to the right, chin high.

8. Jab twice with your right hand to the left, knee high.

9. Jab twice with your left hand to the right, knee high.

10. Repeat steps 6-9, jabbing once each time instead of twice.

11. Power punch from low to high with your right hand while turning to the left and beginning again. Suggested Songs: "Stayin’ Alive,” by N-Trance; “Sumpin’ New,” by Coolio; “Just Got Paid,” by N’Sync Shoe Auction Set Up: The Shoe Auction is done at weddings in certain regions. It is typically done after the bouquet and garter toss, later in the dance. A designated “auctioneer” will raise money for the bride and groom while the groomsmen gather the donations. It is a collective auction, meaning that rather than the highest bidder winning, they will collect bills from $1 to $100 until the “bidding” stops. The last person who donated any money wins the bride’s shoe. They do not keep the shoe; it is only a symbolic prize. You can give away a free dance with the bride or groom as an alternate prize. Note: It is very important that the DJ does not act as the auctioneer. It is never in your best interest to handle or facilitate the couple’s money. Suggested Songs: No music is needed.

Icebreaker How-To List Shoe Dance *PROP Set Up: Have all the ladies take off one shoe and put it in the middle of the dance floor. Dim the lights and announce for all the guys to grab one shoe from the dance floor and find its owner. Now they have a dance partner for the shoe dance. Note: Afterward announce "next time you guys will know what shoes your date is wearing!" Another option (use discretion) is to have one lady bring out a man’s shoe –in the right situation, this is a good laugh. Suggested Songs: Any slow song Shout *PROP Set Up: Simply play the song when you have a 60’s set of music playing. The crowd should raise both hands up when the song says ”shout”. Encourage people to squat or lay down when the music says “a little bit softer now”. Then get them excited when it says “a little bit louder now”. Options: Get the crowd involved with the piano music and shouting “yeah, yeah” during the appropriate parts. Pass out some foam hands for an exaggerated ‘shout’. Suggested Songs: "Shout” Snowball Dance *PROP Set Up: Immediately following the wedding party dance (spotlight songs) or after getting a "core group" on the dance floor; tell the group on the dance floor that this will be the Snowball Dance. Explain that when you say "snowball", they are to go and get a new partner, someone not dancing and bring them out on the dance floor. Announce "snowball" three or four times during the snowball song (based upon the number of guests dancing or the length of song(s)). Do not announce "snowball" too quickly, allow guests to find their partner and return to the dance floor. Options: Add the leis for an interactive snowball. Have the crowd grab a lei from the DJ table, run into the crowd and put it on their next partner. Another option is to use Celebrity sound bites from the SHOW EHANCER CD to create “CELEBRITY SNOWBALL” —simply play a sound bite instead of saying “snowball”. Suggested Songs: "Swing The Mood;" "Celebration;" a couple of fast 50's songs, county songs, etc. (Use one of the popular requests from the crowd.) Note: The Snowball Dance can be done more than once in an evening and whenever you have a group of people on the dance floor. Sports Theme (Upbeat) Introduction Set Up: On the pre-call get the names and pronunciation of all the bridesmaids and groomsmen, where they are from, and relation to the bride or groom.

1. As the wedding party enters the building inform them that you will be introducing them as soon as the bride and groom arrive. Double check names so that you have them correct.

2. Once the bride and groom arrive, line up the wedding party in reverse order for example: bridesmaid, groomsman, bridesmaid, groomsman, maid of honor, best man, bride and groom.

3. Instruct them that you will bring them into the room as individuals, just like a basketball team lineup, except for the bride and groom —always bring them in as a couple.

4. Instruct them to jog out on the dance floor with a lot of energy. Have the first person entering the room stop in the middle of the dance floor and face the crowd.

5. Then explain that the next person in line jogs up to first person gives high fives, and then stand side-by-side facing the crowd.

6. Tell the rest of the wedding party to do the same thing.

7. Explain to the bride and groom there will be a pause before they enter the room and that they will be coming in together.

Sports Theme (Upbeat) Introduction (continued)

8. Go to the Complete Music system and start the song. Then after a few seconds, lower the music volume and announce (over the top of the music), with a lot of hype: “ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the fabulous Holiday Inn for tonight’s wedding reception. At this time, I would like to introduce your Smith (grooms last name) wedding party. Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for our first bridesmaid, the sister of the bride, all the way from Denver, Colorado, Sally Miller.”

