Quella appena tra-scorsa, è stata

un’edizione dell’Inter-national Trevi Group Meeting di grande valo-re! Nei contenuti deci-samente concreti, nel-le presenze in numero maggiore rispetto al-le edizioni del passato, nella valenza delle linee strategiche individuate per il prossimo futuro e infine nell’entusiasmo che ha saputo espri-mere. Un entusiasmo che manifesta, e lo dico con un pizzico di orgo-glio, anche la soddisfa-zione di stare e lavorare in questo Gruppo. Per questo vorrei comin-ciare questo editoriale col ringraziare tutti co-loro che vi hanno pre-so parte e che si sono adoperati per renderlo possibile. La prima, grande novità che vorrei sottolineare è che da questo Interna-tional Trevi Group Me-eting nasce un Gruppo unico, articolato in due divisioni, “Construc-tion” ed “Oil&Gas”,

Insieme ad altre eccellenze italiane, il Gruppo Tre-vi, tramite la filiale TREVIICOS, ha aderito all’An-no della Cultura Italiana negli USA organizzato dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri. “Italy Forward: ricer-ca, scoperta, innovazione” è il tema, diretto a pre-sentare l’Italia come Paese della modernità inno-vativa nella scienza e nelle produzioni.

Together with other Italian excellence, the Trevi Group, through its subsidiary TREVIICOS, joined the Year of Italian Culture in the U.S. organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Italy Forward: research, discovery and innovation”; the theme aims at presenting Italy as a country of innovative modernity in science and productions.

The recent Interna-tional Trevi Group

Meeting was really val-uable! It had very con-crete contents, a larger attendance than in the past editions and it out-lined valuable strategies for the near future, hence triggering a remarka-ble enthusiasm. A kind of enthusiasm that, and I tell you this with a hint of pride, also shows the satisfaction of being part of and working for this Group. And it’s just for this reason that I would like to begin this editorial by thanking all those who took part and contributed to make this possible.The first big news I would like to emphasize is that from this International Trevi Group Meeting a unique Group is born which is divided into two divisions, “Construction” and “Oil & Gas”, in order to better take advantage of the synergies that might arise in their respective working areas.

per sfruttare al meglio le sinergie che si potranno creano nei rispettivi ambiti operativi. E per sup-portare al meglio questa scelta strategica, abbiamo stabilito che, a cominciare dal prossimo 1 luglio, si svolgeranno Consigli di Amministrazione dedicati a ciascuna divisione. Abbiamo quindi scelto il tema Principale del Mee-ting all’assunzione di responsabilità, “Accountabili-ty”, oggi tanto necessaria, a qualsiasi livello e man-sione, per far fronte alle nuove, crescenti difficoltà a cui quotidianamente siamo sottoposti dalla globa-lizzazione dei mercati. Ne abbiamo dibattuto tut-ti quanti insieme, confrontandoci a viso aperto sia nelle sessioni plenarie sia nei workshop e uscendone sicuramente rafforzati.La capacità di assumere la responsabilità del decidere e del fare è stato il richiamo costante di questo Inter-national Meeting. Un richiamo che può valere in di-verse e molteplici situazioni, dalle più complesse alle più semplici. E che comunque coinvolge allo stesso modo dirigenti, impiegati e maestranze. Rientra nel senso di responsabilità di ogni Dirigente o Capo Servizio, l’adoperarsi con dedizione ed impe-gno per formare adeguatamente personale che sia in grado, nei giusti tempi, di assumersi responsabili-tà; questo significa assicurare il futuro all’organizza-zione o nell’azienda nella quale si opera, oltre a cre-are sviluppo per il Gruppo Trevi. Rientra nel senso di responsabilità di tutti quanti quello di lasciare da parte le lamentele sussurrate a fil di voce per aprire un confronto chiaro e onesto con il proprio respon-sabile. Questo significa dare un contributo reale e concreto alla capacità dei responsabili di valutare al meglio le situazioni e prendere così le decisioni più corrette. È ancora senso di responsabilità quello di capire dove e come intervenire per tagliare costi inu-tili e trovare, grazie alle nuove tecnologie, soluzioni

alternative che favoriscano momenti di confronto e di condivisione. Questo perché ridurre gli sprechi di tempo e di denaro significa abbattere la burocrazia delle consuetudini e quindi migliorare il nostro “ti-ming” sul mercato con conseguenti vantaggi sull’ac-quisizione di nuove commesse o sulla gestione delle problematiche più svariate.Per concludere, vorrei rimarcare con forza che il no-stro Gruppo è ancora oggi in grado di esprimere un grande equilibrio fra i tre piloni che, da sempre, rap-presentano le fondamenta del nostro sviluppo: una parte relativa alla capacità di esprimere tecnologia sempre all’avanguardia, una parte alle capacità cre-scente di produrre reddito, grazie alla dedizione e responsabilizzazione a tutti i livelli, e la terza parte alla capacità di ridurre al minimo i rischi finanziari e, nel contempo produrre finanza. Aiming at better supporting this strategic choice, we established that, with start from the 1st of July, the Board of Directors’ Meetings will be called, dedicated to each division.Therefore, the Main theme of the Meeting we chose was focused on the taking of responsibilities, i.e., the “Ac-countability”, an attitude that is especially necessary today, at any level and job, in order to be able to meet the new, growing difficulties we have to face daily due to the Globalization of Markets. We discussed about it all together, openly confronting each other both in plenary sessions and in the workshops and, at the end, we were definitely strengthened in our working attitude.The ability to take on the responsibility of deciding and doing was the constant reminder of this International Meeting. A reminder that may be applicable in many dif-

ferent situations, from the most complex to the simplest ones. And that, anyway, involves both directors and em-ployees and workers in the same way.It’s part of the sense of responsibility of each Manager or Director to work with dedication and commitment, in order to adequately train personnel capable, in the due time, to take responsibilities; this means ensur-ing the future of the Organization or the Company in which one works, as well as creating development for the Trevi Group.It’s part of the sense of responsibility of everyone to leave aside whispered complaints and start, instead, a dia-logue that is clear and honest with one’s own manager. This means giving a real and substantial contribution to the ability of managers to better evaluate situations and make the most correct decisions too.And it’s once again a sense of responsibility to under-stand where and how to intervene, in order to cut un-necessary costs and find, thanks to the new technolo-gies, alternative solutions that foster opportunities for discussion and sharing. This is because the reduction of wasted time and money implies cutting down the red-tape of customs and thus improving our “timing” on the market, with consequent benefits on the acquisition of new contracts or the management of various issues.To conclude, I would like to strongly emphasize that our group is still capable to guarantee a great balance be-tween the three pillars that, as always, are the founda-tion of our development: the first refers to the ability of providing cutting-edge technology, the second refers to the growing ability of producing income, thanks to the dedication and accountability at all levels, and the third refers to the ability of minimizing the finan-cial risks and, at the same time, producing finance. Arabia SauditaDrillmec si aggiudica contratti nuovi impianti petroliferi on-shoreDrillmec S.p.A., società del Gruppo Trevi specializzata nella realizzazione di impianti per la perforazione petrolifera e pozzi d’acqua, si è aggiudicata la fornitura di sei nuovi impianti petroliferi on-shore da SnamProgetti Arabia Saudita società di Saipem e da IDC Iraq Drilling Company. Per SnamProgetti Drillmec realizzerà tre impianti on-shore di nuova concezione che saranno prodotti e testati presso lo stabilimento Drillmec di Piacenza, per essere successivamente trasferiti ed installati nella regione di Dammam in Arabia Saudita. Il contratto prevede la consegna degli impianti in soluzione “full package”, comprensivi quindi di tutti gli accessori per il drilling. La società si occuperà inoltre dei servizi di “rig up”, della manutenzione dei singoli impianti e dell’assistenza tecnica dedicata. Per IDC Iraq Drilling Company, invece, Drillmec fornirà tre impianti per la perforazione petrolifera.

