Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Smith are sisters. Mrs. Wilson lives in a house in Duncan

and Mrs. Smith lives in a condominium in Victoria. One day Mrs. Wilson visited

her sister. When her sister answered the door, Mrs. Wilson saw tears in her

eyes. "What's the matter?" she asked. Mrs. Smith said "My cat Sammy died last

night and I have no place to bury him".

She began to cry again. Mrs. Wilson was very sad because she knew her sister

loved the cat very much. Suddenly Mrs.. Wilson said "I can bury your cat in my

garden in Duncan and you can come and visit him sometimes." Mrs.. Smith stopped

crying and the two sisters had tea together and a nice visit.

It was now five o'clock and Mrs. Wilson said it was time for her to go home. She

put on her hat, coat and gloves and Mrs. Smith put the dead Sammy into a

shopping bag. Mrs. Wilson took the shopping bag and walked to the bus stop. She

waited a long time for the bus so she bought a newspaper. When the bus arrived,

she got on the bus, sat down and put the shopping bag on the floor beside her

feet. She then began to read the newspaper. When the bus arrived at her bus

stop, she got off the bus and walked for about two minutes. Suddenly she

remembered she had left the shopping bag on the bus.

All major countries around the world have many aspects in common: history,

culture and language, touristic aspects, big cities, etc.

Your MISSION is to get much more familiar with a specific country and

prepare an oral presentation. This presentation must have a big poster with

"typed" information and some pictures.

You should aim to cover as many aspects as possible among those listed below.

However, some aspects may NOT apply to your specific country .

(Write in your own words NO MORE than 2 to 5 lines per aspect.)

1-Pictures / Photos : maps of the country : main parts / cities, where is it

located ?

2- Text

a) Geography : where is it located, close to, size, population, official language, time

zone, currency, etc.

b) History : Events that shaped the country.

c) Capital city, big cities.

d) Famous attractions / things to do or see

e) Natural landmarks : famous natural places, falls, forests, rivers, parks, etc.

f) Local customs: holidays, traditions, food,...

g) Any special tips or advice about that country

Choose your destination 28

1-Your project should cover AS MANY aspects AS POSSIBLE. But don't just list them:

present them! Considering the time allowed, you WILL have to use your own judgment

and select what seems more important and pertinent.

2- Put some COLORS in your project to make it appealing. But NO color over the writing.

Black ink only for the "TYPED" writing, NO handwriting.

3- There must be SOME maps, photos or pictures.

4- You HAVE to look at real Web sites for your country but you MUST NOT copy/paste

them. Except for names of places, you should use your own English words. As a proof

of your understanding, you MUST BE ABLE to explain the meaning of any words used in

your project. SPELLING is very important. And so is the QUALITY of your English.

Use the dictionary. Numbers NOT written in letters.

5- Make your project as REALISTIC and APPEALING as possible, complete without

being overloaded. Use SHORT sentences.

6- POSTERS : regular Standard Size Cardboard (easily found at "Dollar Store" at 1$)

7- ORIGINALITY and PRESENTATION: interesting, original, straight lines, sections well

identified, neat, clear, orderly..

So you have to choose a country among those given by your teacher.
