    output to weight ratio.

Modular construction chosen to minimise manufacturing

    lead times.

Winding designs available to give a wide range of voltages,

    380-480 V, 690 V, 2400 V, 3300 V, 4160 V, 6600 V, 7200 V,

10 kV, 11 kV, 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV. Other voltages available by

    request

High quality Silicon electrical steel used for rotor and stator

    construction.

Rotors are constructed with fully interconnected damper

    (amortisseur) windings.

Controls and system monitoring devices are housed in a

    separate machine mounted enclosure.

AvK/ STAMFORD DM110 Digital AVR (by Basler)

    Power factor controller as standard.

    Manual voltage regulation as standard.

power via the DM110 AVR to the main exciter, giving a source

of constant excitation power independent of generator output.

The exciter output is then fed to the main rotor, through a full

wave bridge rectifier, protected by surge suppressors.

The AVR has in-built protection against generator overvoltage,

loss of sensing voltage and field overvoltage (Overexcitation

shutdown). Overexcitation and underexcitation limiters are also

    a feature of this AVR.

An engine relief load acceptance feature can enable full

load,in accordance with ISO8528, to be applied to the

    generator in a single step.

    Voltage Regulation

The 3 phase or single phase RMS voltage sensing in AVR

mode. Regulation of ± 0.5%, from no load to full load including

cold to hot variations for any power factor between 0.8 lagging

and unity, allowing for 4 % engine speed variations. It is

particularly suitable for non-linear load applications.

True RMS sensingThe PMG together with true r.m.s. sensing provides isolation

from distorted voltage waveforms associated with non linear

loads. No additional harmonic filtration is required.

    Three phase sensing

Three phase sensing centres any voltage imbalance, caused

by load imbalance, on the nominal voltage, and helps to

ensure trouble free operation under the most demanding

    loads.

    Short circuit

Industrial machine will sustain a maximum short circuit of

300% rated current under a 3 phase L-L-L short circuit

condition. The AVR will support this condition for up to 10

seconds, at which point the AVR over-excitation protection

system will de-excite the machine. Sustained current levels

under 2 phase L-L or 1 phase L-Nshort circuit levels are much

higher than the above L-L-L levels and must be removed from

the generator, by breakers, within typically 5 seconds and 2

    seconds respectively.

    PMG

Stamford's most advanced Permanent Generator (PMG)

excitation system, for the ultimate in reliability, response and

stability, is fitted as standard. The DM110 digital automatic

voltage regulator (AVR), designed and produced specifically for

the P80 range of ac generators, is also fitted as standard.

    Features

StandardsP80 Industrial Generators meet the requirementsof BSEN60034 and the relevant sections of other international standards such as BS5000, VDE0530, Nema MG1-32, IECEN60034, CSA C22.2-100 and AS1359.Marine generators may be certified to Lloyds, DNV,Bureau Veritas, ABS, Germanischer-Lloyd or RINA.Other standards and certifications can beconsidered on request.

Quality AssuranceGenerators are designed and manufactured to QAProcedures conforming to ISO9001.

    ELECTRICAL FEATURES :

     AVR

The P80 range of generators are fitted with the AvK,

STAMFORD DM110 digital excitation system. This is an

electronic, solid-state, microprocessor based device developed

in conjunction with Basler and supplied exclusively for AvK

STAMFORD generators. The input power to the excitationsystem is supplied by a multi-pole, high frequency, permanent

magnet generator (PMG). The DM110, with PMG, is fitted as

standard to the P80 range of generators. The PMG provides

    Parallel Operation

All P80 generators are well suited for parallel operation with

the mains utility or other generators. For paralleling with the

utilities power factor correction or reactive power (var)

regulation are features of the DM110 AVR.

Our standard winding pitch is 2/3. However consideration

needs to be given to other conditions such as, pitch of sets

already on site and how neutrals are connected. An Excitation

Loss Module (ELM) will give protection against loss of

excitation from the excitation system. The ELM is housed in

the generator's separate low voltage control box, and may be

supplied either factory fitted or for after-market fitment.

