1 Today, smartphones are incredibly popular all around the world. In fact, many people don’t have landlines at home; instead, they just use their cell phones. Makers of smartphones keep thinking of new ways to improve the phone by adding new features and apps. One of the most popular applications of the last five years is WhatsApp. WhatsApp is an instant messaging app that lets users communicate through text, voice and images.

2 WhatsApp became popular in a short amount of time. It was created in 2009 by Jan Koum, a Ukranian immigrant to the United States, and Brian Acton. Koum’s original idea was to let people share their status with people in their network. However, after a short while, people started to use WhatsApp to talk with friends, and WhatsApp became a messaging service.

3 There are many reasons why WhatsApp became so popular. Firstly, because you don’t have to build a contact list on WhatsApp. The application uses the numbers from your contact list automatically. Another reason why WhatsApp is so popular is that it is free. This means that many people use the app, which makes it even better to have. People also like WhatsApp because it is simple to use. For these reasons, WhatsApp is a great way to stay in contact with friends and family.

4 In 2014, Facebook owner, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that Facebook would be buying WhatsApp for $19 billion. This makes WhatsApp one of the most valuable companies in the world.
