Odyssey to Space

Have you ever thought of spending your long vacation, not on boating in a scenic countryside or reposing on a sunny beach, but instead drifting around in a space station laden with equipment, or even sauntering on the rocky terrain of Moon and Mars? This dream was made possible when the first space tourist entered the International Space Station in 2001. Perhaps one day space stations or even our neighbouring planets will be amongst the most popular tourist attractions.

But going to space is no easy. Not only you have to prepare for all kinds of possible dangers en route, but also overcome a spate of problems both on your daily living and on your physical bodies because of microgravity.

The Sky Show “Odyssey to Space” takes you on a wonderful trip to the International Space Station, or even to the Moon and Mars. During the journey, you will come to know how rockets are launched, what weightlessness actually means, and how astronauts spend their time inside the spaceship cabin under microgravity. You will appreciate the profound influence space technology has upon us, and understand why humans are so tenacious in their quest of space even in the face of seemingly insur-mountable odds.

太空漫遊

試想像你的悠長假期，並不在湖光山色中泛舟徜徉，更不是閒臥於陽光海灘，而是在滿佈儀器的太空

艙內四處飄浮，甚或在怪石嶙峋的月球及火星上悠然漫步。這可不是奇想。2001年，第一位太空旅客

成功登上國際太空站。或許有一天，太空站以至我們鄰近的行星，會成為熱門的旅遊地點。

但其實要進入太空，一點也不容易。除了路途上凶險重重外，更要克服無重狀態對日常生活所帶來的

種種不便和對身體機能的影響。

天象節目《太空漫遊》，將會帶領觀眾踏上一段難忘的太空旅程，我們不但會登上國際太空站，更會

遠赴月球和火星。在旅程中學習火箭升空的原理和無重狀態的成因，認識太空人在太空艙內如何起居

飲食，最後了解太空科技對人類的深遠影響，明白到即使過程如此艱巨，人類為甚麼仍會鍥而不捨地

探索太空。

阿爾卑斯山

艾格峰 (高3,970米) 位於瑞士境內的阿爾卑斯山脈上。該處空氣稀薄，盡是雪壁冰峰，陡峭險峻，高聳

難攀。然而，三名攀山家 – 約翰‧哈林三世、羅伯特‧賈斯珀和達妮埃拉‧賈斯珀 – 即將在此展開

攀山之旅，攀上這個世界知名的山峰。當中約翰更會作出他畢生中最危險但亦最富意義的嘗試：征服這

個曾奪去他那享負盛名的父親性命的天險。全天域電影《阿爾卑斯山》所紀錄的主要是約翰的不平凡歷

程。他由美國俄勒岡州的家鄉，遠道而來到達歐洲雄偉壯觀的阿爾卑斯山，從中你將了解到攀山家內心

最大的恐懼，也體會到他為光耀亡父而攀山所激發的奮鬥心；影片中你會目睹散佈山巒之間令人讚嘆的

The Alps

In the thin air above Switzerland, on the sheer rock-and-ice wall known as the Eiger (3,970 metres), a mountain in the Alps, three climbers, John Harlin III, Robert Jasper and Daniela Jasper are about to embark on the most perilous and meaningful ascent that they have ever undertaken: an attempt to scale the legendary mountain that took John’s renowned father’s life. The Omnimax film “The Alps” filmed John’s extraordinary journey. From his home in Oregon of the United States to Europe’s majestic mountain range, the Alps, where you will confront his darkest fears and greatest potential as he climbs to honour his father, where you will witness the amazing feats of engineering that forged bridges, tunnels and charming villages amidst the peaks, where you will ultimately explore a fascinating culture in which civilization exists in careful balance with nature.

星星、月亮、太陽Sun, Moon an d Stars小孩子對天上的物體總是感到好奇，他們往往愛問過不停：甚麼時間可以看見星星、月亮和太陽？為甚

麼月亮會有不同的形狀？星座到底是甚麼？如何利用北斗七星找出北極星？還有，他們也老是弄不清方

向，如果前面是東，那麼南是在左方？右方？......

