Doctor of Transformational Leadership PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Doctor of Transformational Leadership (DTL) is a 40-credit degree program designed to enhance the leadership skills of individuals engaged in urban leadership. The degree program is appropriate for pastors, parachurch leaders, urban leaders, educators, and missionally-minded business leaders. The DTL is distinct from the PhD or ThD in that its primary focus is on implementing and strengthening effective ministry, rather than preparing the participant for research or teaching in purely academic arenas. BGU follows the medical model of preparing doctors for surgery in the operating room. At BGU the cities are the labs, and practitioners teach the class. The DTL degree is structured around developing Transformational Leadership for the Global City. BAKKE GRADUATE UNIVERSITY’S FOCUS Bakke Graduate University (BGU) looks beyond itself to embody the commonly-held vision of an international network. BGU serves and is served by this global network of urban leaders and partners. BGU’s vision includes the following key components: 1. Emerging and Experienced Transformational Leaders 2. Whole Gospel, Whole Church, Whole World 3. The City is Our Classroom 4. Experiential and Peer Learning BGU’S MISSION STATEMENT Bakke Graduate University strengthens leaders who steward resources with and for vulnerable people and places, by means of contextual, Christian- based education innovatively delivered throughout the urban world. We are pleased to offer a robust Doctor of Transformational Leadership degree program focused on transformational leadership for the global city. These few words, ‘transformational,’ ‘global,’ and ‘city’ mean a great deal to us. We are convinced that Christian leaders today need to understand the realities of ministry in difficult places, where clashing cultures, diverse peoples, and unjust systems converge. The rapidly growing cities of our world are the most profound human laboratories of our time, and we believe Christians need to be there, present and fully engaged. Whether you serve in a rural or urban setting, you are living and leading in a complex world impacted by globalization. I highly recommend that you consider this program for your life of leadership and learning. “Through God’s grace I am making a signi!cant contribution to insure there are no women and children on the mean streets of Skid Row . . . I was not quite prepared nor did I have everything I needed to take this great challenge on until I came to BGU. BGU has helped me better understand my role as a transformational servant leader, and I am not only con!dent in taking on the task ahead of me, but I have a group of fellow students in my cohort providing friendship and encouragement along the way.”
