Our Club

Askatuak Saskibaloi Taldea was founded in 1975 by José Antonio Gasca, Iñaki Almandoz, Fran Otxoa, José Mª Zumalde, and Alberto Cifuentes, among others.

José Antonio Gasca was also the main promoter of the current men’s professional basketball league in Spain (ACB).

Askatuak Club got to the First Division in its first season. Especially during the seventies and eighties, some of the best players who have ever played in Gipuzkoa arrived in San Sebastian to wear the Askatuak colours. Among them were

Ed Robota, Dave Russell, Essie Hollis, Abdul Jeelani, Charles Pittman, etc., who shared the court with local top players such as Shegun Azpiazu, Estanis Ubarrechena, Iñaki Yurramendi, etc...

During its over forty years of history, the Club has entered the competition in the most important national men’s leagues. Besides, it was the first Basque Club to enter a European competition, the Korak Cup, in the 1977-78 and the 1978-79 seasons.

Today, Askatuak is made up of more tan 250 players divided into 25 teams in the 2016-2017 season, three basketball schools, and more than 20 coaches.

A skatuak Cup was created to enjoy playing basketball. To promote friendship, participation and the values that

basketball represents.

We invite you to visit San Sebastian, our city, and spend three days doing what you enjoy most: playing basketball. We will meet new teams, clubs, girls and boys who enjoy this wonderful sport as much as you do.

All this in a dynamic tournament that will be fun and very comfortable. Up to 32 teams divided into two groups, a minimum of four games each to be played in one single sports centre (to avoid having to move around), all staying in nearby accommodation facilities within fifteen minutes maximum from the sports centre, in an attractive city, San Sebastian.