Saudi ArabiaDrillmec wins on-shore new oil drilling rigs contractsDrillmec S.p.A., a Trevi Group company, specialized in the manufacturing of oil and water drilling rigs, has been awarded with the supply of six new on-shore oil drilling rigs from SnamProgetti Arabia Saudita, a Saipem company, and from IDC Iraq Drilling Company. For SnamProgetti, Drillmec will manufacture three on-shore newly conceptualized rigs that will be produced and tested at the factory of Drillmec S.p.A. in Piacenza, and later transferred and installed in the region of Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The contract covers for the delivery of the rigs in “full package” solution which include all accessories for drilling. The company will also carry out the rig up services, maintenance of the individual rigs and dedicated technical support. For IDC Iraq Drilling Company, Drillmec will provide three oil drilling rigs.

ArgentinaRinnovo di contratti nel settore drillingPetreven, società del Gruppo Trevi specializzata nei servizi di perforazione petrolifera, ha siglato con YPF Argentina, il rinnovo di tre contratti della durata di tre anni ciascuno relativi alla fornitura di servizi di perforazione. I contratti hanno l’opzione per il rinnovo di ulteriori due anni. Nell’esecuzione dei lavori, Petreven utilizzerà gli impianti HH di produzione Drillmec specializzati in perforazioni a condotta verticale ed orizzontale. (Le rig hanno una potenza pari a circa 100 tonnellate di tiro e sono provviste delle più moderne tecnologie di drilling on-shore che permettono il raggiungimento di una profondità teorica tra i 2.500 ed i 3.500 metri.)

ArgentinaContracts renewal in the drilling sectorPetreven, a Trevi Group company which specializes in oil drilling services, has signed with YPF Argentina, the renewal of three contracts for a period of three years each for the provision of drilling services. The contracts have a renewal option for two additional years. In executing the drilling activities, Petreven will use HH Drillmec rigs specialized in vertical and horizontal drilling. (Rigs have a capacity of about 100 tons pull force and are equipped with the latest on-shore drilling technology that allow reaching the theoretical depth between 2,500 and 3,500 meters.)

Clienti Soilmec, banche d’investimento, progettisti, ecc., tutti in fila per toccare con mano la capacità della divisione Construction del Gruppo Trevi di operare in situazioni complesse a causa delle condizioni climatiche, della configurazione rocciosa del terreno e la difficile gestione in un centro storico. Organizzazione e utilizzo di diverse tecnologie sono condizioni necessarie per raggiungere i risultati richiesti.

DenmarkEverybody wants to visit CopenhagenFrom the very beginning of the foundation works for the new Copenhagen metro, several groups wanted to visit the Trevi/Soilmec sites. Soilmec clients, investment banks, designers, etc., all queuing to see the ability of the Construction Division of the Trevi Group in operating in complex situations because of climatic conditions, the rock configuration of the soil and the hard conditions of historic areas. The first projectS o o n a f t e r i t s incorporation under the Brazilian laws, Trevigeos was awarded with the first project corresponding to the piled foundations of the Railway Bridge over the Paranaiba Bridge in Sao Simao, State of Goias. The construction of the bridge includes 80 GD piles both on firm land and water with rock embedment. The bridge is part of the important R a i l w a y P r o j e c t “Norte-Sur” under the responsibility of VALEC, the national agency in charge of the construction and maintenance of the railway system in the country. Terminato lo scavo record con fresa fino a 250 metri (si ve-da il precedente numero di “The Group Journal”), si è proceduto con le al-tre operazioni finalizza-te alla realizzazione del pannello.Dopo il riempimento dello scavo, avvenu-to a inizio 2013, si sta provvedendo ad ese-guire un carotaggio di-rezionale con il dupli-ce scopo di verificare le caratteristiche del get-to (omogeneità, resi-stenza, permeabilità) ed il posizionamento spaziale del pannello. Detto carotaggio, po-sizionato nello spigolo Nord-Est del pannel-lo, è stato fatto uscire volontariamente dal pannello in due punti posti rispettivamente nel lato lungo nord e nel lato lungo sud del-lo stesso. La posizione di questi due punti di intersezio-ne è stata rilevata me-diante uno strumento utilizzato in ambito di perforazioni direzio-nali profonde in modo da poter verificare l’ac-curatezza con la quale gli strumenti di bordo della fresa hanno moni-torato gli spostamenti dello scavo rispetto alla verticale. In sintesi, grazie a queste operazioni, si è ottenuto un caro-taggio di circa il 90% dell’intera lunghezza del getto, con la pro-duzione di campioni anche in prossimità

L’ A.T.I. Trevi (Trevi – C.C.C.) sta rea-

lizzando al Porto di Na-poli il secondo stralcio esecutivo del proget-to generale per la co-struzione di un nuovo Terminal Contenitori e Cassa di Colmata nel-la esistente Darsena di Levante. L’Ente Com-mittente è l’Autorità Portuale di Napoli.L’attività di cantiere re-lativa alle realizzazio-ne delle opere ha avuto inizio nel mese di luglio 2012, mentre le attività preliminari quali la bo-nifica bellica, le indagini geognostiche integrati-ve e i monitoraggi am-bientali ante-operam, hanno avuto inizio a partire dal mese di set-tembre 2011.La Darsena di Levan-te allo stato attuale presenta le seguen-ti caratteristiche mor-

dotte e cassoni di presa e scarico, saranno per lar-ga parte conglobate nel-le strutture di banchina del terminal. Il sottosuolo della Dar-sena è costituito dalla seguente successione di terreni: riporto an-tropico impiegato nella costruzione della Darse-na e della Diga (riporto); terreni sabbio-limosi del fondale (sabbie superio-ri); tufo litoide (tufo); terreni sabbiosi del fon-dale (sabbie inferiori).Le opere geotecniche previste in progetto, quali l’infissione del palancolato, le fonda-zioni in pali trivellati, il diaframma plastico di confinamento ed i con-solidamenti previsti, raggiungono, in pro-fondità, lo strato di tu-fo litoide.Ortensio Rocca, Trevi S.p.A.