這齣學校節目為以上一連串的問題提供了答案。它透過兩個可愛的卡通人物波波和小B，帶領小朋友進

入不同的夢幻世界，認識太陽伯伯、星星先生和月亮小姐，並從中學習如何利用太陽和星星來辨認方

向。這個節目是首個運用互動形式的學校天象節目，同學可以透過按鈕系統選擇節目內容的變化和回答

問題，老師因而可了解學生對節目內容的認識程度。

這個節目配合小學常識科有關太陽和月亮的學習主題，適合初小學生觀看。

Kids are curious about objects in the sky. They always keep on asking: When can we see stars, the Moon and the Sun? Why is it that the Moon appears in different shape? What are constellations? How do we use the Big Dipper to find the Polaris? And they can never make clear of their orientations: If they are facing the east, should the south be on the left? Or right? ...

Through two lovely cartoon figures Bob and Ada, this school show takes the students to various fantasy worlds to meet the friendly characters of the sky - Uncle Sun, Mr. Star and Miss Moon, and learn how to identify the directions using the Sun and the stars. This first interactive school sky show allows students to determine its flow or answer questions using the interactive control system, and teachers will know how much the students have learnt in the show.

This show is designed for lower primary students and supplement the learning theme on the Sun and the Moon for Primary General Studies Curriculum.

飛越太陽系The New Solar System很多學生都知道，地球是太陽系的一分子。

不過，他們對於這個家族其他成員的認識又

有多少？原來行星中有熱情如火的，也有冷若冰霜的；有人丁單薄的，也有子姪繁衍的；有嬌小玲瓏

的，也有碩大無朋的。這些地球的親戚們可謂千姿百態，各具風采。

這齣學校節目首先讓學生認識奇妙的星空，然後帶領學生們在太陽系內穿梭漫遊，登門造訪每一顆行

星。它把天象廳變為一個競技場，讓各行星互相比拼，學生們會發現，原來木星大得可以吞下所有其他

行星，質量更是其中之冠；水星不但熾熱非常，它的運行速度也無與倫比。這個節目內的各行星造型活

潑可愛，對白幽默生動，使學生能在輕鬆愉快的氣氛下，對太陽系有一個深刻的認識。

這個節目配合小學常識科有關太陽系的學習主題，適合高小學生觀看。

Most students know that our Earth is a member of the Solar System. But how much do they know about the other members? Some could be as hot as fire while others are dreadfully cold. Some have a large family while some remain obstinately single. Their sizes vary a lot too. These relatives of our Earth come in different styles and each has its distinct charms.

This school show will first let the students understand the wonderful starry sky, and then take them onto an odyssey into the Solar System. The Space Theatre is transformed into a tournament hall where the planets enter into a keen competition. Students will find that Jupiter ranks first both in terms of size and mass. It is so enormous that it can swallow all other planets. Mercury is not only scorching hot, its orbiting speed is amazingly high. Lively scripts and funny looks of the planets will give students an unforgettable experience in getting acquainted with these striking worlds of our Solar System.

This show is developed for upper primary students and supplement the learning theme on Solar System for Primary General Studies Curriculum.

太空之旅Journey to Space2001年，第一位美國太空旅客成功抵達國際太空站，太空旅行再不是天馬行

空，或許有一天，太空站以至我們鄰近的行星，會成為熱門的旅遊地點之一。

這齣學校節目會帶領學生踏上難忘的國際太空站及火星之旅。他們會學

習火箭升空的原理、無重狀態的成因和認識太空人在太空船內的起居飲

食，然後會暢遊目的地，了解太空科技對我們的影響，以及人類為何鍥

而不捨地進行太空探索。節目採用了很多互動元素。學生可以利用座位

上的按鈕系統選擇目的地的先後次序，又或者表達他們對發展太空科技和進

行太空探索的意見。此外，他們亦可參與有趣的問答遊戲，考驗自己對節

目內容的認識。

這個節目配合小學常識科有關太空探索的學習主題和中學科學科有關太空之旅的單元，適合高小和初中

學生觀看。

The dream of space travel was realized when the first American tourist visited the International Space Station in 2001. Perhaps one day space stations or even our neighbouring planets will be among the most popular tourist spots.

