After coming 2nd in the world for U/19 Powerlifting (at only 15 years old) Alexander Braxton (Right, Grade 12) has quite suc-cessfully transitioned into the cut-throat category of body-building. Braxton never fails to impress, achieving yet another 2nd place in the U/18 men’s Shameen Classic Bodybuilding contest in Bellville on the 30th of April 2016. Concipio has managed to secure an exclusive interview with the rising star and his legacy.
Braxton is back!

Van Agter die SkoolbankSouth Africans love complaining
When we aren’t complaining about bad governance, corruption, crime and the traffic - we’re ranting on social media about the unfairness of it all.
South Africa is being ravaged by a disease. It is rapidly spreading through our society like a tumor, choking our livelihood.
Negativity will mean an end to our society if we don’t fight it.
Granted – much of the barrage is well-founded. I am, however, of the belief that with the right to complain when something is wrong, comes the responsibility to do something about the problem.
The perfect example is that of
disgruntled commuters complain-ing about how congested our roads have become while they drive to work all alone in a fuel-guzzling 4x4. The problem lies in their attitude and their mindset of not wanting to solve a problem for which they refuse to take responsibility.
How often is it that we have to listen to someone complaining about South Africa’s disastrous drought to a backtrack of a tap dripping in the bathroom.
It is easy to blame big industries for climate change and pollution, but isn’t it time that we start picking up the lit-ter on our school grounds instead of ignoring it as we pass by? You might not have littered, but it is your moral
responsibility to pick it up. We are all guilty of hypocritical
complaining, but it is time to put an end to the trend, before it puts an end to us.
Making these mind shifts might seem small and insignificant to you now, but in the words of Nino Var-simashvili: “It is so that sometimes small changes lead to a big differ-ence.”

So Alex, why bodybuilding?I just felt it was the right time, and as a
sport it obviously holds a lot of positive effects; I’ve really become both physi-cally and mentally strong and felt that my confidence has enhanced along with
my body.First successful Powerlifter, then body-
builder. What type of things were you do-ing before bodybuilding?
Well, as you said, Powerlifting was a really good experience for me but once I had reached my full potential in it – I made the change to bodybuilding. Be-sides those two, I’ve also done a lot of
swimming and rugby. Before entering the Shameen Classic,
what was your prep time like?Simply put, 16 gruelling weeks of
blood, sweat and tears. When you’re in the gym, what goes
through your mind when you do that last rep?
Haha. Pizza. Always Pizza. Shout out to those people who kept you
on track?Huge thanks to my mom and girl-
friend. Obviously my mates at school who supported me and then to all the
people I’ve met along the way, everyone has played their part in what I’ve ac-
complished. Now, the important stuff. What was
your diet like pre-comp?Oh gosh. Yea, it’s pretty much six
meals a day that are always 2-3 hours apart. For the biology guys out there, it’s about 2500-2800 calories a day. This was all supplemented with whey protein, BCAAs (amino acids) and good old L-
glutamine. Geez, massive diet. What did the train-
ing schedule like?Yea, to work actually fully utilise all
those calories I’d gym twice a day. Strict regime of 30- 40 minutes cardio in the morning followed by classic weightlift-ing in the afternoon. I’d top it off with a further 30 minutes of cardio. This hap-pens 6 days a week, with a solid rest on
Sundays. All athletes come to points in their
training where the pull to quit is almost impossible to resist, how did you over-
come yours?I think the only thing that really kept
me working hard, was that I was do-ing what I really loved. Sure, there were times where it was brutal and I consid-ered throwing in the towel… but with
support from my loved ones and my own drive to succeed, nothing could
stop me. So is the journey over for Big Man Brax-ton, or are their future plans in place?Academics, academics and more aca-
demics. I realise how important mat-ric is to every student and I’m really focused on not only doing well in the gym, but succeeding at school as well. I do, however, have plans to put on a lot more muscle for 2018, aiming for that
1st place. Let’s say the average Paul Rooser comes
to you wanting to follow in your foot-steps, any advice?
Always start with the basics, build a foundation, follow a proper diet and ex-ercise with proper form. Forget trying to lift heavy and be patient. Slow pro-gress is better than no progress. Before you start make sure you have the right mind-set and determination to achieve your goal. Then finally, it’s a difficult path, but it can also be an expensive route – make sure your parents know that they are going to need to dish out some cash for your gym fees, diet and supplements. can hold you back.