fologiche: profondità variabile tra 7 e 15 m da l.m.m.; superficie dello specchio acqueo pari a circa 7 ha; piazzale re-trostante compreso tra i due moli della dar-sena di larghezza pari a 70-77 m e con fron-te banchina di 250 m; sviluppo banchina ad ovest lungo 250 m e largo 70 m (molo Pro-gresso); sviluppo ban-china a est lungo 285 m e largo 100 m (molo di Levante).Il Terminal verrà rea-lizzato confinando e colmando lo specchio acqueo della Darsena e l’area ad est della Darse-na di Levante (sporgen-te del Terminal lungo circa 200 m) con i sedi-menti dragati dai fon-dali del porto di Napoli. A tale scopo, la Darsena di Levante dovrà essere completamente imper-

meabilizzata a formare una sorta di “scatola” avente caratteristiche di permeabilità pari a K < 10-9 m/s su tutti i la-ti perimetrali e sulla ba-se (su quest’ultima non sono previsti attività nel presente appalto). Il riempimento della cassa di colmata (“cof-ferdam”) non è ogget-to del presente appal-to ed è ancora in fase di progettazione.Le attività e le opere da realizzare nell’ambito dei lavori dell’appalto in oggetto sono:• realizzazione della doppia parete combina-ta in acciaio (palancola-to), da riempire con ma-teriale inerte dotata di giunti impermeabiliz-zati, infissa fino a rag-giungere la formazione tufacea che si estende a circa 20-25 m dal livello medio mare. Il palanco-

lato costituisce la parte principale della struttu-ra portante della ban-china, lunga 630 m, con un fondale di circa 18 m, idonea all’ormeg-gio di 2 navi portacon-tenitori delle dimensio-ni corrispondenti alle maggiori portacontai-ner oggi esistenti. Tale parte d’opera delimita la colmata verso mare secondo i criteri di im-permeabilizzazione ri-chiesti dal progetto;• formazione di dia-framma plastico adat-to a confinare la colma-ta verso terra secondo i criteri di impermeabiliz-zazione previsti dal pro-getto (k<10-9 m/s); • realizzazione di pa-li trivellati all’interno degli elementi princi-pali della parete doppia combinata di cui sopra, aventi funzione di fon-dazione per le sovra-

strutture previste sul piano banchina (grù portuali, ecc.);• consolidamento del fondale con tecnologia jet-grouting, in corri-spondenza dei casso-ni delle opere di presa e di scarico del circuito di raffreddamento della centrale elettrica Tirre-no Power;• consolidamento del-la testata del molo Pro-gresso con micropali e jet-grouting;• dragaggio ambienta-le dei sedimenti inqui-nati del fondale della darsena; • tra le opere previste in progetto è compresa an-che la realizzazione del nuovo circuito dell’ac-qua di raffreddamento della centrale elettrica Tirreno Power, confi-nante verso terra con la Darsena di Levante, le cui strutture, quali con-

out the second execution stage of the general project for the construction of a new Container Terminal and Sediment Tank in the Port of Naples, in the pre-existing eastern dock. The contractor is the Port Authority of Naples.Construction activities r e l a t i n g t o t h e implementation of the works began in July 2012, while preliminary activities, such as the clearance of explosive r e m n a n t s o f w a r, additional geotechnical investigations and ante-

adjacent, towards the soil, with the eastern dock, whose structures such as pipes and tank intake and discharge systems, will be combined - to a large part - with the structures of the terminal dock.The subsoil of the dock consists of the following l a y e r s ’ s e q u e n c e : anthropogenic backfill used in the construction of the dock and the dam (fill); sandy-silty soils of the bottom (upper sands); lithoid tufa (tufa); sandy soils of the bottom (lower sands).The geotechnical works envisaged in the project, such as the insertion of the sheet piling, foundations w i t h b o r e d p i l e s , confinement diaphragm plastic walls and planned consolidations, reach, in depth, the lithoid tufa layer.Ortensio Rocca, Trevi S.p.A.

operam environmental m o n i t o r i n g , w e r e started from the month of September 2011.A t p r e s e n t , t h e eastern dock, has the following morphological characteristics: variable depth from 7 to 15 m from the average sea level; water surface of approximately 7 ha; back square between the two piers of the dock with a width of 70-77 m, with opposite quay of 250 m; length of the development to the west quay of 250 m, with a width of 70 m (Progress wharf); length of the development of the

quay in the east of 285 m, with a width of 100 m (southern quay).The Terminal will be built by confining and filling the water surface of the dock and the area in the east of the eastern dock (extension of the Terminal which is about 200 m long) with the sediments dredged from the bottom of the port of Naples. For this purpose, the eastern dock must be completely waterproofed to form a sort of “box” with characteristics of permeability equal to K <10-9 m/s on all sides of the perimeter and on the base (no activities are envisaged on the latter by this contract). The filling of the reclaimed land (“cofferdam”) is not covered by this contract and it is still in the planning stage.Activities and works to be executed within the scope

of the contract are:• execution of the combined double-wall made of steel (sheet pile), to be filled with inert material, with sealed joints, driven until reaching the tuff formation that extends for about 20-25 m from the average sea level. The sheet piling is the main part of the supporting structure of the quay; it is 630 m long, with a depth of about 18 m, allowing the berthing of two container vessels with size corresponding to the vast majority of the today containers. This part of the work delimits the seaward tank according to the waterproofing criteria required for the project;• c o n s t r u c t i o n o f plastic diaphragm walls suitable to confine the tank filled according to the waterproofing cr i ter ia se t by the

project (k <10-9 m/s);• construction of bored piles within the main elements of the above mentioned combined double-wall, serving as foundation for the upper superstructures on the dock surface (dock cranes, etc.);• consolidation of the seabed with jet-grouting technology in the areas of the tanks for the intake and discharge of the cooling circuit of the Tirreno Power Plant;• consolidation of the Prog ress pier head with micropiles and jet grouting;• environmental dredging of the contaminated sediments at the bottom of the dock;• among the works covered by the project, there is also the construction of a new cooling water system for the circuit of the TirrenoPower Plant,

“Compensation Grouting Manager”Un approccio innovativo, nato dalla collaborazione fra il Gruppo Trevi ed SWS Engineering, per la realizzazione chiavi in mano di interventi di “compensation grouting”, dalla progettazione, al controllo, gestione ed esecuzione dell’intervento stesso.

La tecnica del “com-pensation grou-

ting” viene applicata per preservare strut-ture “sensibili” da fe-nomeni di subsiden-za, indotti per ragioni naturali o da opera-zioni di scavo. Esem-pi sono la realizzazio-ne di metropolitane o tunnel in vicinanza di edifici. La tecnica del “compensation grou-ting” prevede general-mente l’individuazione di un piano di monito-raggio, la progettazio-ne e la messa in opera di interventi di miti-gazione dei cedimenti attraverso l’iniezione di quantità di miscela cementizia, ad una da-ta pressione ed in un punto specifico.Le tre principali fasi sono:• pre-trattamento – pre-intasamento;• t r a t t a m e n t o preventivo;• trattamento integra-tivo - compensazione.Nel pre-trattamen-to l’iniezione ripetu-ta di miscele crea una lente di terreno conso-lidato, ottenendo così un generale migliora-mento delle proprietà meccaniche del terre-no di fondazione ed un sollevamento control-lato del piano di posa dell’edificio.Previa verifica strut-turale il terreno può quindi essere tratta-to preventivamen-te in modo da ricreare una sorta di “premon-ta” del piano di posa dell’edificio uguale ed opposta alla perdita di volume attesa a segui-to delle operazioni di scavo.

