Faculty Organization 教学队 伍整体 结构

教学队伍的知识结构、年龄结构、学缘结构、师资配置情况(含辅导教师或

Consisting of five members, the teaching team of the course Analog Circuits taught

in English is an outstanding team with great working ethics, full of vigor, devotion and

team spirits. The characteristics are detailed as follows:

A well­organized knowledge structure. The faculty consists of two professors

(one of whom is doctoral supervisor) and two associate professors, and all principal

teachers have acquired doctoral degrees in engineering. Ms. Sun Xiaozi has been

awarded the title of the National Excellent Teacher, and has been teaching Fundamentals

of Analog Electronic Technology and other courses for a very long time as the academic

leading teacher in the field of circuits and system in Xidian University. Ms. Sun has

conducted four teaching reform projects at provincial and national level, edited and

published nine textbooks, among which Practical Handbook ­­ Electronic Circuit

Analog Circuit was awarded second prize for the Excellent Textbooks of the State

Education Commission in 1995. Ms. Sun was awarded the second prize of National

Excellent Teaching Achievements and the first prize of Outstanding Teaching

Achievement in Shaanxi Province in 1993, the first prize of National Teaching

Achievement and the excellent prize of Outstanding Teaching Achievement in Shaanxi

Province in 2001. As the core of the faculty, Ms. Sun is in charge of supervising,

teaching plan approving, textbook selecting, etc. with great teaching ethics and wide

vision. Besides, Ms. Sun, very experienced, has been supervising many master

candidates and doctoral candidates. Professor Li Jie is an outstanding young teacher with

years of teaching experience in the field of circuits and system and has got many

research projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation. Professor Li Jie

is in charge of curriculum supervision and textbooks selection. Her profound

professional qualities and accumulation of knowledge have been guiding the

development of this course. The other members of the team also chaired or participated

in a number of vertical, horizontal scientific research projects. In short, in terms of

knowledge structure, the teaching team has formed a multi­level team knowledge

structure which reflects the development of science and technology frontiers, highlights

the scientific research ability and the professional characteristics of Xidian University

The team is full of teaching experience, innovative thinking, vision, and wide coverage,

and the structure is in accordance with the discipline of course development.

Rich overseas experience. Several team members have many years of overseas

work experience. From 2002 to 2005 Ning Beijia has engaged in research and teaching

work in the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Institute; Lu Wen has engaged in postdoctoral

research at Stanford University in United States from 2010 to 2012; Zhang Jianlong has

conducted his post­doctoral research in the center for space science and engineering in

University of Wisconsin of United States from 2007 to 2008. They have fluent spoken

English and skillful English writing ability due to their valuable overseas experience.

More importantly, by working and living abroad, these teachers have acquired open

international visions, flexible thinking, professional knowledge, good communication

skills, rich cultural knowledge and positive attitude towards life, which greatly supports

the curriculum, teaching mode and management of this course, ideological and cultural

exchanges and other aspects of the education of foreign students. It also makes the team

work in line with the general requirements of subject construction, and embodies the

special characteristic of Xidian University. In addition, it makes the team work reflect

the contemporary scientific and technological achievements, spreads Chinese culture,

and considers students cultural traditions, psychological characteristics and learning

habits. And the overall effect of the education of foreign students has been greatly

improved.

A scientific age structure. Team members include all three generations. The older

generation of senior professors, of noble character and high prestige and rich in

experience, have gone through the decades of development and construction of Xidian

University, and they are very familiar with the developmental trend of the subject and

teaching regularity. With the old professor presiding over the overall situation and

guiding the direction, team work will have a definite object and steady development.

Middle­aged teachers, between the ages of 35 to 45 years, account for more than 50% of

the team and are the team's main teaching force. Full of vigor, they have a strong appeal

and cohesion of the students in terms of energy, ability, experience, inspiration. Young

teachers, under the age of 35, are responsible for teaching assistant work, including

assisting teachers in class, guidance, marking the students' homework, collect student’s

opinions and suggestions. These are all important supplement for classroom teaching as

a bridge of communication between teachers and students. Enterprising and easy to

communicate with student, young teachers' are equipped with novel knowledge, agile

thoughts, and dare to explore. They are the most vibrant part of the team and the

foundation of future development. In a word, composed of three generations, the team

formed a progressive, sustainable development of the teaching team age configuration

pattern with senior professor as the guidance, core teachers as teaching force and young

teachers as assistance.

