Primera Lectura: Isaias 58: 7-10 Esto dice el Señor: "Comparte tu pan con el hambriento, abre tu casa al pobre sin techo, viste al desnudo y no des la espalda a tu propio hermano. Entonces surgirá tu luz como la aurora y cicatrizarán de prisa tus heridas; te abrirá camino la justicia y la gloria del Señor cerrará tu marcha. Entonces clamarás al Señor y él te responderá; lo llamarás y él te dirá: 'Aquí estoy'. DAR VIDA EN LO ESCONDIDO, COMO LA SAL
Mucha sal en la comida, además de no poder comérnos-la, nos hace daño a la presión arterial; pero sin sal, nos quedamos sin vida. Lo curioso es que la sal apenas se ve.
La misión o el llamado de Jesús a ser sal es algo difícil. Nos gusta que nos reconoz-can lo que hacemos, que la gente se fije en nosotros; pero aquí no se trata de bri-llar ni de aparecer como alguien grande, importante y famoso, sino de desapare-cer, aunque dándole sabor a todo. No se trata de brillar personalmente, sino de mostrar el poder de Dios. Eso no quiere decir que no se reconozca todo lo de bueno que Dios nos ha dado, nues-tros talentos, sino que se dé la gloria a quien se debe. To-do lo que hacemos es por el poder de Dios; y, cuando se hace así, lo menos que importa es quién haya hecho al-go; no es el reconocimiento lo que andamos buscando, sino hacer la obra de Dios y dar el sabor de Dios a todo.
¿Cómo se hace eso? La primera lectura nos dice muy claramente: parte tu pan con el hambriento, hospeda a los pobres sin techo, viste al desnudo y no te cierres a tu propia carne; es todo un programa que no busca sino que se le dé gloria a Dios. Entonces brillará tu luz en las tinieblas y todo tendrá el sabor de Dios mismo.
La sal se disuelve en los alimentos, pero su ausencia se nota mucho. La sal también cauteriza heridas. El ser la sal para los demás significa estar ahí para consolar, para ali-viar sufrimientos, para sanar a quienes nos necesitan. Es llevar la misericordia y el amor de Dios a todos.
La sal también simboliza alegría. Decía un santo que la alegría perfecciona todo lo que se hace, mientras que la tristeza lo corrompe. Las cosas que se hacen con alegría, parece que salen mejor; en contraste, las que se hacen con amargura y resentimiento, aunque fueran perfectas, dejan en quienes las reciben el amargor de la tristeza. No merecen la pena. Dejan desilusión y decaimiento, en lu-gar de entusiasmo y motivación para hacer algo más. Ser sal es como ser luz, solo que menos aparente; es la pre-sencia de Dios hecha actividad diaria de alegría, consue-lo, y sabor para el mundo.
Para la Reflexión ¿Te molesta cuando no se reconoce o se agradece lo que haces? ¿Haces las cosas para que se vean o para la gloria de Dios?
LIKE SALT, GIVE LIFE FROM WHAT IS HIDDEN
If there is too much salt in our food, besides being difficult to eat, it can elevate our blood pressure; but without salt
we become lifeless. The interesting thing in all this is that salt is not really seen.
The call of Jesus to become salt is difficult. We like people to acknowledge what we do and to be noticed; but this is not about shining or seeming grand, im-portant or famous, but about disappear-ing into the background, giving the right flavor to everything. The idea is not to
shine personally or be recognized, but to show the power of God. That doesn’t mean we have to deny the good things that God has given us, our talents, but to give glory where glory is due. All we do is done by the power of God; and when it is done in this manner, what matters the least is recognizing who did it; we are not seeking recognition, but to do the work of God and give his flavor to everything.
How do you do that? The first reading today tells us clearly how: share your bread with the hungry, shelter the home-less, clothe the naked and do not reject your own people. This is a program that only seeks glory for God. Then your light will shine in the darkness and everything will taste like God.
Salt dissolves in the food, but its absence is very noticea-ble. Salt also heals wounds. Being salt for others means to be there to comfort, to help alleviate sufferings, to heal those who need us. It means to bring the mercy and love of God to everyone.