Trattamenti inte-grativi di compen-sazione sono infine richiesti qualora, in fase di scavo, venga-no registrati cedimen-ti oltre i limiti di soglia pre-impostati, consen-tendo il ripristino del-la configurazione ide-ale del piano di posa dell’edificio. Un effica-ce intervento richiede pertanto:• conoscenza della po-sizione e dei parametri di avanzamento della

TBM per poter proce-dere preventivamente alle operazioni di “pre-grouting”;• disponibilità in tem-po reale dei valori di ce-dimento e distorsione misurati sugli edifici;• algoritmi di calco-lo rapidi e automatici per la determinazio-ne di volumi, pres-sioni e posizioni di compensazione;• sistemi di iniezione rapidi e flessibili in gra-do di garantire i volumi

di iniezione nei tempi e modalità di iniezione necessarie.Queste attività, se ese-guite in maniera tra-dizionale, spesso non considerano la forte integrazione necessa-ria fra progettazione, monitoraggio e tra-sformazione dei dati acquisiti in informa-zioni utili a chi si occu-pa della fase esecutiva, rischiando di ingene-rare inefficienze ope-rative che possono au-

mentare tempi e costi dell’intervento.Il cantiere della linea AV nodo di Firenze è stato l’occasione per la nascita di un accor-do di collaborazione reciproca ed esclusi-va tra il Gruppo Tre-vi e la società SWS engineering, al fine di proporsi come una unica entità in grado di fornire un prodot-to completo.L’innovativa piatta-forma “compensation

grouting manager”, è basata sull’impiego di una serie di dispositi-vi di monitoraggio e un software dedica-to che consentono di seguire tutte le fasi dell’intervento, dal-la progettazione, al controllo, alla gestio-ne ed esecuzione del-le iniezioni.Le principali peculia-rità del sistema sono (figura 1):• modellazione e pro-getto dell’intervento;• acquisizione in tem-po reale dei dati di monitoraggio;• valutazione in tem-po reale del comporta-mento della struttura (controllo dei cedimen-ti e distorsioni);• definizione della po-sizione delle valvole da iniettare e dei volumi di iniezione (strategia di iniezione), aggiornan-do per ogni passata di iniezione il rendimento dell’iniezione stessa e la sequenza di iniezione;•interfaccia diretta fra sistema di controllo e centrale di iniezione, in modo da impostare di-rettamente la strategia di iniezione e recupera-re al termine di ogni di ogni fase di iniezione i volumi e le pressioni effettivi;• ottimizzazione della sequenza di pompag-gio per scongiurare ri-tardi negli interventi di compensazione e quin-di potenziali rallenta-menti nelle operazioni di scavo;• memorizzazione ed archivio dei parametri di iniezione.Alessandro Bertero, Trevi Group R&D Project Service

“Compensation Grouting Manager”An innovative approach, developed thanks to the cooperation between the Trevi Group and SWS Engineering, for the turnkey construction of “compensation grouting” interventions, from the design to the control, management and execution of the same intervention.

T he “compensation grouting” technique

is applied to preserve structures that are “sensitive” to the effects of subsidence, caused by natural reasons or digging operations. Examples are the execution of undergrounds or tunnels close to buildings. The “compensation grouting” technique generally involves the identification o f a m o n i t o r i n g plan, the design and implemen tat ion of subsidence mitigation i n t e r v e n t i o n s b y injecting quantities of cement mixture at a given pressure and at a specific point.The three main phases are:• pre-treatment - pre-clogging;• preventive treatment;

• integrative treatment - compensation.In the pre-treatment, the repeated injection of mixtures creates a lens of consolidated soil, thus obtaining a general improvement of the mechanical properties of the foundation soil and a controlled lifting of the laying surface of the building.After having performed a s t r u ct u ra l ch e ck of the soil, it can be th e n t re a te d p re -emptively, in order to create a sort of “pulling over” of the laying of the building that is equal and opposite to the expected loss of volume as a result of excavation operations.A d d i t i o n a l t r e a t m e n t s o f compensation are

ultimately required if, during excavation, subsidence is recorded that is beyond the pre-set threshold limits, allowing the restoration of the ideal configuration of the laying of the building. Therefore, an effective intervention requires:• knowledge of the location and excavation parameters of TBM to proceed, pre-emptively, with the “pre-grouting” operations;• availability of real-time values of failure and distortion measured on buildings;• fast and automatic calculation algorithms for the determination of volumes, pressures, and offsetting positions.• quick and f lexible injection systems able to ensure the injection

volumes in the required timing and mode of injection.These activities, when p e r f o r m e d i n t h e traditional way, often do not consider the required tight integration between planning, monitoring and processing of the acquired data into useful i n fo r m a t i o n m a d e available to those involved in the execution phase, with the risk of causing operational inefficiencies that can increase time and costs of the intervention.The site of the AV line, hub of Florence, was the occasion for the start of a mutual and exclusive collaboration agreement between the Trevi Group and the company SWS engineering, in order to act as a single entity capable of providing a

complete product.The innovative plat-form “compensation grouting manager” is based on the use of a series of monitor-ing devices and a ded-icated software that allow to follow all the operation stag-es, from planning to the control, manage-ment and execution of the injections.The main peculiarities o f th e s y s te m a re (picture 1):• modelling and design of the intervention;• real-time acquisition of monitoring data;• real-time evaluation of the behaviour of the structure (control o f s u b s i d e n ce a n d distortion);• definition of the position of the valves to be

injected and the volume of injection (Injection strategy), updating – for each injection – the efficiency of the injection and the same injection sequence ;• d i re c t i n te r fa ce between the control system and the central injection, so as to directly set the injection strategy and recover, at the end of each injection phase, injection volumes and actual pressures;• o p t i m i z a t i o n o f p u m p i n g s e q u e n c e to avoid dela y s in compensation operations and therefore potential slowdowns during the excavation;• storage and archive of injection parameters.Alessandro Bertero, Trevi Group R&D Project Service

Il tunnel da esegui-re fa parte della re-

te ferroviaria europea ad alta velocità in di-rezione di Roma. Le opere sotterranee so-no costituite da: 6.5 km in doppia galleria scavata con TBM/EPB, un portale nord in zo-na Rifredi, un porta-le sud in zona stazio-ne Campo di Marte (che è anche il pozzo di lancio delle TBM) ed una nuova stazio-ne sotterranea in zo-na Belfiore (figura 2). Il suolo di Firenze è ca-ratterizzato da depo-siti alluvionali etero-genei, argille, sabbie e ghiaie. La falda si pone al di sopra del tunnel

per la maggior parte del tracciato. Il tunnel sottopassa più di 150 edifici, molti dei quali possono essere consi-derati come edifici sto-rici, con una copertura variabile da 6 m a 20 m. Sono state progettate misure attive e passi-ve di protezione per gli edifici esistenti, ponti e manufatti ferroviari. In particolare il siste-ma del “compensation grouting” è stato previ-sto nella zona dell’anti-ca Fortezza Da Basso e nella zona di Ponte al Pino per gli edifici 165 e 166 (figura 3), rite-nuti particolarmente sensibili per due mo-tivi: bassa copertura

Gruppo Trevi L’angolo della tecnologia / Technology cornerdello scavo (6-8 me-tri) e difficoltà di con-trollare il volume per-so di scavo della TBM a così breve distanza dal pozzo di lancio (circa 80 metri).Le perforazioni per la posa delle canne valvo-late sono state e saran-no eseguite con la tec-nica delle perforazioni guidate (directional drilling), in parte da pozzi e in parte da su-perficie (zona Fortez-za da Basso), con lun-ghezze variabili fra 50 e 100 metri. Attualmen-te è stato realizzato un campo prova nella zo-na di Ponte al Pino e sono state completate le fasi di perforazione e posa in opera delle can-ne valvolate ed iniezio-ne di pre-intasamento per gli edifici 165 e 166 (figura 4).

The tunnel to be per-formed is part of the Eu-ropean high-speed rail network in the direc-tion of Rome. The under-ground works consist of: 6.5 km in a twin tunnel excavated with TBM/EPB, a north portal in the Rifredi area, a south portal near the station Campo di Marte (which is also the launch shaft of the TBM) and a new un-derground station in the Belfiore area (Picture 2). The soil of Florence is characterized by hetero-geneous alluvial deposits, clays, sands and gravels.