Rich education­related structure. Most teachers of the team gained bachelor’s,

master’s and doctoral degrees in Xidian University. Associate professor Zhang Jianlong

gained bachelor and master’s degrees in Northwestern Polytechnical University.

Northwestern Polytechnical University and Xidian University have similarities in

electronic information specialty, and each has its own characteristics. Associate

professor Zhang Jianlong added new ideas to the teaching team. Thus in the overall

planning of the curriculum construction, and organizing the formulation of teaching

syllabus, teaching and research activities and other work, the team not only considers the

characteristics of Xidian University, also refers to the experience of other colleges.

Generally speaking, the diverse educational background of the team members makes the

team work and decision­making more reasonable, comprehensive, and thus further

guarantees the teaching effects.

Rational allocation of teachers. In addition to the full­time teachers and guidance

teachers, the teaching team also hired outstanding doctoral candidates and master

candidates as teaching assistants to help improve the quality of classroom teaching and

after­class review effect. Because the young graduate students have a solid foundation of

knowledge and a good level of English, they can communicate smoothly with the

foreign students, ensuring the effects of classroom teaching and after class review. On

the whole, the three levels of the teaching team composed of teachers, assistant teachers

and students for mentoring. And the ratio of teachers and students is between 1:3 to 1:5,

which greatly enhanced the interaction between teaching and learning, and improved

teaching effects.

The participation of staff of foreign student management. As the third party,

students management team, familiar with the situation and requirement of employment

market, provides many valuable suggestion for the curriculum reform of students

through cooperative education of international students, organizing the school­school,

school­enterprise and other types of cooperation, in order to fully mobilize all resources

and provide a good educational foundation with joint training, funding, practice,

teaching material construction.

一、 教学改革 Achievements of Teaching Reforms

With the continuous scale­expansion and leveling up of foreign students, teaching

reforms are imperative and should be in line with actual situation of the development of

foreign students’ education. Relying on Xidian’s advantage in the field of electronic

information majors, training models are innovated; the construction of teaching materials

究 is strengthened; school­school and school­enterprise cooperation is established; the

construction of internet sources is strengthened, teaching reforms are further deepened;

the work being done are as follows:

(1) Implementing optimization strategy: reforming mechanism and system of

cultivating foreign students of electronic and information majors. Reform of

higher education system pilot project 2010;

(2) Research on mechanism reforms of industry­oriented foreign student

cultivation in science and engineering universities. 2011 academic research

project of China Association for International Education;

(3) Research on mechanism reforms of cultivating foreign students majoring in

electronic and information. Teaching reforms project of Xidian University

2011;

二、教学研究成果 Achievements of Teaching Researches

The first graduates taught in English have graduated in 2012, and second round

graduates will graduate in July 2013. Xidian University has accumulated rich experience

in teaching foreign students in English. Teaching reform projects of the foreign students

conducted by the School of International Education, Xidian University, has won several

teaching awards as follows:

(1) Research and practice of cultivation system of high­level innovative talents in

information security field. Second Prize of National Teaching Achievements

Awards in Higher Education 2009;

(2) Providing a market­oriented “order” service of talent cultivation. Second Prize

of Outstanding Teaching Achievements of Xidian University 2011;

(3) Exploration and practice of cultivation modes of courses taught in English for

undergraduate foreign students majoring in electronic and information. First

Prize of Outstanding Teaching Achievements of Xidian University 2012;

4.课程描述 Introduction

4­1 本课程校内发展的主要历史沿革,含开设时间,开设轮次,课程属性,授课对象,是

否获得过荣誉称号(如国家精品课程、双语教学示范课程等),课堂平均教学规模,留学生

比例。

Brief Introduction

Xidian University is one of key comprehensive universities of electronic information major

in China. Analog Circuit is an important major course for electronic information majors, and it

relates to communications engineering, electronic information engineering, computer science and

technology and other seven majors for undergraduates in the School of Telecommunications

Engineering, the School of Electronic Engineering, School of Computer Science and Technology,

School of Mechano­Electronic Engineering, and School of Technical Physics in Xidian

