As a considerable time has elapsed since t he~the nterast i n some of these resolutions has no doubt decreased. Howovor, the Regional Director has felt thqt.tho Committee wuld like to have a br ief summary of what it has been possible to do to implement the main reso- lutions. This information is available in his report to the Fourth Session (R~d/w6), but the present document brings together this information without tending to make the recort itself internally repetitious. The Committee may wish t o indicate (under item 18 of the agenda) whether they find a documont such as this worthy of repetition in tho future, hi \ 1 Customs duties on insecticides and pharmaceuticals u Most countries have waived customs duties, totally or partially, 2. National WHO Committees (5.5,) So far there is no national committee in.this region. 3 Public health administration (7.1.2.1.3 ) Member States have supplied the regional office with much useful information on this subject. However, t his information itself is not sufficient to enable the Organization to make specific recornendations for the improvement of plblic health administration especially in view of the many different systems and ad- ministrative traditions. Public health advisers have been appointed to ten countries in the region at one time or another, The intention now is to make a more detailed study country by country, in cooperation with the health authorities, of local conditions and resources, financial, educational and administrative. In addition from time to timo the regional public health advisers consult with tho ministries of health. These advisers are also working on th e problem of standards of public health. (7.1.2.3.) 4. Short-term consultants (7.1.2.~~) Short-term consultants have usually been engaged to undertake.those surveys which are a necessary precedent to the planning of a project or which i n some cases form the initial phase of a project, These surveys and the reports arising from them are a necessary complement to the work carried out by regional advisers and others. Every effort is made to ensure that the duration of the visits of these consultants should be long enough to enable them to acccanplish their tasks. t has also been possible to arrange