9. Announce the rest of the wedding party in the same fashion. As soon as the entire wedding party has been introduced, announce: “ladies and gentlemen, please rise at this time and welcome with your applause, the couple you’ve all been waiting for, Mr & Mrs. John Smith.”

Suggested Songs: "Sirius;" "Rock and Roll Part 2;" “Son of Jock Jams;” “E,” (instrumental version of “Without Me”); “Start The Commotion;” College Fight Song; “Bad To The Bone;” “Another One Bites The Dust;” “Are You Gonna Go My Way;” “It Takes Two;” “Celebration;” “I Got You (I Feel Good);” “Right Now;” “Crazy Train;” “Ladies Night,” for bridesmaids; “I’m Too Sexy’” for groomsmen; “Peanuts Theme;” “White Wedding;” “Danger Zone;” “We Go Together,” from Grease; “Bad Boys,” from Cops; “Axel F,” from Beverly Hills Cop; “Children;” “All You Need Is Love;” and “Get Ready For This” Hints: This introduction will get the crowd into the reception from the very start. When you’re lining up the wedding party, try to get the hyped before they come in. Make sure to clear it with the bride and groom on the pre-call. Obviously, this can only work if most of the guests arrive before the wedding party. Options: Use this as a way to draw attention to homecoming royalty, company party committee, etc. Get the names, height, possibly age of the people to be introduced and use it for added intensity to the introduction. Stripper (Bouquet Toss) Set Up: Use this as a way to draw attention to someone (i.e. the Bride during the garter toss, a birthday person, or just someone from the crowd). Note: Use discretion with the “Stripper”. Suggested Songs: "Stripper," (use discretion); "Oh Yeah;" “Bad To The Bone” Stroll Set Up: Ask the guests to form two lines (one of girls and one of guys - facing each other). Have the lines "grapevine" (step right, behind, right, clap - then reverse it). Then encourage the end couple to dance (uniquely) through the center of the lines to the other end. The next couple does the same and so on. Options: Any upbeat song will work for this activity - have some fun! Suggested Songs: "The Stroll;" "Hang On Sloopy;" "Mustang Sally" Stuff It T-Shirt *PROP Preparation: You will need to prepare by having at least 2 Stuff-It (over-sized) T-Shirts and about 100 “Dart-Sized” balloons. Set Up: Pick two people out of the audience to be contestants and tell them to gather five people to be on their team. Have the contestants put on the Stuff It T-Shirt and give each team a large handful of balloons. Announce that when you start the music their team needs to begin blowing up balloons and stuffing into their contestant’s shirt. Announce that when you stop the music the contest is over and you will remove the balloons one at a time to count who stuffed the most. The balloons, then become floor balloons for decorations. Options: You can use a stick pin to pop the balloons as you count them. Be careful not to stick the contestant! Suggested Songs: Any upbeat song

Surf Dancing *PROP Set Up: Have several couples demonstrate before you start the song. The couples dance until the drum beat section. At that time the men lay down on their stomach and slap the floor to the beat of the drums. The ladies jump onto the backs of the men and pretend to surf. Make a note to announce for the ladies to remove their heels first! Options: Put the leis on the ladies before you start. Suggested Songs: "Wipe Out," by Safaris; "Wipe Out,” by Fat Boys and Beach Boys Survivor Set Up: Have the contestants bring a chair to the dance floor. Place them in straight line. Explain that you will name one item and the contestants must go find that item and bring it back to their chair. Immediately after you name the item, take one chair off of the dance floor so that the last person back won’t have a chair and is eliminated (just like musical chairs). Come up with any tasteful items to use in this scavenger hunt, including credit cards, socks, shoes, ties, earrings, piece of gum, etc (the possibilities are endless). Make sure that the contestants give the items back to the person they got the items from right away. Continue until there is one “survivor.” Options: Use Hawaiian leis to keep track of who is still in the game. Let the person eliminated come up with the next item. Suggested Songs: “I Will Survive;” “Survivor;” “Race Is On” Twist Contest Set Up: Announce that you will be having a twist contest. Start the song and narrow the couples down to three or four couples. (Have some guests not dancing help you pick some finalists.) Have a finalist twist-off and let the audience choose the winner by their applause. Suggested Songs: "Twist;" "Yo Twist” Village People *PROP Set Up: Gather five active or outgoing people to participate (groomsmen, ushers, company party committee, a loud table). Secretly pass out the Village People props to these five people. Have them enter the dance floor area as you introduce the Village People. Encourage them to interact with the crowd and act out a choreographed dance to the song. Note: You can use ladies for parts of the Village People, but it is best with five men. Option: Do remedial disco with the props. As the DJ, get in front of the Village People with your own hat, or the afro wig and do some choreographed moves (follow the leader stuff). Suggested Songs: "Y.M.C.A.;" "Macho Man" Walk Of Life Set Up: Start the song and go out on the dance floor and start the "follow-the-leader" line. Or, if your system has a wireless microphone, grab the wireless microphone or give it to one of the guests and start the "follow-the-leader" line dance. Really encourage involvement from all the guests. Have them leave the dance floor and go around the room. Suggested Songs: "Walk Of Life"

