Retirees from the U3A NetworkcelebratedanotherfruitfulyearoflearningwhileshowcasingtheirachievementsduringtheannualcompletionceremonyheldearlierinMarch.Theirpursuitoflifelonglearningaswellascontributiontosocietyhavedemonstratedthatlearningshouldnotceaseafterretirement.

WiththeU3Aprojectnowinitsseventhyearofoperation,theCompanyandtheHongKongCouncilofSocialService(HKCSS)commissionedastudytoassessitssocialimpact.Theresult

indicatesthatU3Ahasenabledmorethan90%ofitsretireestudentstostaysociallyandmentallyactivewhileincreasingtheirconfidenceandself-esteem.

Atthisyear’sceremony,anawardschemewasintroducedtorecogniseoutstandingstudents,teachersandcentreswhoareexpectedtosetgoodrolemodelstoattractmoreretireestojoin.

Toencouragefurtherknowledgesharing,HKElectricjoinedhandswithHKCSStoorganiseaforuminMayinvitingoutstandingstudents,teachersandcommitteemembersofU3Acentrestosharetheirsuccessstorieswiththeircounterparts.

實踐低碳More than 300 teachersandstudentsfromsome70schoolsparticipatedinthe“HappyGreenAmbassadorsWorkshop”on�May,tolearnmoreaboutelectricity,renewableenergyandthenewchallengesofenvironmentalprotection.Committedtopromotinggreenmessagesatschool,theseambassadorswillorganiseabout200lowcarbonactivitiesintheircampuses,suchas“BringYourOwnWaterBottleDay”,“BringYourOwnHandkerchiefDay”and“NoFoodWasteDay”.

The“kungfu”themecontinuedintothegamesforparticipatingvolunteersandseniormanagement.ThespiritedteamheadedbyGeneralManager(HumanResources),Ms.TriniChan,wastheultimatewinnerofthecovetedoverallchampionship.Thisyear,theCompanyalsointroducedanewawardssystemtorecognisethosewiththehighestservicehours.DirectorofOperations,Mr.YuenSui-see,presentedgold,silverandbronzemedalstovolunteers,whileMr.TseYat-faifromtheGenerationDivisionsharedthehonourof“TheBestFamilyVolunteer”awardwithhiswife.
