Let’s get on a train in London!!

Jim and Yuki will make a trip to York. This is the first time for Yukiko to get on a train in England. Thus, Jim explains how to use trains in England. They are talking at Kings Cross Station, London. Read the dialogue and answer the following questions. Jim: Today, I’ll guide you through York. York is my hometown.

And I’ve already reserved a ticket for York. Here is your ticket. (Look at pict1.)

Yuki: Thank you, Jim! But this is the first time for me to get on a train like this. Can you show me how to get my seat in the train?

Jim: Of course. Follow me! This is our train. At the lower left side of the ticket, you can see your coach and seat number. Yuki: Yes. It says “Coach C” and seat number is 12. Jim: So you have to get on coach C and find the seat 12. Yuki: OK. …Oh, I find my seat!

But what’s this card stuck in the backrest of my seat? (Look at pict2.) Jim: This card shows this seat is reserved between Kings cross station to York. So people who didn’t reserve the seat can sit here except between Kings cross and York. Yuki: Wow! There is no system like this in Japan. It’s interesting. Can I take this card home as a souvenir? Jim: Yes. But you should take it just before you get off the train.