Wedding Feud Preparation: You may choose to prepare these questions on 3x5 cards prior the reception and will need paper and pen for two teams and score keeping. Set Up: Create two teams using the Team Men (groom and groomsmen) versus Team Women (bride and bridesmaids) In front of the head table, use an usher as a “buzzer” by having them stand hands out in front of the table (the first player to slap his/her hand first his the “buzzer” and gets to answer first.) Have the bride and groom (team captains) come out and stand to the left and right of the “buzzer” with their hands at their sides. Explain that “the top answers are on the board” and ask the first question. The first to slap the “buzzer” answers the question. If they answer correctly, they may choose to “play” or “pass”. If they “play”, then you continue to ask the rest of their team (one by one, without help from other teammates), for the other “top answers”. If they get all the answers, they win 1-point. If they answer it incorrectly, they get a “strike”. Upon three “strikes”, the other team may “steal” by answering one of the “top answers” correctly. They may visit together for a few seconds to come up with an answer. If they answer correctly, they get 1-point. If they answer incorrectly, the other team gets 1-point. Continue with the next question with the second team player from each team coming out to the “buzzer”. Note: This is based upon the TV game show and is set up similarly. This is best just after dinner from the head table, before the dance begins. The Questions: Name something newlyweds might do within their first year of marriage...

1. Buy A House 2. Buy A Car 3. Start A New Job 4. Get Pregnant 5. Move Away

Name something you might see at a wedding reception that you might not see at a funeral...

1. Bride & Groom 2. Wedding Cake 3. Wedding Gifts 4. Alcohol 5. Happy People

Name something the Newlyweds would not want to forget to take on their honeymoon...

1. Spouse 2. Airline Tickets 3. Proper Clothing Protection (any kind, sunscreen, birth control, etc.) 4. Cash

Name something the Father of the Bride is thinking on the wedding day...

1. I’m Broke! 2. Where’s The Bar? 3. These Tux Shoes Really Hurt! 4. Are We Done With Pictures Yet? 5. Isn’t My Little Girl Beautiful?

Suggested Songs: Any song; however, none is needed

Will He or Will She Set Up: Set up two chairs, back to back, in the middle of the dance floor. Have the bride and groom sit down (facing away from each other) and take off their shoes. Have them each take one of the other’s shoes so that they each have a bride’s and groom’s shoe. Explain that you are going to find out how much the newlyweds agree on marital responsibilities. Tell them to raise the groom’s shoe if they believe he will be responsible for the items you describe and vise versa for the bride. Here are some sample questions:

Who was attracted to who first? Who will take out the trash? Who is most likely to procrastinate? Who is most likely to mow the lawn? Who is most likely to cook dinner? Who is most likely to suggest fast food? Who will do the laundry? Dishes? Wash the Car? Etc. Who will pay the bills? Who is the better driver? Who will say “I’m sorry” first? Who is most likely to go out with friends and get permission later? Who is most likely to be “in the mood?”

Suggested Songs: No song is needed. YMCA *PROP Set Up 1: Simply play the song. Encourage the crowd to create the letters YMCA during the chorus. Most people will know the song. Set Up 2: See Village People for the prop explanation. Suggested Songs: "YMCA" Prize Suggestions Optional Prizes: Every dance other than Weddings and Anniversaries may receive a Complete Music tee shirt to give away as a prize. The DJ can use their discretion as how to give it away. Other prize ideas are: a romantic spotlight dance, blow up guitar, blow up microphone, blow up beach ball, leis, being a guest DJ for a set of music, you can buy the winner a pop, etc. Use your imagination and be creative. Disc Jockey involvement will directly impact your performance, evaluation, bookings, and your tip! PROPS ARE NOT PRIZES: In general, props are never to be given away as prizes. Unless included in a package (i.e. glow sticks), do not let props “walk away.”