The layer is placed above the tunnel for most of the layout. The tunnel pass-es under more than 150 buildings, many of which can be considered as his-toric buildings, with a cov-erage ranging from 6 m to 20 m. Active and passive protection measures have been designed for existing buildings, bridges and railway structures. In particular, the “compen-sation grouting” system was envisaged in the ar-ea of the ancient Fortezza Da Basso and in the area of Ponte al Pino for the buildings 165 and 166 (Picture 3), which are considered to be particu-larly sensitive for two rea-sons: low coverage of the excavation (6-8 m) and the difficulty of control-ling the lost volume of excavation of the TBM at such a short distance from the launch shaft (about 80 m).Drilling works for the in-stallation of valved pipes were and will be per-formed with the tech-nique of directional drill-ing, partly from wells and partly from the surface (area Fortezza da Bas-so), with lengths varying between 50 and 100 m. A field test has just been carried out in the area of Ponte al Pino and the drill-ing and installation phas-es of the valved pipes and the pre-clogging injection for the buildings 165 and 166 have been completed (Picture 4).

Mio fratel-lo lavorava lì da qual-che anno; eravamo in tutto una quindicina di persone e il piccolo stabilimento si trovava a Torre del Moro. Si co-struiva l’MT e la mac-china era prodotta qua-si esclusivamente per soddisfare le esigenze dell’impresa, anche se cominciavano ad arri-vare commesse da ter-zi. Nel’69 fu completa-ta la nuova struttura, sorta davvero dal nul-la, perché ricordo che prima su questi terre-ni c’erano solo dei cam-pi di grano.

Silvio Bertaccini’s 40 years at Soilmec have paralleled the development of the company to lead it to be the internationally recognized manufacturer it is today. Before taking leave of the company to begin retirement, he recollected his decades-long adventure.

Con l’introduzione dell’idraulica si comin-ciò a produrre l’RT, cioè la prima rotary: da quel momento fu una vera e propria corsa in avanti che, grazie anche all’im-piego dell’elettronica, ha oggi permesso di arriva-re a livelli di evoluzione delle macchine allora inimmaginabili. Nel tempo sono passato al controllo qualità e poi alla logistica, che, pro-prio a partire dagli an-ni settanta, ha assunto un ruolo sempre più im-portante, vista la conti-nua internazionaliz-zazione dell’azienda. Il mio lavoro mi è sempre piaciuto e l’ho svolto an-che con grande passio-ne; un po’ per carattere e un po’ perché l’azienda

attraverso la proprietà, primo fra tutti lo stes-so Cavaliere (il fondato-re Davide Trevisani), ha sempre creato un gran-de senso di apparte-nenza che, nonostante le dimensioni del Grup-po, credo sia ancora un elemento distintivo.Sono sempre rimasto affascinato dal fatto che si andasse sempre avanti, e lo si facesse da tutti i punti di vista; ba-sti dire che ho vissuto quarant’anni in fabbri-ca senza mai vedere un incidente grave, nono-stante negli stabilimenti si movimentassero con-tinuamente elementi di carpenteria metallica di grandi dimensioni e si eseguissero lavorazio-ni di meccanica pesan-

te. Per chi davvero se ne intende di produzione industriale, basterebbe anche solo questa con-siderazione per capire il successo del marchio e del prodotto. In ogni caso mi ritengo fortunato, perché ho passato un lunghissimo periodo della mia vita in un’azienda che mi ha da-to molto, ma che mi ha anche permesso di da-re molto, sul piano pro-fessionale ed umano; se tornassi indietro sono certo che rifarei lo stes-so percorso”.

“I came on board the company on Janua-

ry 2nd 1967 as a lathe tur-ner in what at the time was Pali Trevisani. My brother had been wor-

king there for a few years. In total there were about 15 of us working at the small plant located in the Torre del Moro quarter of Cesena. The MT was the machine being construc-ted then; it was produced almost exclusively to me-et the company’s needs, although orders from the outside started to co-me in. In 1969, the new factory was completed, built from scratch in an area I remember that on-ly contained wheat fields. When hydraulics were in-troduced, we started pro-ducing the RT, the first ro-tary. From that moment on, it was a an onward rush of development that allowed Soilmec, thanks also to electro-nics, to achieve levels of

innovation in the machi-nery considered unima-ginable then. Over time, I went on to work in qua-lity control and then logi-stics, which took on mo-re and more importance starting in the 1970s as a result of the company’s internationalization. I’ve always enjoyed my job and have been passiona-te about performing my work, not only because it’s my basic nature, but also because the company through its ownership, particularly il Cavaliere (founder Davide Trevi-sani) instilled a sense of belonging that remains a distinctive characteri-stic today despite the size of the Group. For me, it was always very exciting to be forging ahead, and that meant in every sin-gle aspect. I worked 40 ye-ars in the factory without ever witnessing a serious accident even though hu-ge pieces of structural ste-el were being handled, not to mention heavy machi-ning and metalworking. For anyone who is fami-liar with industrial pro-duction, that in itself is enough to understand the success of the brand and the product. When all is said and do-ne, I consider myself lu-cky because I spent a long period of my life working for a company that gave me a great deal, but that also allowed me to give a lot of myself on both a professional and perso-nal level. Looking back, I’d do the same thing all over again.”

Claudio Cicognani, the President, opened the meeting retracing the exceptional growth of the company from the beginning until now, underling as well, that everything has been made and will be made thanks to the Agents effort.The floor was given to the Vice President Sales, Dr. Stefano Angeli, who presented the new Branches inaugurated in the last two years, illustrated last year results and current estimates fo r t h e y e a r. He

showcased the biggest successes so far in the year and stressed the importance of consol idating the b u s i n e s s i n t h e Offshore industr y segment. After Mr Angeli’s speech, Area managers presented the latest news about Drillmec products.The meeting agenda also included a guided tour through the factory, a visit to HH simulator, as well as a demonstration on how the DMS system works, moreover it has been given the possibility to get on a 2000 HP rig floor under rig up.The remarkable meeting ended in Piacenza countryside at the Rivalta Castle where all the Drillmec’s dealers and representatives enjoyed a gourmet gala dinner.These two days have been strongly pursued to promote a proper team spirit among our dealers, making the exchange of ideas an essential cultural element of Company development. Il mercato offshore si sta sviluppando

ad un ritmo incredibil-mente veloce, e Dril-lmec fa il suo ingresso con le credenziali giu-ste - know-how, capa-cità produttive, innova-zione tecnologica – in questo segmento estre-mamente interessante. Drillmec sta anche svi-luppando il “top side” di un “semi-submersible” per un nuovo pacchet-to di perforazione per il mercato russo, che se-gna un’altra pietra milia-re per la sua espansione in questo contesto.L ’e d i z i o n e 2 0 1 3 dell’OTC (Offshore Technology Conferen-ce) nel mese di maggio è stata l’occasione per-fetta per Drillmec per mostrare il pacchetto appena creato a po-tenziali clienti e spie-garne gli aspetti in-novativi e i vantaggi principali del prodotto. Questi nuovi impianti di perforazione offsho-re sono stati concepiti per rispondere ad un bisogno diverso del mercato offshore delle Americhe. Più in generale, l’indu-stria offshore in tutto il mondo è alla ricerca di vari modi per mi-gliorare l’installazione dei pacchetti di perfo-razione offshore. Da-ta la recente crescente enfasi su permessi, cer-tificazioni e sicurezza, che spesso rallentano il processo soprattut-to nel Golfo del Mes-sico dopo l’incidente

di Macondo, è più im-portante che mai che la piattaforma offsho-re venga installata nel-la modalità più veloce e sicura possibile. Oltre a quanto appena descritto, le piattafor-me offshore devono solitamente ricorrere a tradizionali gru gal-leggianti per il solle-vamento di macro mo-duli, che spesso non sono disponibili in tempi brevi. Con que-sto in mente, Drillmec ha sviluppato queste piattaforme modula-ri per la perforazione, che non fanno uso di gru galleggianti, al fi-ne di risolvere questo problema. Questi im-pianti sono progetta-ti e costruiti in modu-li in modo che i moduli possano essere instal-lati da gru operative degli impianti di per-forazione, con l’ausilio di alcune gru tempora-nee. Dal momento che perforeranno nel Golfo del Messico in una zo-na estremamente atti-va e molto affollata ad Ayatsil, accanto a Ciu-dad del Carmen, è an-cora più cruciale che l’installazione avven-ga in modo rapido e si-curo. L’elevato numero di micro moduli leggeri in queste piattaforme modulari per la per-forazione semplifica il processo di installa-zione, fornendo inoltre il vantaggio di una di-stribuzione uniforme del peso anche sul pon-te della piattaforma.