This school show takes the students on a wonderful journey to the International Space Station and Mars. They will learn about how rockets are launched, what weightlessness actually is, and how astronauts spend their days inside the spaceship cabin in a microgravity environment. Students will then tour around the Station and Mars, and understand how space technology has benefited us as well as why humans are so tenacious to explore outer space. The show is characterized by its interactive elements. Using buttons mounted on the seats, students can choose which destination to go, or express their views on various issues related to space technology and exploration. They can also participate in an interesting quiz to test how much they have learnt from the show.This show is developed for upper primary and lower secondary students and supplement the learning theme on space exploration for Primary General Studies Curriculum and unit on space travel for Secondary Science Curriculum.

七大奇景The Greatest Places這齣學校全天域電影內容適合中、小學生觀看。影片從

二億五千萬年前說起，當時地球的「超級大陸」分裂，令地

球的氣候發生巨變，影片繼而回到二十世紀，向學生細說七

大奇景的景觀、野生動物、生態系統和本土文化。

This school Omnimax show is suitable for all students. Thestory begins around 250 million years ago when the planet'shypothetical landmass Pangea split, unleashing massive climatic powers across the globe. Moving back into the 20th century, the film examines the landscapes, wildlife, ecosystems and indigenous cultures of each of the seven locations.

如果有人問：「太空館的外貌像甚麼？」相信大

部份人都會不約而同的回答：「蛋！」不錯，太

空館的確酷似一只雞蛋，但你是否知道，太空館

的蛋形建築內有甚麼乾坤？

其實，這個蛋形建築容納了太空館的主要設施之

一 ─ 天象廳。天象廳不但用作播放饒富教育意味

的全天域電影，更用作播映太空館自行製作的天

象節目，以推廣天文及太空科學知識。太空館自

1980年10月啟用以來，已製作50套天象節目，

觀眾更逾300萬人次。

一直以來，天象節目在製作上除利用星象儀外，

亦有賴眾多的幻燈機、特技效果放映機及電腦動

畫等，務求以深入淺出的手法，解說天文及太空

科學的理論和知識。然而，隨著近年電腦及影音

科技突飛猛進，要以現今的標準製作一套精采紛

呈、教育及趣味兼備的天象節目，天象廳現有的

設備已開始顯得力不從心。

有見及此，太空館決定在今年年底全面更新天象

廳的星象投映系統。新星象儀可說能納須彌於芥

子，將浩瀚的宇宙濃縮於小小的天象廳中，利用

系統儲存的最尖端天文數據，實時運算宇宙天體

的變化；放映部份則採用 6 部最新 SXRD (Silicon

X-tal Reflective Display) 技術的投映機，每部的

解像度高達 4,096 x 4,096 像素，總解像度超過

4,800 萬象素，是現時流行的高清電視的 24 倍，

足以在半球形銀幕上投射出清晰銳利的影像。新

的星象投映系統除了能模擬像真度極高的星空外，

更可帶領觀眾遨遊宇宙，例如在火星上回望地球、

在土星上近距離欣賞壯麗的土星環，甚至飛抵可

見宇宙的盡頭，綜觀星系的分布及宇宙的大尺度

結構。另外，為配合這個嶄新的投映系統，天象

廳亦會安裝全新的座位，新座椅不但更舒適，更

配備藍牙耳筒以收聽不同語言的節目旁述，和能

夠讓觀眾作出實時選擇的互動功能。總而言之，

新的天象廳將帶給觀眾前所未有的觀星新體驗。

天象廳的更新工程預計2008年年底展開，為期約

半年，期間天象廳節目(包括全天域電影、天象節

目、學校天象節目及特備講座《每月星空巡禮》)

將會暫停，而展覽廳則如常開放。

其實香港太空館在未來幾年將會有翻天覆地的變

化，除了上面提到的天象廳更新工程外，由太空

館興建，位於西貢麥理浩夫人度假村的互動天文

台即將落成啟用，而毗鄰創興水上活動中心的天

文公園亦已動工興建，在往後幾年我們更會全面

更新太空館的展覽廳，我們將在以後數期的太空

館通訊為大家詳細介紹這些計劃。

If someone ever asks you what the Space Museum looks like, I guess most of you will answer: An egg! Yes, the Space Museum does resemble an egg, but do you have the slightest idea what lies inside this gargantuan egg?