Drie PRG-leerders (op die foto v.l.n.r. Jared Booysen, Quin-

Die eerste rondte is by Hoërskool Hugenote in Wellington gehou.
2016 se onderwerp was Engels as onderrigtaal sal verdraagsaamheid in Suid-Afrika bevorder.
Karin Tomlinson baie goed gevaar.

The Awesome Foursome choir fes-tival, hosted by Stellenbosch High on Tuesday 10 May, proved to be series of choir performances living up to the title of this prestigious annual event.
Rhenish, Paul Roos, Stellenbosch High and the Tygerberg Children's Choir all performed at the festival, snatching up the ideal opportunity for rectifying mistakes and sorting out problems before next week's first round of ATKV Applous.
The Rhenish Choir was first, with ms Sonja van Amstel running the show.
This is an excellent choir. Absolute dedication and an enormous amount of practice has led to the incredible dynamics of the choir’s performance.
Although Rhenish's choice of music might be regarded as slightly con-servative, the excellent quality of execution outshone the somewhat “old-fashioned” selction of songs.
Next up was the Tygerberg Chil-dren's Choir with yet another as-tounding performance.
This was their first year at Awesome Foursome, and the audience was very pleased to have been graced by their presence.
Then it was time for the esteemed Paul Roos Gymnasium Choir, who delivered the best performance of Pouse so far. Despite some miscom-munication between choir members in terms of dance moves, the perfor-mance quality of the African song has much improved. The prescribed works were also performed on an
excellent level. The bass section, under Zak Visser's
leadership, did exceptionally well, and there was little to fault them on. There are still a few things to improve on before Applous, but the choir is confident that it will be able to pull through.
Stellenbosch High's mixed choir was up. The choir has great potential, and rendered an outstanding perfor-mance.
The choir's switching of positions was quite amusing, which ensured that the audience's attention was always focused on them – at least until the conductor started explaining every song to the audience.
The next choir competition will indeed be the first round of ATKV Applous at Gene Louw Primary.
Awesome! Awesome Foursome

groot netwerk. Ek het gehoop dat
so baie mense betrokke
sou raak,
want dit
maak dit makliker om
iemand anders te help. Ek is verbaas
Wees dus gewaarsku: hierdie kolom is net ’n mening.
– Hennie Koegelenberg

As children we’ve all saved the world, and this year, Insomniac Stu-dios wants you to do it again.
If you’ve owned a Playstation system in your (even) younger years, and have never played a Ratchet and Clank game, you’ve owned half a system. The original “Ratchet and Clank” has been completely remade for the PS4, and serves as a fantastic reboot to the beloved game series.
Some of your favourite weapons re-turn with some new ones to boot. My personal favourite must be the Mr. Zurkon support bot. Mr. Zurkon will fly by your side, shoot evil aliens and occasionally say a catchphrase like, “Have you been killed by Mr. Zurkon
yet?” The weapon upgrade system is pure
fun. The more you play with your weapon of choice the more damage it will deal and the more optional upgrades become available. Once a weapon reaches level 5, it will gain a game-changing modification.
The game is packed with the classic humour the Ratchet and Clank series is known for, and topped with story-related clips from the new “Ratchet and Clank” movie. Long-time fans will enjoy seeing their pixelised child-hood experiences in vibrant high definition. The game is absolutely gorgeous and very colourful in its open areas.
The core characters are well voiced, but some of the supporting roles left me annoyed because of their weak acting skills. There are a few glitches regarding PS trophies, but they all help you out, so this is both good and bad. Also, once you earn the RYNO weapon, the game becomes a walko-ver if you want it to be, but that’s probably the point of this super-weapon.
I throughly enjoyed my playthrough(s) of the remake of the one entry I never got to play. If you liked Ratchet and Clank back in the day, don’t hesitate to buy this game, because it’s a steal at almost half the price of AAA releases.
“Grim, you gotta see this.” 9.2/10
