WAVE ALERTSSchool Closings for Snow and EmergenciesThe School has contracted with Honeywell InstantAlerts to communicate closings due to weather or emergencies. Parents will be informed of closingsvirtually instantaneously at approximately 5:30 a.m.through their choice of medium (phone, cell, internet,etc.). News of a closing will also be posted on theSchool’s website and the School’s phone system atextension 2999.

Questions/ProblemsIf a question or problem arises that is not specificallycovered here or in the Handbook for Students andParents, information can usually be obtained by callingthe main office, extensions 3026, 3027, and 3019between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

Attendance PolicyStudents will be excused from school for the followingreasons: illness, death in the family, and religiousholidays. Juniors and Seniors, with advance approval bythe Assistant Headmaster, will also be excused forcollege visits according to the procedure outlined in thestudent handbook.

Attendance ProceduresOn the day of an absence, a parent or guardian shouldnotify the School of the student's absence by tele-phoning ABSE (2273) before 8:45am. All students mustbring a note explaining their absence on the day of theirreturn to School. Procedure for pre-arranged absences isoutlined in the student handbook.

Homework AssignmentsIf a student is absent for a day or two, he may contacthis classmates for missed assignments. In some cases,assignments may be posted on the Schoology ClassWebsite, sent via class e-mail, and/or written into theclass syllabus. Most teachers allow students to contactthem directly via e-mail. Since we expect a student to beresponsible for his own learning, he should be aware ofeach individual class policy regarding absences. Forextended absences, contact the appropriate grade levelguidance counselor or the Dean of Guidance.

Yearly Medical Regulations The following forms MUST be signed and on file with the School nurse. These forms arerequired at the beginning of each school year and updated yearly:

1. Student’s medical history – must be entered online.2. Immunization record in compliance with New Jersey Administrative Code,

including the Hepatitis B series and meningococcal vaccine, varicella vaccine (or laboratoryevidence of immunity) and Tdap.

3. Yearly physical by physician, must be done every 365 days4. Authorization for administration of medication (includes over-the-counter medications such as

acetaminophen or ibuprofen). Permission form must be signed by physician and by parent5. Yearly dental exam.6. Emergency contact information – must be entered on line.7. Students trying out for sports must have current physical and Delbarton Athletic

Pre-participation Form completed for each sport. All student-athletes must also sign theNJSIAA Concussion Policy Form and the NJSIAA Steroid Policy Form. If playing a contactsport the Impact consent form must be signed.

Daily Medical RegulationsStudents are not permitted to carry any medication during the school day unless it is for

emergency purposes. (Epipens and inhalers can be carried by the student when the written orderfrom the doctor and permission of the parent is on file with the nurse.) An Authorization forAdministration of Medication (# 4 above) must be on file before nurse is allowed to give anymedications.

Any student who needs to leave school during the day due to illness must be seen first by theSchool nurse.

All injuries must be reported to the School nurse. All excuses for gym/sports must be given tothe nurse. The School has accident insurance coverage through Bollinger Insurance Co. Notifythe nurse if you wish to file a claim. Claims must be filed within 90 days of date of injury.

All infectious diseases (i.e., mononucleosis, strep throat, impetigo, mrsa, conjunctivitis) are tobe reported to the nurse. Please keep your sons home when they are ill and notify nurse at ext-3080 of extended illness of greater than 3 days, surgery and/or other special needs.

If your son is going on a field trip or staying on campus for an evening or weekend event,please notify the faculty in charge of any specific health needs. This includes asthma, diabetes,seizure disorder, and allergic condition which may require the use of an Epipen. (Students withinhalers and/or Epipens should carry their own with them at all times.)

AdmissionsThe admission season runs from September

to January of a given academic year. Applicantstypically apply, therefore, in the fall prior totheir year of actual enrollment. Students usuallyapply to Delbarton for acceptance into seventhor ninth grades, though a few openings may beavailable every year to grades ten and eleven.Delbarton does not accept students into gradeseight or twelve.

A boy’s candidacy for admission will beconsidered only after he completes the applica-tion (either online or on paper), the schoolinterview offered at Delbarton on Saturdaymornings (from September to early January),and the Delbarton entrance examination(administered at Delbarton on three Saturdays –October 26, November 16 and December 7).

The Admissions Committee meets formally inlate January regarding decisions to accept, waitpool, or decline students for grades seven andnine. Action on students for grades ten andeleven may take place as late as June.

Delbarton seeks a broad diversity in itsstudent body. The School is also committed tomaking its educational opportunities available toqualified young men regardless of their ability topay. Delbarton demonstrates this commitmentthrough a growing financial aid programdesigned to meet the proven financial need ofenrolled families.