University. Xidian University has long been attaching great importance to the teaching and

reform. Analog Circuit is an important major course for engineering undergraduate of electronic

information specialty, and it is also a theoretical course closely related to practice. It can be seen

as a first course for engineering students to get into engineering field, and an important bridge

linking public basic courses and professional courses. By focusing on training students’ ability of

finding, analyzing and solving problems and the ability of engineering practice, the main task of

this course is to help students acquire basic theories, basic electronic circuit analysis methods and

basic skills in the field. Emphasis on practice and engineering, large amount of teaching contents,

fast technical updates, difficulties in teaching and learning, are the characteristics of the course.

With the development of science and technology, especially the rapid development of computer

technology, the teaching material, teaching content, teaching method and means, teaching mode

and so on of Analog Circuit have been in continuous reform and innovation in order to adapt to

new changes.

In teaching content, there are several major reforms. The earliest Analog Circuit used

electronic tube as the core device, so the teaching contents are all about the electron tube

amplifier circuit; since the invention of transistors in 1960’s, the teaching of Analog Circuit made

a comprehensive update, taking transistor as the focus; with a revolutionary change design and

large­scale manufacture of integrated circuits by the late seventy's, Analog Circuit’s teaching

focused on the integrated circuit as the teaching target adjustment. During the next twenty or

thirty years, the teaching contents have been continuously updated, keeping the teaching content

always consistent with new development and new technology in the field electronic information

technology. It is worth mentioning that, Professor Sun Xiaozi compiled the textbook Practical

Handbook ­­ Electronic Circuit Analog Circuit won the second prize of the National Excellent

Teaching Award in 1995; and the course Analog Circuit was awarded the Excellent Course in

Shaanxi Province in 2003 and was awarded the title National Excellent Course in 2004. Analog

Circuit has become a symbolic course in the teaching of students of electronic information

specialty in Xidian university.

The School of International Education, relying on the Xidian’s professional advantage of

electronic information in the field, takes the lead in the development of electronic information

specialty. The course Analog Circuit has become one of the fundamental courses for foreign

students taught in English. The teaching team, under the overall planning and guidance of the

course head of Analog Circuit taught in Chinese, was formed by excellent young teachers who

are dedicated and innovative. Then the team continued to complete the teaching plan, teaching

outline, teaching materials and other preparatory work. In 2012, the first foreign students taught

in English officially graduated, which is a strategic success of foreign students taught in English

in Xidian University.

At present, the team has completed three rounds of teaching, with the number of students

increasing year by year. Analog Circuit has become one of the important courses of student

education. Meanwhile, teachers also participated in the teaching of the training of Xidian­CEIEC

Joint Training Base of Foreign Students established by Xidian and the China Electronics Import

and Export Corporation, training more than 130 senior professional talents in electronic

information field for Algeria, Egypt, Angola and other countries. The training quality of students

won the recognition from the commissioning companies and institutions.

The course Analog Circuit is a compulsory major course for undergraduate foreign students

majoring in electronic information in the second year, and is usually open in the spring semester.

In the aspects of teaching content organization and implementation, the team leader is

responsible for leadership, organization and implementation of unified teaching plan, teaching

syllabus, compiling teaching materials, arranging teaching schedule, the extra­curriculum

tutoring, homework tutoring, unifying exam papers, giving the final score based on students’

comprehensive examination papers and classroom performance.

教学规模 The Scale of Teaching: The class size of Analog Circuit is 100 people on average

with a total of 10 specialties in 30 classes. The foreign students taught in English are set up as

independent separate classes with an average of 20 students in each class. At present there are in

total 62 foreign students who have been participated in the course.

The course Analog Circuit is a compulsory major course for undergraduate foreign students

majoring electronic information. The students are of different backgrounds, religions, cultures,

education, and English levels. So with the consideration of the differences mentioned, the

professional training, orientation and targets of the course include:

(1) Focus on basic knowledge, basic calculation and basic skills, with a full coverage of

teaching contents to enable students to understand the whole course, reduce bias, difficult,

oddities; emphasize theoretical and practical learning and avoid examination­oriented

education to build a solid foundation for senior major courses.