Questo è solamente l’inizio di un merca-to offshore che si sta diversificando ed am-pliando, con occhio vi-gile alle normative, ai costi di rischio e alla gestione del tempo. Dopo aver studiato at-tentamente i riscontri sul mercato, Drillmec ha con tutta probabi-lità trovato una solu-zione innovativa per semplificare il proces-so di installazione ta-gliando inoltre i costi, tramite un design uni-co ed affidabile in gra-do di soddisfare le esi-genze dei suoi clienti.

The offshore market is developing at an

incredibly fast pace, and Drillmec has entered it with strong credentials - know-how, manufactu-ring capacity, technical innovation - in this ex-tremely attractive area. On top of this, Drillmec is also developing a new semi-submersible top side drilling rig package for the Russian market, marking another mile-stone for its expansion to this arena.The 2013 of the OTC (Offshore Technology Conference) in May was the perfect opportunity for Drillmec to show the newly designed package to potential customers and explain the innova-tive aspects and main ad-vantages of the product. These new platform rigs intend to respond to a different need of the current North and

South American offsho-re market. More in general, the of-fshore industry around the world is looking for various ways to improve the installation of the of-fshore drilling packages. Given the recent increa-sed emphasis on permits, certifications and safety, often extremely time consuming, especially in the Gulf of Mexico, after the Macondo incident, it is more crucial than ever that the offshore pla-tform gets installed in the quickest and safest way possible. On top of the elements just described, offshore rigs have to rely on tra-ditional derrick barge cranes that are often not readily available to lift these drilling units onto the platforms. With this in mind, Drillmec deve-loped its Offshore Mo-dules Platform Drilling Rigs, which do not ne-ed to be equipped with these derrick barge cra-nes, in order to win this challenge. These rigs are designed and built in modules so that the mo-dules can be installed by the drilling rigs’ opera-tional cranes, with the help of one set of tem-porary cranes. Since they will be drilling in the Gulf of Mexico in an extremely active and densely crowded area in Ayatsil, just next to Ciu-dad del Carmen, fast and safe installation is crucial. International (WDI), the drilling division o f W e a t h e r f o r d Inter nat ional , one of the largest oilfield ser vices companies operating in more than 100 countries with more than 50,000 people worldwide, has won a contract with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to drill deep oil wells in the state of Kuwait. WDI has chosen Drillmec as its supplier for the 3000 HP land rig package with very elaborated e q u i p m e n t a n d components. The project has to be executed in less than eleven months including engineering, p r o c u r e m e n t , manufacturing and testing. Drillmec S.p.A, a s a n e x p e r i e n ce d manufacturer and rig

builder in the oilfield, is taking in charge all the project aspects including engineering, d e v e l o p m e n t a n d project coordination. The package will be built in compliance with the Oil company’s needs and performance c o n s t r a i n t s w h i l e respecting all the HSE aspects . T he 3000 HP that Drillmec is building is a recently d e s i g n e d l a n d r i g that comb ines the conventional drilling methods’ simplicity with the most recent t e c h n o l o g i e s t o guarantee safety and h i g h p e r fo r m a n ce. This marriage could be achieved only by a continuous R&D. Automation and remote control are one of the fundamentals that Drillmec applies to the conventional rigs

in order to limit the accidents’ risk, keep the drilling personnel safe during operations and guarantee high p e r fo r m a n c e . T h e dr i l ler ’s cabin, for instance is a safe a n d c o m f o r t a b l e environment for the driller who can control and monitor all rig’s maneuvers without getting exposed to rotating or dropped objects. The power catwalk guarantees fast and safe pipe handling while limiting accidents risk. Many o t h e r e q u i p m e n t like power slips, top dr ive, power tong , gas detection sensors and video monitoring system are all used and managed together through sophisticated software and sensor technology to keep the driller and rig manager in a constant control of the rig’s operations. Nevertheless design a n d t e c h n o l o g y application are not the only winning cards that can make a difference. Nowadays it is essential to have a proper project management that can secure the contract’s exe c u t ion on t ime and a budget with the lowest impact on HSE. The current project is nothing than another concrete example of success ful projects tha t D r i l l m e c ha s executed in the last decade. This result comes from the right project management and the quality control tha t D r i l l m e c ha s implemented and keeps improving up to this day.

Le aste di perforazione “range 2” vengono conservate in posizione orizzonta-le su due semirimorchi. Le sequenze di entrata e uscita consentono il loro spostamento al centro del pozzo con una tecnologia di con-trollo basata su PLC preimpostato. Il ma-nipolatore composto di due bracci e pinze è installato sul lato della torre mentre un ascen-sore solleva le aste. Quest’ultimo è inte-grato nel semirimor-

chio ed ha una capacità massima di carico pari a 2.500 kg. Il caricato-re delle aste è anche in grado di misurare lun-ghezza e il peso delle aste di perforazione e tutte le informazioni sono inviate al centro di controllo PLC. L’in-grassaggio del filetto è automatico.192 aste di perforazione sono posizionate su due semirimorchi; un terzo semirimorchio può es-sere fornito su richiesta e può sostituirne uno vuoto. Gli astoni e i tu-bi di rivestimento pozzo sono posizionati su di un parco aste semplice. Anch’essi vengono tra-sferiti idraulicamen-te verso l’area di lavo-ro e presi in carico dal manipolatore.La cabina è dotata di

