It is our goal here at Dulwich International High School Zhuhai to provide an outstanding academic, linguistic and cultural preparation for life and study outside of China. We recognise that each student has different needs and we are sufficiently flexible to help each individual child achieve their personal goals. We understand that gaining a place at a university overseas is the main goal of all students who enter Dulwich Zhuhai. Where we excel however, is not only in placing students in overseas universities, but more importantly, in preparing them to succeed when they arrive.

Our IGCSE curriculum is the first step towards achieving this goal. IGCSE is a stand-alone qualification that thoroughly prepares students for the academic rigour required at A Level and beyond. We believe we offer a curriculum that is both broad in appeal while at the same time built around the strengths of our students. For learners, the IGCSE qualification helps improve performance by developing skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving. It is the perfect springboard to advanced study. Our IGCSE curriculum is delivered in English by highly experienced and qualified teachers from western education systems who are all experts in the IGCSE subjects they teach.

All IGCSE students are encouraged to take full advantage of the broad range of co-curricular activities we offer. The Duke of Edinburgh International Award, The Stanford Online Courses and the ICSMS International Music Festival are just a small selection of the opportunities on offer. We also encourage all IGCSE students to become involved in community service and develop their compassion and empathy for others. Life as an IGCSE student at Dulwich is very demanding, however, it is also extremely rewarding for those who are prepared to work hard and seize the opportunity.

Students at Dulwich International High School Zhuhai follow a similar academic curriculum to students in the UK. This does not mean that they can only attend UK universities - IGCSEs and A-Levels are accepted by all of the world’s leading universities - but it does mean that they are accessing a curriculum which has a proven track record in producing high quality graduates.

At the heart of the curriculum is a focus on developing critical thinking skills and creativity. Furthermore, whilst written exams have a role to play, IGCSE also involves assessment through other means, such as practical examinations in science or composition work in music. The nature of our curriculum and lessons means that, unlike many Chinese high school students, Dulwich students are ideally prepared for life at international universities.

All our IGCSE exams are approved by either Cambridge International or Edexcel examination boards. Both these institutions are world leaders in the field of UK and International education.

For the majority of our students we believe that the Four Year programme is more appropriate. It allows students more time to develop their English language skills and identify their passions, leaving them better placed to secure acceptances into the most competitive universities overseas.

For a small number of students the Fast Track course may be a better option. However, due to the enormous pressure and difficulty of completing IGCSE study in one year, only students who already possess outstanding English skills and a very strong academic pedigree will be allowed to pursue the Fast Track option.

Priority for the Fast Track course will be given to students who have already completed grade 10 in a Chinese high school.

IGCSE students at Dulwich are able to follow a broad curriculum based on a combination of core subjects alongside their own interests.

The subjects above are compulsory for all students in Year 10, regardless of whether they are Four Year or Fast Track. In Year 11 students must continue with PE but no longer study ICT or community service. Students can opt to continue studying Drama in Year 11 but it is no longer compulsory.

Due to the reduced time available to Fast Track students, their options are slightly narrower. They must select any 3 subjects from the table below.

The majority of students will study five IGCSE option subjects from the table below. They must select two subjects from the Science column and one subject from each of the other three columns.

Students who score below 60% on the English entrance exam will take only four optional subjects (no ‘additional’ choice) and receive 3 extra hours of English language lessons each week instead.

德威高中的学生学习的 IGCSE 和 A-Level 国际课程，等同于英国中学生的中学课程。但这不意味着他们只能申请英国的大学，IGCSE 和 A-Level 的资格全球大学均认可，包括英国、美国、加拿大、澳大利亚、香港、新加坡在内的 160 多个国家，含剑桥、牛津、哈佛、耶鲁、香港大学在内的顶尖大学几乎都接受该课程的考试成绩。

课程核心是培养批判式思考和创新能力。在 IGCSE 考试里，除了笔试作为主要的测评方式外，考试也包括其它形式，比如自然科学的操作实验和音乐的编曲等。课程的考核模式决定了德威的学生不仅仅只会做题，也同时具备深受西方大学重视的多种实践能力。