(2) Highlight new technology and new achievements in the field of analog circuit to enable

students to grasp the dynamics of the science and technology development and to work

independently in the analysis and circuit design of analog circuit theory.

(3) With the "training strategy of school­enterprise integration", help students master the

technology of relevant knowledge and nurture engineers who can meet the requirements of

business.

(4) With “Order Service” training as the tenet, cultivate students as qualified talents to meet

生源情况 Introduction of Student Resources: Xidian University recruits approximately

5500 students of good quality each year. Xidian University has been approved by the Ministry of

Education to recruit foreign students, and is one of the universities which can award doctoral,

master’s and bachelor’s degrees. Xidian University recruits self­funded students and students

supported by Chinese government scholarship, foreign government scholarship and enterprise, and

other categories of foreign students. Xidian University has formed a certain scale of training in the

teaching multiple levels of undergraduate, graduate students in English. In 2012 the number of

foreign students in Xidian University has reached more than 350, with foreign students taught in

1. Classroom lecturing of theories. Teachers explain the basic principles, formula calculation, and graphics in classroom and demonstrate the procedure of changes in animation curves. The

following graph shows the changes of work points in load­line methods.

2. Method of classroom lectures and assignments about the application of simulation circuit.

The circuit design is the most attractive to students. Examples are introduced in class, methods

are put forward, and then homework is assigned for students to apply the methods in the design

homework. Finally, teachers comment on the homework, giving credit and suggestion for

improvement.

3. After class assignments are exercises and projects combined. Because this course is both

theoretical and practical, classroom knowledge can be consolidated through exercises, and

students' creativity can be inspired and their application of knowledge can be strengthened

through project design.

4. The cases of analog circuit practical application run through the whole teaching process.

For example: diode rectification circuit is applied in power conversion and charger; BJT

Transistor amplifier circuit in audio equipment; Transistor switch circuit is used to realize the

digital circuit, and is widely used in mobile phone, TV, computer and other equipment; high

power Transistor used in radar transmitter, digital beam forming and phased array radar

antenna, etc.; development of electronic devices, from tubes, transistors, to integrated circuits,

and large scale integrated circuit. These are highlighted in this specialty, and students’ interest

is stimulated.

5. Application software display. The principles of analog circuit device, circuit design and system integration are demonstrated by Altium Designer. The following graph on the left is a

Though it is not required in this course, this demonstration can make the students understand the

principles, application, and development of analog circuit, and then establish a systematical concept

occupation planning.

(1) Class hours are not enough with the consideration of teaching contents. Analog circuit

covers a wide range and is rich in content, but 46 class hours just cover the main content.

Therefore, the teaching contents cannot be fully explained in depth.

Solutions: a. Concentrate key content, improves classroom teaching efficiency as far as possible to

avoid omissions.

b. Provide extracurricular materials; guidance teachers provide appropriate extension

according to students' interest.

c. Provide internet resources; encourage autonomous learning with teachers as guidance.

(2) Teaching content can't reflect the updating of technology. The progress of science and

technology change rapidly, challenging classroom teaching at any time.

Solutions: a. Introduce appropriate advances in science and technology in accordance with the

Xidian University mainly specializes in the field of electronic information. Analog Circuit is

an important basic course of electronic information major, taught in 5 schools for 10 undergraduate

majors, such as communications engineering, electronic information engineering, computer science

Ⅱ. 实施情况 Implementation

(1) In April 2013, the project “constructing student­centered and teacher as guidance teaching

resource platform of brand course of electronic and information taught in English” was approved as

Pilot Project of Teaching Reform of Foreign Student Education. The project includes teaching

plans, teaching outline, teaching materials, practice (experiment, training and internship) guidance,

video resources, teaching video, online Q & A, course forum, recommended bibliography,

professional literature, exercises, exam paper samples and reference answer etc.

(2) In February 2011, the project “implementing optimization strategy: reforming mechanism

and system of cultivating foreign students of electronic and information majors” (No. 08­258­385)

was approved as a reform of higher education system pilot project, and has received 500,000 RMB

funds and 100,000 RMB additional funds for the use of constructing teaching resource platform. At

present, Analog Circuit is chosen as the first group of brand course, and part of teaching video and

all the courseware handouts and other related construction work have been completed.