una “cyber-chair” e di un ulteriore PLC ridon-dante. Tutti i comandi sono elettronici anzi-ché idraulici o pneuma-tici: ciò permette la rac-colta di dati in maniera estremamente precisa. In aggiunta, una ridu-zione filettata WeCatt di McCoy può misura-re senza fili la torsione e il numero di giri del-la batteria. Il sistema di controllo dell’impianto si integra con il softwa-re SCADA del cliente attraverso un’interfac-cia uomo-macchina. Il sistema di acquisizio-ne dati DMS Drillmec visualizza i gli allarmi e gli avvisi relativi ai pa-rametri del rig.La centralina idrauli-ca è separata dal semi-rimorchio e si muove insieme alla cabina. of drilling both vertical and slant up to 45° in steps of 5°. The slant capability is mainly needed to reach shallow reservoir. All loads are wheels mounted or jack up mounted to aim fast moving. The new design will allow to lift or move the rig with the minimal lifting equipment. No big cranes are necessary. As well, pilot or escort are not required, only road permits are applicable on a yearly basis. The main purpose was to enhance the automation of the drilling set and to reduce the number of people working on the rig. Pipes, range 2, are stored horizontally on two semitrailers. Trip in and trip out sequences move them to the well centre using preset PLC based control technology. Pipe handler with two grabbing arms, is installed on the mast side whereas the pipe lifter is integrated in the first pipe trailer. The maximum loading capacity is 2500 kgs. The Pipe loader will measure also the length and the weight of drill the pipe and send information to PLC. Pipe connection d o p i n g i s a n o th e r automatic task. A total number of 192 drill pipes are stored on two semitrailers. A third semitrailer can be supplied on request and can replace an empty one. Drill collar and casing are laid on a flat rack. Hydraulic transfer is suitable to move single joint of casing and collar to the pipe loader working area.The cabin is equipped with a cyber-chair and redundant PLC. to negli ultimi anni, il business dell’off-shore gode di forti potenziali di crescita: l’ennesima conferma si è avuta con il consolidato succes-so riscontrato dall’ulti-ma edizione dell’OMC (Offshore Mediterra-nean Conference) tenu-tasi a Ravenna dal 20 al 22 Marzo, il più impor-tante evento nazionale nell’ambito dell’Oil&Gas industry off-shore.L’OMC 2013 ha attira-to oltre 13.700 parte-cipanti da 32 nazioni, dimostrando un incre-mento del 31% rispet-to al 2011: un chiaro segno che la fiera di Ra-venna, arrivata alla sua undicesima edizione, si conferma come uno dei più importanti punti di incontro per gli operato-ri del settore. It is commonly known, especially in recent years

that the offshore business has a strong growth potential. The consolidated success is confirmed by the last edition of the OMC (Offshore Meditarrean Conference, March 20th –22th) which was the most important national event within the Offshore Oil&Gas Industry. The OMC has attracted in 2013 over 13,700 participants coming from 32 different countries (showing an increase of 31% compared to 2011). This eleventh edition of the Exhibition in Ravenna is one of the most important meeting places for all the operators in the sector. Moreover, 8 delegations from many countries have participated in the OMC: Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Iraq, Libya, Mozambique, Norway and Pakistan. The performing area, consisted of 20.500 square meters, was divided among conference rooms, exhibitions and workshops outdoor area.The exhibition has been successful because of the strong presence of

national and international exhibitors. A total number of 570 companies from more than 30 countries displayed their products and introduced the latest innovations in the industry. Drillmec had a stand divided into two areas: one indoor and one outdoor in which it was exposed the HH75, one of the hydraulic machines flagship.Many visitors from all over the world visited the Drillmec’s stand. As per the previous edition Drillmec has organized guided tours of the Rig to describe and underline all its characteristics. Despite of the bad weather visitors were numerous and worthwhile. The HH-75 which is the smallest model in the series HH, has received remarkable interest from visitors because of its skid mounted characteristic and its faster moving around the yard compared to the competitors. Moreover, this type of machine, if properly set up can also operate on offshore platforms as Drillmec has already done in Congo with Perenco workover project. The theme that has entirely driven this eleventh edition has been well summed up by the motto “Charting a course in changing sea”. cità e le tecnologie mes-se in campo e mette a segno un nuovo record di perforazione. Sia-mo in Argentina, dove l’impianto di perfora-zione H-105 della serie HH-102 Drillmec ha raggiunto la profondità misurata di 2.455 metri (8.054 ft).La perforazione è stata eseguita su commessa della compagnia YPF nel giacimento Agua-da Toledo nel distretto petrolífero di Neuquén perforando il pozzo AT-166. In questa occasione la perforatice ha supera-to il record di profondità per la serie HH-102 rag-giungendo la profondità di 2.455 metri senza ri-scontrare problemi, per-forando con un bottom hole assembly per pozzi di diametro da 8,5 pol-lici ma con una batteria di aste da 3,5 pollici che ha permesso di avere un peso al gancio di 73 tonnellate lasciando un margine di overpool di circa 27 tonnellate. Nel tratto intermedio fino a 1.000 metri di profondi-tà è stato impiegato l’in-novativo casing drilling, metodo di perforazione che permette di rispar-miare nella tempistica perforando e rivesten-do il pozzo allo stesso tempo. Importante è riconoscere l’ottimo la-voro eseguito da tutto il personale impegna-to direttamente in can-tiere, al personale della manutenzione ed alla efficace superviosne sia da parte di Petreven che del cliente.

In Argentina, t h e H - 1 0 5 S e r i e s H H - 1 0 2 D r i l l m e c rig has reached the depth of 2,455 meters (8,054 ft).Drilling was performed on order of the company YPF, in the reservoir Aguada Toledo, in the oil district of Neuquén, and precisely into the well AT-166. On this occasion, the drill rig exceeded the depth record for the series HH-102, reaching a depth of 2,455 meters without encountering p ro b l e m s; d r i l l i n g wa s p e r fo r m e d b y means of a bottom h o l e a s s e m b l y fo r wells with a diameter of 8.5 inches, but with a 3.5-inch drill string that allowed to have a weight of 73 tons on the hook which left an overpool margin of about 27 tons. In the intermediate section up to 1,000 meters of depth, the innovative casing drilling method w a s e m p l o y e d ; i t allowed cutting down t ime s s ince i t ca n perform well drilling and casing at the same time. It’s important to acknowledge the excellent work carried out by the whole staff directly involved in the job site as well as the maintenance personnel a n d t h e e f f e c t i v e supervision performed both by Petreven and the customer.

Si è svolto ad inizio gennaio il Long Term General Management Master (GMP) al quale hanno preso parte una ventina di manager Soilmec, anche di società estere. Organizzato dall’FTA, in collaborazione con la società di consulenza direzionale PD FOR, il corso si proponeva di sviluppare le com-petenze per affrontare al meglio un ruolo di crescente managerialità.

The Long Term General Management Master (GMP) took place at the beginning of January and was attended by about twenty Soilmec managers, also from foreign companies. The course, organized by FTA, in collaboration with the management consulting firm PD FOR, was aimed at developing the skills to better address a role of increasing managerial capabilities.

The Trevi Group has always shown a real interest and direct involvement with regard to the research of drinking water as well as the restoration of abandoned wells and the training of the local population to keep them productive. The Trevi Group has been operating in Africa since 1967, and for a few years it has been now directly involved, through its Social Value, in the project “Water for Life”, which aims at alleviating the urgent need of drinking water.

On the 21st of February, a hundred years ago, Mario Vicini, the unforgettable cycling champion of the ‘30s and ‘40s, was born in Martorano, Cesena. In the article the nephew remembers the famous grandfather.