    Insulation/Impregnation

The impregnation materials and processes are specifically

selected to provide protection against harsh environments

encountered by generator applications. Resins are selected

    and developed to provide the

high build required for static windings and the high mechanicalstrength required for rotating components.

For High Voltage stators, (> 4400 V) Stamford has a Hybrid

System using the best features of Global VPI and Resin rich

Technology, to give a superior product, optimising insulation life

in the stator slot section, with the advantage of VPI epoxy in the

out-hangs for strength, electrical properties and optimum

protection. This insulation system has been selected to give

PROVEN results, with maximum benefit to the customer in

terms of DURABILITY and RELIABILITY. All HV machines

    have Corona Protection tapes applied.

For Medium voltage machines (Up to 4400 V) Stamford has

developed a Class H insulation system, using mica and

Nomex technology for optimal results and performance.

All P80 stators and rotors are rotate cured to retain resin in the

slot section, to give a uniform resin coating overall for

protection, for uniform balance of rotating components and

most importantly on HV stators, to prevent the formation of

resin spikes, which can act as electrical stress points in the

    winding.

Class F insulation system and Class F rating on HVSI

Class H insulation system and Class H rating on LVSI, LVSM

    and MVSI.

Platinum resistance type temperature detectors (PT100) are

fitted, 2 per phase, as standard on MVSI and HVSI and are a

recommended option on LVSI / LVSM.

    Winding and Electrical Performance

The stator winding in conjunction with carefully selected pole

and tooth designs ensures optimal performance and low

waveform distortion. A fully interconnected damper winding

stabilises the rotor during load changes.

    Radio Interference

The absence of brushgear and the high quality AVR ensure

low levels of interference with radio transmissions. Additional

RFI suppression may be supplied if required.

    Telephone Interference

THF (As defined by EN60034: Part 1) is better than 2%. TIF

(As defined by ASA C50.12) is better than 50.

Waveform distortionTotal Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the open circuit voltage

waveform is less than 1.5 %. Under 3 phase balanced, linear,

load conditions the THD is less than 3%.

    MECHANICAL FEATURES :

    Terminal Box

Instrument and control connections are in a separated

compartment, with external access for safety. The wiring

diagram for the machine is fitted within this compartment.

Heater connections, which remain live after generator

shutdown, are designed to prevent direct contact, for reasons

of safety. Terminal boxes are designed to be rugged and

internal components are designed for durability and reliability at

the high levels of imposed vibration from the prime mover. The

terminal box is designed with the provision for propriety CT's to

be field retrofitted, relatively easily, by skilled personnel.

    Vibration Limits

All generator rotors are dynamically balanced to better than

BS6861: Part 1, Grade 2.5 for minimal vibration during

operation. Two bearing generators are balanced with a half

    key.

    Bearings

Stamford P80 generators use deep groove ball bearing

technology to satisfy the needs of industrial and marine

markets. A high specification synthetic grease is used, with

suitable maintenance intervals, to give a designed L10 life of

40,000 hours. For continuous duty applications Bearing RTD's

are recommended as an option and can be retrofitted easily in

the field by skilled personnel. Other bearing designs are

    available upon request.

    Drawings

GA and customer connection box layout drawings are available

on request; refer to factory for details.

    Torsional Approval

All generators are designed for torsional compatibility with

known available engines. Responsibility for ensuring this

compatibility, however, lies with the set manufacturer. Full

torsional data relating to the generator will be supplied on

    request.

    Construction

Modular in concept. The stator core is manufactured fromelectrical steel laminations pressed between two thick end

plates. The core is welded to landing bars to form the main

structure of the generator. Cast SG Iron bearing end shields,

for strength and rigidity, are designed with bolt on feet to

provide alternative foot heights to suit the base frame. The

complete machine is modelled in 3D, for Finite Element

     Analysis (FEA)

on components/assembly for fatigue, maximum stresses and

natural frequencies. The 3D model is available to customers for

set and bed frame design assistance.

    Gas and Steam Turbines

Many of these applications require a hard mounting capability,

without resilient mounts. The two bearing rolling element

bearing design for R, S & T cores are suitable for hard

mounting, with factory specified bed minimum stiffness criteria.

    For other applications, consult factory.