The egg-shaped construction is actually the home of one of the central facilities of the Space Museum – the Space Theatre. The Space Theatre is not only used for screening educational and entertaining OMNIMAX films, but also Sky Shows and School Shows, which are Space Museum productions aimed at promoting knowledge of astronomy and space science. Since its inception in October 1980, the Hong Kong Space Museum has produced 50 Sky Shows that attracted more than 3 million people all told.

Put simply, Sky Shows are multimedia programmes that integrate the Zeiss star projector, a multitude of slide projectors, special effects projectors, video projectors as well as computer animations to explain theories in astronomy and space science. However, with the recent rapid advances in computer and audio-visual technologies, the existing production facilities of the Space Museum are fast becoming obsolete and no longer adequate to handle the making of educational yet entertaining programmes that can meet today’s high standard of multimedia productions.

As such, the Space Museum decides to replace the existing star projection system at the Space Theatre with state-of-the-art equipment. The key player of the new system is a powerful computer system loaded with extensive and up-to-date databases and is capable of performing real-time calculations and simulations for celestial bodies. Working hand in hand with the computer is a projection system comprising 6 SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) projectors, each of which boasting an image resolution of 4,096 x 4,096 pixels. With a combined image resolution exceeding 48 million pixels,

or 24 times that of the now de rigueur High-Definition TV (HDTV), the array is capable of projecting stunningly bright, crisp and sharp images onto the 800-square metre hemispherical dome. The new star projection system is not only able to simulate realistically beautiful night skies, but even take audiences on a cosmic journey – for instance, looking back at the Earth on planet Mars, close encountering with the magnificent rings of Saturn, or even flying to the edge of the visible Universe to comprehend the distribution of galaxies or the large-scale structure of the Universe. Moreover, in order to provide the best viewing experience, the Space Museum will install new cozy seats equipped with cutting edge functionalities, such as Bluetooth headphones for listening to different narrations or real-time interactive features, at the Space Theatre. All in all, we are confident that audiences will be totally carried away by the new astounding visual impact.

The Space Theatre Renewal Project is expected to begin by the end of 2008, so the theatre will be closed for about 6 months. During this period, Space Theatre programmes – the OMNIMAX Shows, Sky Shows, School Shows and the monthly special lecture “The Night Sky” will be suspended. The two Exhibition Halls, on the other hand, will remain open as usual.

In addition to the abovementioned Space Theatre Renewal Project, the iObservatory built by the Museum at the Lady MacleHose Holiday Village in Sai Kung will be inaugurated by the end of 2008. Construction of the Astropark next to the Chong Hing Water Sports Centre has commenced. The two exhibition halls of the Space Museum will also be completely overhauled and renewed by 2011. All in all, resounding changes are in store for the Space Museum in the coming few years. We will provide more detailed coverage of these exciting projects in coming issues of the newsletter.

There are totally 59 groups of exhibits in the two Exhibition Halls of the Hong Kong Space Museum. The exhibits, predominantly interactive, enable visitors to learn through a series of entertaining as well as educational experiences. Two Theme Areas, Space Science and Astronomy, are respectively contained in the Exhibition Halls on the ground floor and the first floor.

