Fitness In The Water At The Community Center June 2 - September 39-10am daily (times may vary in late summer)

Fee: Drop in or Facility PassMost of the time, exercise makes us feel good. Other times, exercisecan be more painful than pleasing. Adults of all ages, and particularly those age 50 and older, are finding that exercising in water helpsincrease the longevity of their joints while providing similar healthbenefits as other exercise. Like land exercise, water fitness offersmany different types of opportunities fitting participants’ goals fromhigh energy workouts to gentle soothing regimens aimed at reducingarthritic pain and stiffness.

Water resistance, known as hydrostatic pressure, makes moving in water more strenuous than on land. The addition of equipment and vigorous movement can help participants tailor their exercise

intensity, making it comparable to activities they might do on land, but because heart rates are lower in water, they may feel lessexertion.

As participants get their hearts pumping and tone muscles, the water’sbuoyancy helps protect their joints from the shocking impacts they may experience during land exercise.

Water exercise is ideal as part of a cross-training routine that includes a variety of activities, including weight-bearing exercise,

which is important in maintaining healthy bones and building muscle. The therapeutic qualities of water are an important aspect of waterfitness, especially for those with arthritis, injuries and otherconditions limiting movements.

10 And Under Tennis10 and Under QuickStart Tennis follows the same logic as other youth sportslike baseball or soccer, which use kid-sized courts and kid-sized equipment.Kids learn to play baseball by first playing T-ball; they use shorter, lighterbats and larger, softer balls. Kids learning basketball shoot baskets with kid-sized balls on lowered backboards and they play soccer on smaller fieldswith smaller goals.

Now with 10 and Under QuickStart Tennis, balls bounce lower, don’t moveas fast through the air and are easier to hit. Racquets are sized for smallhands and courts are smaller and easier to cover. By using this format, thebenefits are immediate and within a short time kids are rallying, playing, andexcited to keep playing. That means kids will have more fun and lessfrustration. They’re playing real tennis and having real fun — and that’swhat is most important.

Healthier, More Active KidsTennis is one of the best ways for kids to become healthy and physically fiThe very nature of the game of serving, returning and rallying makes tennian active sport with plenty of movement, starts, stops and direction chang

As such, tennis is a great cardiovascular activity, and the movements used the court help develop enhanced balance, agility and coordination. Mentafocus is also sharpened through tennis because decision-making andconcentration are necessary every time a ball is hit.