学校课程已获得剑桥国际考试委员会和 Edexcel 国际考试委员会授权。两者都是全球尤其是英国教育界里受到广泛认可的权威考试机构。

绝大多数的中国学生更适合 4 年制课程模式，这种模式可以确保学生有充分的时间提高其英语能力，并找到自己的专长，以便在申请大学时更具竞争力。

少数学生可以选择 3 年制课程模式，鉴于一年时间内完成 IGCSE 的学习的难度和压力均较大，所以入读条件相对严格，只有英文能力和学科学习能力本身比较强的学生才能选择 3年制课程模式。

完成国内普通高中一年级的学生可优先考虑 3年制课程模式。

英语语言课程是 10 年级到 12 年级学生的必修科目。

10 年级的全体学生学习相同的英语课程，此阶段的目

的是提高他们说、听、读、写四方面的技能。11 年级

的学生会根据他们的能力，在以下课程中选择其中一

门来学习：

• IGCSE 英语作为第一语言

• IGCSE 英语作为第二语言

四年制的学生会在11年级的夏季参加 IGCSE的考试，

而三年制学生则会在 10 年级的夏季参加考试。

学习 IGCSE 英语课程有两大优势：第一它给学生提供

了一个提高英语的知识结构；第二它被全球大学认可

并接受为英语水平的认证。只要获得英语第一语言为

C 以上的成绩，即可被大学接收。即使是英语为第二

语言的成绩，无需雅思或托福成绩的情况下也被许多

大学认可。对于某些需要雅思或托福成绩申请签证的

学生，学校的 12 年级课程确保在学年结束时，学生

能掌握足够好的英语能力，轻松应对雅思或托福考试。

因此，学生无需过早报名参加这类考试。

IGCSE 英语第一语言和第二语言课程包含四大技能训

练，即听、说、读、写，训练学生在正式和非正式场

合中更自信地使用英语。

对于那些英语水平更高的学生，我们还提供英语文学

作为选修课之一。但是只有在入学考试成绩获得 70%

以上的学生才能选修此课程。

须知：入学考试成绩低于 60% 的学生每周会多上 3

小时的补充英语课，以代替其第五个选修科目。

Therefore, we insist that all our lessons are conducted in English. Furthermore, students are required to speak in English in all classrooms and corridors throughout the day.

English language lessons are compulsory for all students in Years 10 to 13. In Year 10 all students follow the same English curriculum which is aimed at developing their skills in the four key areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. At the start of Year 11 students then pursue one of the following courses dependent upon their ability. • IGCSE English as a First Language (EFL) syllabus• IGCSE English as a Second Language (ESL) syllabus.

Students sit their IGCSE English exam in the summer of Year 12 whilst FT students sit the exam in summer of Year 11.

There are two main benefits of studying the IGCSE English curriculum; firstly, it provides an excellent framework for students to improve their English skills. Secondly, it is recognised by universities around the world as proof of English proficiency. Students who achieve a C grade in IGCSE EFL will be able to access practically any university in the world. Even the ESL is recognized by many universities, meaning no need for an IELTS/TOEFL

score. As some students will require IELTS/TOEFL scores for visa entries, however, Year 13 is dedicated to providing our students with the skills and ability they need to sit any of these examinations so there is no need to sit the IELTS/TOEFL examinations until the students are ready at the end of Year 12.

Both the ESL and EFL courses focus on the 4 key skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, and are designed to enable students to become confident in their use of English in both formal and informal settings.

For students who join us with an already high level of English language ability, there is also the opportunity to study English Literature as one of their IGCSE option subjects. However, this option is only available to students who score more than 70% on the Entrance examination.

Note: Students who score below 60% on the Entrance examination receive 3 additional hours of English lessons each week instead of studying a fifth IGCSE option subject.

Course ContentStudents study a range of mathematical and statistical areas. These include, but are not limited to: percentages, ratio, proportion and rate; measures; conversion between equivalent numerical forms such as currencies; algebraic representation, formulae and manipulation; composite and inverse functions; indices and surds; linear programming; solving equations and inequalities; geometrical constructions; transformations; locus; mensuration and trigonometry

Method of AssessmentAt IGCSE students are assessed through two examinations. One is a 1 hour and 30 minute examination and contains short answer questions, which is worth 35% of the course. The other lasts two hours and 30 minutes and contains longer answer questions, which is worth 65% of the course.