你有否想過在夜幕低垂時，與三五知己在繁華鬧市中，仍然可以仰觀天象，享受觀星的樂趣？

香港太空館特別為未親嘗觀星樂的人士舉辦了一個名為「天文快樂時光」的觀星活動。在資深天文愛好

者的引領下，參加者可以在本館天台輕輕鬆鬆地去辨認市區中可見的天體，享受一段快樂的時光。

有興趣的人士可於每次活動開始前，於一樓天文展覽廳外的走廊輪候，費用全免。

天文嘉年華Astronomy Carnival(粵語講解 to be conducted in Cantonese)

神秘的星空，帶給人無限的暇想，正因如此它每每令人著迷。天空中閃爍的星體看似遙不可及，原來也

可以近在咫尺。香港太空館擧辦的全新活動「天文嘉年華」正好讓大家在鬧巿中近距離接觸神秘的星

空。你可以透過「流動天象廳」在模擬的星空中穿梭宇宙；「魔幻行星」帶你認識太陽系八大行星的特

色和面貌；而「鏡中星空」則讓你親眼窺探月球、行星及其他天體的廬山真貌。

有興趣人士可於每次活動開始前，於太空館地下大堂輪候參加，費用全免。

天文攝影技術 Astrophotographic Techniques(粵語講解 to be conducted in Cantonese)

很多天文愛好者都喜歡把所見到的天象拍攝下來。其實天文攝影並不太困難，但要拍攝一幅理想的天文

照片，除了要對天文有基本的認識外，還要多作實習。

一連七講（4個講座，3堂實習）的「天文攝影技術」，內容包括基本天文攝影知識、攝影儀器及材料的

選擇、感光元件基礎、天文攝影儀器的使用、特別拍攝技巧、基礎影像處理方法和資料的記錄及整理。

此外，學員更可以在經驗豐富的導師指導下，掌握有關方法和技巧。

天文物理學簡史A History of Astrophysics (粵語講解 to be conducted in Cantonese)

常聽人問「天文學是甚麼？」、「萬有引力與天文學有關嗎？」、「天文學是不是等於天文台？」⋯⋯

這個講座系列將帶領大家坐上天文學時光機，回到過去為大家細說天文學的發展史。從人類自古希臘

時期的德模克里特和阿里士多德開始想像宇宙的結構；到十六、十七世紀伽利略、開普勒與牛頓把科學

方法帶入天文學；十九世紀麥克斯偉發現光的電磁性質，直接導致後來愛因斯坦的狹義相對論宇宙觀，

以及哈勃的發現令愛因斯坦犯下一生最大的錯誤；最後帶大家返回現代，將廿一世紀最新的天文物理理

論、觀測過程及結果深入淺出地逐一介紹。

第一講：理解宇宙，要有好的想像力

古希臘 – 一個充滿智慧與知識的地方。此講座將為大家講解古希臘時期的大哲學家對宇宙的想像及解

釋⋯⋯「世界是由甚麼組成的？」、「為甚麼日月星辰都繞著我們轉呢？」等。

中國航天科技的過去與未來Chinese Aerospace Technology: The Past and Future(粵語講解 to be conducted in Cantonese)

2003年 ─ 神舟五號太空船升空，實現了中國人的征空夢想；

2005年 ─ 神舟六號搭載著兩位太空人升空，是中國第一艘執行「多人多天」任務的載人太空船；

事隔3年，神舟七號預定今年10月搭載三位太空人升空，並進行中國有史以來第一次的太空漫步，這個

任務的技術難度更高、安全的要求更大。

回顧中國的航天科技發展，從上世紀1970年首次成功發射人造衞星「東方紅一號」，到2003年終於實

現中國人的征空夢想，其間所歷經的道路，可說得上既崎嶇復漫長。這個講座將會深入淺出的介紹中國

航天科技發展的歷史、特色與成就，航天事業在科學上的意義以及展望中國航天的未來。

追逐類星體The Quest for Quasars(粵語講解 to be conducted in Cantonese)

