The first to connect is Mango a South African airline
known for its customer service and being the only
African airline to offer on-board Wi-Fi
Customers travelling on an itinerary which includes

and a connecting partner will be offered Alliance

mean that travel security in general and airport security in particular are on the minds of many
It has prompted me to think about how security and safety has varied airport to airport as I
traveled around the globe
We have become so accustomed here to high levels of screening of our persons information
and luggage that it can seem like another universe when we travel in some countries (usually
in the less developed world although not entirely even there) The part of my travel that
preceded 911 seems like a lost time
My pre-911 travels to Tahiti for example involved waiting around an outdoor boarding area
until a tiny plane landed right in front of us We would wave our tickets in front of an airline
representative and walk onto the plane with our carry-on without any screening These
planes had no barrier wall or door between the passenger and the pilot
Airports themselves are often chaotic in the developing world The baggage claim area of the
Cairo airport was a sight to behold As we walked through the terminal to retrieve our bags
there was nothing more than a huge pile of luggage on the floor Staff from our travel
company sorted through the pile until they saw the distinctive luggage tags we had been
asked to put on our suitcases The luggage had been laying there unattended by any official
or security I wondered how it was that the bags were not stolen Fortunately my bag was
found among the heap and we left countless unattended unclaimed ones on the terminal
floor as we departed

from Punta Arenas to Antarctica the pilots beckoned me to the open front of the plane to get a

and luggage that it can seem like another universe when we travel in some countries (usually

We have become so accustomed here to high levels of screening of our persons information
and luggage that it can seem like another universe when we travel in some countries (usually
in the less developed world although not entirely even there) The part of my travel that
preceded 911 seems like a lost time
My pre-911 travels to Tahiti for example involved waiting around an outdoor boarding area
until a tiny plane landed right in front of us We would wave our tickets in front of an airline
representative and walk onto the plane with our carry-on without any screening These
planes had no barrier wall or door between the passenger and the pilot
Airports themselves are often chaotic in the developing world The baggage claim area of the
Cairo airport was a sight to behold As we walked through the terminal to retrieve our bags
there was nothing more than a huge pile of luggage on the floor Staff from our travel
company sorted through the pile until they saw the distinctive luggage tags we had been
asked to put on our suitcases The luggage had been laying there unattended by any official
or security I wondered how it was that the bags were not stolen Fortunately my bag was
found among the heap and we left countless unattended unclaimed ones on the terminal
floor as we departed