Why study Mathematics?Mathematics is the abstract study of topics which include quantity, structure, space and change. Mathematicians look for patterns and use logical reasoning to develop new theories. Students will develop a variety of skills through studying mathematics.

Course ContentStudents study a range of mathematical topics. These include, but are not limited to: set language and notation; functions and their graphs; indices and surds; factors of polynomials; simultaneous equations; logarithmic and exponential functions; circular measure; trigonometry; permutations and combinations; binomial expansions; vectors; matrices; differentiation and the minimum and maximum points; integration and the area under a curve.

Method of AssessmentAt IGCSE Additional Mathematics students are assessed through two examinations. They are both two hour examinations and contain both short and long answer questions. They are both worth 50% of their final IGCSE grade.

Course ContentThe Geography IGCSE course is based on three key themes: population and settlement, natural environment (plate tectonics, weather, coasts and rivers) and economic development and the use of resources. There is also a skills element – using and interpreting a variety of maps, photographs and other data sources. In addition, students will need to participate in the residential fieldtrip to Hong Kong to complete a coursework investigation of settlement patterns in the territory.

Course ContentIGCSE Music students gain an understanding of the historical periods and styles of music from different parts of the world. They are introduced to free creative composition work and are given an opportunity to write music in a style of their choosing. Students also have the chance to develop their performance skills on their chosen instrument, as well as participate in group music-making.

Method of Assessment40% of the marks come from a listening exam. 30% of the marks come from completing 2 compositions written in the style of the students’ choosing. The final 30% of the marks derive from performing. Students are assessed by performing on their chosen instrument, both in a solo and group context.

Whilst Academic excellence is a non-negotiable part of life at Dulwich College Zhuhai, we believe there is much more to a good education than simply textbooks and classrooms. We offer a wide range of activities and expect students to show just as much passion outside of the classroom as in it. Many of the activities we offer involve students from across the Dulwich College family of schools, with many specifically designed by leading international universities, solely for Dulwich students.

Our co-curricular activities include specific activities such as:

• The Duke of Edinburgh International Award • The Year 10 residential trip to Yangshuo

• The Shakespeare Drama Festival • The ISCMS Music festival

• The Dulwich College Debating contest • The Oxford Mathemagicians workshops

• The Stanford University online programme • The Dulwich Olympics

As well as these major events, the school runs weekly co-curricular activities for students to participate in. These after school activities are designed to extend students’ sporting, cultural, musical and academic skills, as well as allow them to pursue interests they are passionate about. There are a wide number of options to choose from including; orchestra, choir, drama, debating, football, basketball, badminton, computer programming , model airplane building and the politics and economics society, to name just a few. These co-curricular activities also allow students to develop their leadership skills through student-run clubs. These clubs are proposed, developed and organised by students so they can pursue activities that are of interest as well as provide a platform for leadership development.

Integral to our co-curricular programme is the notion of ‘service’. We expect all our students to develop an empathy to towards those who less fortunate than them and to help others. To this end we organise charity performances, environmental clean-up activities, visits to old people’s homes and orphanages and find-raising events for children in need.

Besides being fundamental to a holistic education and developing well-rounded individuals, the co-curriculum is also important in securing places at leading universities; American universities in particular are looking for applicants who can enrich the quality of campus life. It is taken for granted that applicants will have outstanding academic grades so evidence of success and commitment in other areas is also required for the best universities.

课外活动里还有一个重要组成部分是“社区服务”。我们通过义工、慈

善筹款、清洁环境、拜访老人院和孤儿院等活动引导学生关爱社会上的

弱势群体。

课外实践不仅是整体教育的基础之一，同时也是申请大学的一个保险途

径。美国的大学尤甚，它们总是在寻找那些能丰富其校园生活的学生，

并把他们作为候选人。各大名校已印证了他们的候选人不仅要有突出的

学术成绩，而且还要求他们在其他领域的体验、付出及成就。