Furono questi i primi allenamenti di Mario Vicini che, una volta, arrivò a raggiun-gere il padre addirittu-ra a Pescara dove si te-neva un mercato.Iniziata la carriera da di-lettante non tardarono ad arrivare le prime vit-torie che, via via sempre più numerose, lo porta-rono negli anni successi-vi a tentare il gran salto nel professionismo. De-buttò al Giro d’Italia del 1936 al 17° posto finale in classifica e, soprattut-to, 2° tra gli isolati (cor-ridori senza squadra).Il 1937 inizia male: la fortuna gli volta le spalle sia alla Milano-Sanremo (rottura del cambio quando era tra i primi), sia al Giro (ca-de fratturandosi la cla-vicola quando era nei primi dieci).Nonostante tutto si ri-prende e, vendendo due medaglie d’oro vin-te da dilettante, riesce a finanziarsi la partecipa-zione al Tour de France. Con una scelta coraggio-sa decide infatti di cor-rere ancora una volta come isolato (organiz-zando da solo viaggio, alberghi e attrezzatura e non potendo contare in corsa sull’aiuto di nessu-no), per non dover stare al servizio di Bartali che sarebbe stato suo capi-

tano nella squadra ita-liana, dove pure era sta-to ammesso.Dopo un non incorag-giante 45° posto nel-la prima tappa (prima foratura sull’insidioso pavè francese), inizia rapidamente a scalare posizioni e, a soli 24 an-ni, s’impone all’atten-zione del grande pubbli-co per il temperamento coraggioso e generoso. I giornalisti iniziano a soprannominarlo “il diavolo rosso” per le sue doti di scalatore che emergono in tappe du-rissime comprendenti l’Izoard e l’Aubisque, tra l’entusiasmo crescente di tutta l’Italia sportiva specie dopo il ritiro di Bartali.In salita Vicini è sempre tra i primi e, nonostan-te una discutibile pena-lizzazione che andrà a favore del corridore di casa Lapebie (vincitore finale, tra l’altro ripetu-tamente trainato dalle

macchine della giuria e dalle spinte dal pubbli-co), arriva ad indossa-re temporaneamente la maglia gialla. Come ri-corda magnificamente e con dovizia di partico-lari Dino Pieri in “Uomi-ni in bicicletta”, fu que-sto un risultato davvero incredibile consideran-do l’assenza di una squa-dra, la non conoscenza del percorso e della lin-gua, la necessità di do-ver organizzare ogni co-sa da solo e le ben undici forature a cui provvede-re da sé con inevitabili ritardi. Nelle tappe suc-cessive Vicini si mantie-ne sempre nelle posizio-ni di testa, terminando il Tour al secondo posto nella classifica generale e naturalmente primo tra gli isolati. Il rientro a Cesena, dopo un me-se, fu trionfale e l’exploit al Tour gli valse un con-tratto con la Lygie.Nel 1938 vince in gran-de stile il Giro di Tosca-

na rifilando 11 minuti a Guerra e addirittura 18 a Bartali, che sarà suo grande amico ed estima-tore. Al Giro di quell’an-no ottiene subito una vittoria alla 2a tappa conquistando anche la maglia rosa, ma ancora una volta è sfortunato e deve ritirarsi a causa di una caduta in disce-sa. Al Tour è invece 6°, segnalandosi anche per l’aiuto dato a Bartali suo capitano.Nel 1939 si classifica 3° al Giro e soprattutto è Campione Italiano: è il primo corridore roma-gnolo a laurearsi cam-pione nazionale tra i professionisti.Nel 1940, tra gli altri ri-sultati, vince due tap-pe consecutive al Giro concludendo al 4° posto finale.A 27 anni è nel pieno della sua maturità ago-nistica, ma lo scoppio della seconda guerra mondiale tronca di fat-

to la sua carriera; con-tinuerà a correre nel dopoguerra come grega-rio di Fausto Coppi (col quale stringerà un for-te legame come già con Bartali), continuando a cogliere piazzamenti di rilievo nonostante l’età matura.Al ritiro dalle corse ini-zia la sua attività come imprenditore, dappri-ma con un piccolo nego-zio e poi con la fabbrica “Vicini”, le cui biciclet-te ricordano ancora og-gi il suo nome grazie al lavoro di figli e nipoti. Sportif he could have joined them.After a not encouraging 45th place in the first stage (he had to mend his first hole on the insidious French pave), he quickly began to climb positions and, at just 24 years, he drew the attention of the general public for his brave and generous temperament. Journalists started to nickname him “the red devil” for his skills as a climber that emerged in harsh stages, including the Izoard and the Aubisque, among the growing enthusiasm of all Italian sport lovers, especially after the withdrawal of Bartali.When riding uphill, Vicini was always among the first and, despite a questionable penalty that favored the French rider Lapebie (the final winner, who, among other things, was repeatedly towed by cars driven by the jury and by the thrusts from the audience) he got to temporarily wear the yellow shirt. As it is beautifully recalled, in great details, by Dino Pieri in his “Men in bicycle”, this result was truly amazing considering the absence of a team, the lack of knowledge of the route and the language, the need to organize everything alone and the eleven holes in his tires which he sorted out alone, hence causing inevitable delays. In the following stages, Vicini always remained in the first positions, finishing the tour in the second place in the overall standings and, of course, as the first among isolates. At his return to Cesena, after a month away, he was triumphant and his exploit at the Tour earned him a contract with Lygie.In 1938 he won in style the Giro di Toscana,

with an advantage of 11 minutes on Guerra and up to 18 minutes on Bartali, who will always be his great friend and admirer. At the Giro, that year, he immediately won the second stage, even winning the pink shirt, but once again, he was unlucky and he had to pull out due to a fall while riding downhill. At the Tour, instead, he ranked 6th, distinguishing himself for the help given to Bartali, his captain.In 1939, he placed 3rd at the Giro and, especially, he was an Italian Champion: he was the first Romagna cyclist to become national c h a m p i o n a m o n g professionals.In 1940, among other achievements, he won two successive stages in the Giro, finishing in the 4th place.At 27 he was in his full competitive maturity, but the outbreak of World War II ended his career; he continued to run after the war as wingman of Fausto Coppi (with whom he developed a very tight friendship, just like with Bartali), and continued to seize leading placements despite his mature age.When he retired from racing, he began his career as an entrepreneur, first with a small shop and then with the factory “Vicini”, whose bikes still remind us of his name thanks to the work of his sons and grandchildren. sia, 19 Gennaio 2013. Per gli ortodos-si, è il giorno del bat-tesimo di Gesù e fare il bagno nel fiume è di buon auspicio per l’an-no che verrà. Spesso-re di 35 cm di ghiaccio sul fiume, -13 gradi... con grande spirito di sacrificio, il direttore e vice direttore di Sei-smotekhnika (Mr Oleg Alapiev and Mr Miche-le Bruzzi) si sono im-molati, in coppia, per il bene della nuova so-cietà o… per mancanza di cognizione?

Il mio romanzo è intitolato “Sei uno zero”, ed è uscito pochi giorni fa per L’Erudita, una

piccola casa editrice di Roma. Si tratta del mio esordio letterario, anche se non è il mio primo romanzo scritto in assoluto (ne ho un altro, an-cora inedito). Fino ad ora ho pubblicato alcuni racconti in raccolte di giovani autori e partecipa-to con discreto successo ad alcuni concorsi let-terari nazionali.“Sei uno zero” è un romanzo di narrativa, am-bientato dietro le quinte del mondo della mu-sica. I suoi tre protagonisti sono infatti un pro-duttore discografico in crisi di credibilità, un cantante mediocre tossico e disperato e un mu-sicista geniale, ma affetto da un handicap che gli impedisce di essere l’immagine patinata che il pubblico pretende dalle rockstar. M y novel is titled “You’re a zero”, and it was

released a few days ago by Erudita, a small publishing house in Rome. It’s my literary debut, although it is not the first novel I wrote (I have written another one, but it is still unpublished). So far, I published several short stories in collections of young authors and I took part, with some success, in some national literary contests.“You’re a zero” is a fiction novel, set behind the scenes of the music world. As a matter of fact, its three main characters are: a record producer undergoing a crisis of credibility, a mediocre singer, who is a drug addict and desperate, and a brilliant musician, but with a disability that prevents him from showing the glossy image that the public expects from a rock star. The three people are trapped in a spiral where music, drugs and blackmailing are intertwined. All this happens in Milan that is depicted as being constantly dark and rainy.Gabriel Mariani, RCT
