IntroductioniNTrOduCTiON
The Buckinghamshire Golf Club with its 18 Hole John Jacobs designed course is set in 226 acres of magnificent English Parkland, was built and developed by the owners, asahi Breweries ltd of Japan.
Whilst situated only half a mile from the M25, 18 miles from the centre of London and 12 miles from heathrow, the course offers a delightful oasis of calm and privacy. The east of the course is bounded by the river Colne and south by the river Misbourne. To the west lies the historic village of denham, with its charming and timbered picturesque high street.
The superb site contains 5,000 mature trees. A further 20,000 indigenous trees and shrubs such as oak, beech and maple were planted during the building of the course. Wild flowers – primula, cowslip, meadow sweet and campions bloom in abundance in the roughs and around the lake. This generous planting is encouraging the natural fauna and wildlife, which includes herons, swans, kingfishers, deer and foxes.
The Clubhouse is a historic Grade ii listed mansion, predominantly eighteenth century, being completely restored to its original glory before the Club opened in 1992. The décor was chosen to reflect the grandeur of the setting, with the emphasis on relaxation and comfort. it offers every possible amenity required by the discerning golfer.
From the south-facing terrace, visitors are able to enjoy a quiet drink overlooking the practice greens and the river beyond. Alternatively they can dine in the heron restaurant, whilst a simpler meal is available in the spike bar. Throughout the Clubhouse, service and quality is of the highest standard.
HistoryhisTOrY PART I
denham Court Mansion is a historic Grade II listed English manor house of predominantly eighteenth century origin, although part of the building is over 700 years old. Once the home of the Bowyer family, the house is situated in a magnificent riverside setting surrounded by landscaped gardens and 226 acres of wooded parkland.
The history of the manor house can be traced back to the earliest saxon settlement and the estate was often the centre of exciting historical events in its varied history.
denham Court passed through many hands, belonging at one time to eleanor, wife of edward ii. After her death the manor was given to Westminster Abbey and remained in church hands until the dissolution of the monasteries under henry Viii. The estate was confiscated and sold to sir edmund peckham, a supported of the reformation.
persecution of the catholic faith was a feature of the reign of elizabeth i and the house, which had been inherited by sir edmund’s son, became known as a refuge for Jesuit priests and once again confiscated by the crown.

HistoryhisTOrY PART II
In 1601, the Manor of denham was sold to William Bowyer, whose family were to own the estate for the next 229 years.
One of the famous legends has it that at one stage during the english Civil War, the future Charles ii was hidden in the house disguised as a scullion boy, as he fled his parliamentarian pursuers.
Following the restoration in 1660, the house was extensively enlarged and improved. The poet dryden was a frequent visitor, calling it ‘one of the most delicious spots of ground in england.’
denham Court only ceased to be a family home in 1935. in subsequent years the estate was intensively farmed and the house and gardens fell into decay.
TOdAY......since asahi Breweries ltd of Japan bought and developed the land, the house has been fully restored to its original glory to become one of the finest Clubhouses in England. all renovations have been undertaken with meticulous care to preserve the original fabric and character of this splendid example of English heritage and once again, the mansion recalls the grandeur of its 18th century heyday.