(3) The compiling of English textbooks of the course has been approved as a project by Xidian University, and the construction English textbook has been strengthened with the cooperation with Xidian University Press.

(4) Professors and experts with rich experience of foreign student education have been called

to improve the teaching plans and course system.

(5) Bring in advanced teaching resources and experimental equipment from companies and

conduct reformation of practice teaching. Increase proportion of hands­on classes. Establish joint

training bases and joint laboratories with joint efforts with HollySys and ZTE, and they have come

into service.

6-2 对本课程后续建设规划的支持措施 Supporting Measures

(1) The personnel department has issued relevant policies, encouraging teachers to study

abroad to learn one or two quality courses and return to teach these courses; consulted with

each school to formulate a reasonable workload calculation method and open courses taught in

English; returning teaching teachers will be specially motivated by relevant policies to open

courses taught in English.

(2) The proofreading and revision of textbook drafts have been undergoing with the help of

each school and relevant departments; the schedule of course video recording has been made

and is to be finished in July 2014.

(3) To create training programs and curriculum system consistent with international students

and the actual situation. The curriculum system reform will take the module reform mode for

the convenience of cross­major combination in the nurturing of foreign students of electronic

information majors; set up professional skill education; strengthen practice teaching; increase

students’ hands­on ability; motivate students’ learning enthusiasm; enhance students’

comprehending ability on major knowledge.

(4) Accelerate the construction of internet resources platform for Analog Circuit on the basis

of the construction of teaching materials of analog circuit (including materials for hands­on

courses). This work has received an investment of 50000 RMB from Xidian University.

7. 其他备注栏 Notes Foreign Student Bachelor­Educational Features:

Foreign student education is of great challenges owing to the different sources of students with

varied economic situations, cultural backgrounds, customs and practices, languages, educational

levels, religious beliefs, etc.

For the consideration of the situation above and the characteristics of foreign students, coping

measures have been worked out to deal with the problems in foreign student education and

accomplish the teaching plans for foreign students. The measures are mainly as following:

(1) Providing Standard English training programs to enhance language ability. Most

students are from none­English speaking countries and thus are of varied English abilities.

The English training programs are to improve foreign students’ English ability of writing,

reading and speaking so that they are able to participate quickly and efficiently in the courses

taught in English.

(2) Providing preparatory courses of fundamentals. The pre­college education levels of

foreign students are varied and some pre­college education cannot link up smoothly with

Chinese higher education. Therefore, a series of preparatory courses of fundamentals are

drawn up as supplementary courses, including: Algebra, Geometry, Physics, etc. which helps

students master fundamental knowledge and prepares them for higher education of electronics

and communications.

(3) Providing cultural experience and establishing college student regulations. A series

of activities, such as lectures, group discussion, outdoor activities, are open to foreign students

to introduce Chinese language, cultures and costumes in Xi’an, history of Xidian University

and subject features of Xidian University, which helps students get to know about China,

Xi’an and Xidian University and start a new campus life in Xidian University.

(4) Providing students with communication of learning experience and helping students

build confidence in the major. Foreign students are facing pressures from two aspects, one

being study, the other being job hunting. If not dealt properly, the pressures could cause

psychological condition and their study in university by communicating with students in

different ways. Faculties also take the responsibility of explaining teaching plans, giving

suggestion on job hunting, and so on. For example, teachers of major courses make a general

introduction of fundamental courses, fundamental major courses and major courses to give

students an overview of the teaching plans and its necessity and help them to build confidence

in the major, inspiring students’ learning motivation, arousing their learning interests and

improving their learning effects.

(5) Improving teaching plans and teaching modes aided by feedbacks. Seminars are

regularly held to discuss and evaluate the implementing of teaching plans, teaching modes

and course designs. Foreign students are occasionally invited to the seminar, ensuring that

teaching objectives set up by the university and students’ opinions and requirements can be

both included in the teaching plans and the implementation. Thus, one­sided teaching mode

can be avoided, enhancing humanity, feasibility and effects of the teaching plans.

To sum up, not only efforts of the managing teams and teaching teams but also the feedbacks and

opinions from the foreign students are taken into consideration in the teaching plans, forming an

integrated teaching system of managing, teaching and learning with an interaction among the three

aspects, yielding satisfactory effects in foreign student teaching activities and education.
