The more pulses there are with different a's, the less arethe harmonics

When cycloconverters are used to run an ac machine,

the leakage inductance of the machine filters most of thehigher frequency harmonics and reduces themagnitudes of the lower order harmonics.

Another advantage is that only one converter is inconduction at all times rather than two. This means lesslosses and higher efficiency.

The circulating current cycloconverter applies asmoother load voltage with less harmonics compared tothe blocking mode case.