一顆星星死亡之後有可能變成黑洞，倘若黑洞是不旋轉的，且事件穹界半徑約3,000米，那麼其質量就

跟太陽相若！太陽的質量約為二百萬億億億千克，是地球質量的333,000倍。然而，一個超巨大的黑洞

往往被認為存在於類星體的中心，其質量相等於十萬個太陽。究竟何謂類星體？類星體是上個世紀六十

年代天體物理四大發現之一，是銀河系以外的奇異天體。它的照片像一顆星，但通過計算，會發現其光

度是普通星系裏所有星光的總和的一萬倍。在現代天文學中類星體被認為是一種活動星系核(AGN)，最

初是憑射電方法發現其蹤影。若想在銀河系以外的星系尋找更多類星體，則要靠光學方法。在現代天文

學中亦可用其他的波段方法尋找，例如：紅外、紫外線、X射線、伽瑪射線等。最後大家要緊記追逐類

星體還是要用多波段天文觀測方法。

在本講座系列中，講者會深入淺出地向大家介紹如何利用多波段觀測與類星體這個大家庭打交道。

西方星座的起源與演變The Origin and Evolution of the Western Constellations(粵語講解 to be conducted in Cantonese)

對一般人來說，天上的星座只有白羊、金牛、雙子⋯等12個，這些人可能連星座真正是甚麼也不知

道。對天文愛好者來說，他們都知道現在天上共有88個星座。不過他們可能不知道星座的名字曾經多

達120個以上，88個只是1922年國際天文聯合會當年成立時優先處理的星座統一問題的最後國際協

議。

究竟星座的起源是甚麼？何人、何時或何地的人最先為天上的星星編成星座？有些星座可能有數千年的

歷史，二千多年前的希臘時代已有48個星座的記載，這些星座的名字全部都有其神話背景。其他的星

座則於十七至十八世紀時陸續加添上去。這個後期星座名字的增刪或改變過程，竟然成為天文學家歌功

頌德或阿諛奉承的舞台，或展現民族或宗教優越感的戰場。

在這個講座中，我們將會探索西方星座的起源，各個星座名字背後的歷史，星座數目的演變及88個名

字的統一過程。

天文台之家：美國加州及阿里桑那州The Home of Observatories: California and Arizona(粵語講解 to be conducted in Cantonese)

想起天文台『朝聖之旅』，天文愛好者必然想起夏威夷。如果她是新一代天文台的代表，那麼美國的加

州及阿利桑那州就是上一代天文台的代表了。雖然如此，她們曾成就了不少現代天文學的重要發現，例

如威爾遜山(Mt. Wilson)天文台及帕洛瑪山(Mt. Palomar)天文台提供了不少支持大爆炸學說的觀測證據；

發現冥王星的羅威爾(Lowell)天文台；還有著名太陽望遠鏡的所在地基特峰(Kitt Peak)天文台等。這些天

文台有甚麼特別之處？前往參觀有甚麼需要注意？講者將在講座中為你一一解答。

2008年天文大事回顧Astronomy in Retrospective 2008(粵語講解 to be conducted in Cantonese)

2008年快將結束，又是回顧這一年內在天象觀測、天文發現、太空探測及宇宙探索各方面進展的時候

了。今年可見的特別天象較去年稍為遜色。還幸有8月1日的二十一世紀第一次日全食。這個極震撼的天

象吸引了數以萬計的天文愛好者不惜長途跋涉前往俄羅斯、蒙古及中國西北的新疆省或甘肅省觀賞，這

當然包括來自香港近二百位的見證者。在香港則因天氣問題只能觀賞到8月17日的一次月偏食。本年回

歸或新發現的彗星並沒有令人驚訝的地方。本年的幾個流星雨亦可說平平無奇。

在太空探測方面，最受關注的仍然是穿梭機多次升空建設國際太空站及維修哈勃太空望遠鏡的任務。另

一方面，研究火星北極的「鳳凰號」成功登陸火星，並首次證實火星上有水冰的存在，而掠過水星的

「信使號」太空船亦續有驚人的發現。正在前往一顆彗星及冥王星探測的太空船仍依計劃運行。在土星

及火星運作中的其他太空船繼續傳回令人驚喜的發現。備受國際注目的中國嫦娥探月計劃及「神舟七

號」計劃亦順利展開。哈勃太空望遠鏡及其他在地球軌道外的巨型望遠鏡的影像對普通人來說仍然最為

壯觀吸引。

今年內的種種發現都令人驚喜，2008年可說是天文上多采多姿的一年。