Salt is also a symbol of joy. A saint said once that joy per-fects work while sadness corrupts it. Things that are done with joy seem to turn out better; by contrast, those things that are done with sadness and resentment, rarely seem to be good, even if they are well done. They leave a bitter taste and those who receive them with a sense of empti-ness. They seem not to be worth the effort and ends in disil-lusionment and emptiness rather than enthusiasm and mo-tivation to do more. Being salt is like being light, but more concealed; it is the presence of God in the daily activities of joy, comfort, and flavor for the entire world.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES’ MESSAGES
God comes to tell us that he loves us, - this is the heart of the Message of Lourdes, and he loves us as we are with all our suc-cesses but also with all our wounds, our weaknesses and our limi-tations. Here are the three main themes of the messages of Lourdes: 1. Prayer: it should be about praise, gratitude, trust and joy suffer-
ing, serenity, solitude health and illness just like the Lourdes
Prayer. God bestows strength and hope through prayer.
2. Suffering: true happiness cannot be found externally, but only within intimate spirit. To obey is to love, suffering in silence for Christ is joy, to love sincerely is to give everything, above all suffering.
3. Penitence, Conversion, Purification: you are encouraged to make changes to your interior life and pray to God for sinners.

CON MUCHO ORGULLO les participamos que en el año 2016, gracias al esfuerzo y dedicación de los voluntarios pudimos apoyar con servicios pastorales a 567 niños/as en Educación Religiosa, 302 jóvenes en Confirmación, 504 padres de fami-lia en Catequesis Familiar, 18 adultos en RICA y 186 estudian-tes en Nuestra Escuela.
Además, gracias a su apoyo y entrega en servicio, niños y adultos juntos contaron con la gracia de recibir los siguientes sacramentos: 105 bautizos, 191 Primeras Comuniones, 135 Confirmaciones, y 23 Matrimonios. Con alegría también pre-sentamos a 27 jovencitas en su Quinceañera y pudimos re-cordar y despedir a 40 hermanos que fueron llamados a la Casa del Padre.
Para seguir sirviendo a la comunidad, nuestra parroquia cuenta con gastos anuales de 745mil dólares. Estos gastos son cubiertos con los ingresos ordinarios de la parroquia, colectas dominicales, ventas de comida, y el gran servicio y apoyo hecho por ustedes en la feria parroquial, un total de 492mil dólares en recaudaciones.
Esto es una prueba más de que cuando nos unimos y trabaja-mos por expandir el reino de Dios, él nos favorece. Los moti-vamos en este año 2017 a seguir dando su talento, tesoro, y tiempo con la misma entrega con la que lo han hecho hasta ahorita, y que sea como nos dice la Sagrada Escritura:
Hay mayor felicidad en dar que en recibir. (Hechos 20: 35)
ST. ROSE OF LIMA REPORT 2016
WITH MUCH PRIDE AND JOY we announce that in the year 2016, thanks to all of our volunteers’ hard work and dedica-tion, we were able to provide pastoral services to 567 chil-dren in Religious Education, 302 youths in Confirmation, 504 parents in Family Catequesis, 18 adults in RCIA, and 186 stu-dents in our School.
Also, thanks to your support and self-giving, together chil-dren and adults were able to receive the grace of the follow-ing sacraments: 105 Baptisms, 191 First Communions, 135 Confirmations, and 23 Weddings. With joy we were also able to present 27 young women in their Quinceañeras and Sweet 16’s and we were able to remember and say goodbye to 40 brethren who were called Home with the Father.
To continue serving our community, our Parish has annual expenses of $745k. These expenses are covered with ordi-nary income of the parish, the Sunday offertory collections, food sales, and the efforts, support and service given by all of you in our Annual Parish Fiesta, a total of $492k in raised funds.
This is yet more proof that when we unite and work togeth-er to expand the Lord’s kingdom, He favors us. We motivate everyone in this new year 2017, to keep donating your time, talents, and treasure, with the same enthusiasm as you have done so, and may it be as the Scripture says:
It is more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20: 35)
