INNOVATION/ INCUBATOR

Over 15 years, EWB has developed a model of engagement for young Canadians — Systems Change Leadership.

Entrepreneurial problem-solving skills and a passion to create change are necessary resources to solve big challenges.

African entrepreneurs often lack the support of collaborative leadership community.

We’re applying what what we’ve learned from building our community of leaders and innovators in Canada to build a

like-minded community in Africa.

To drive change we need to invest in both in great leaders and their innovative ideas.

Small-scale businesses that deliver high social value aren’t growing. There is huge potential to lift millions out poverty and reduce inequality by unlocking their growth.

There are 17.7 million small and medium enterprises in Africa.

Early-stage businesses in sub-Saharan Africa are not receiving the support they need to be successful.

They are starved of investment, talent, mentorship, and the technical assistance they need to grow.

It is urgent that we unlock the potential of African economies.

Persistent youth unemployment and the lack of locally generated income in African economies is leading to

unacceptable rates of poverty.

Climate change is affecting sub-Saharan African countries disproportionately — resilient communities are needed

now to maintain food and economic security into the future.

Sub-Saharan Africa is becoming an attractive option for foreign investors looking to foster social value.

Yet, capital is still not being channeled to early-stage social enterprises that are perceived to be risky bets

(Rockefeller Foundation, Omidyar Network).
