Dear readers,

After 12 years of successful local engineering at our technical centers Dalian and Shanghai a new milestone for further expansion in China will be reali-zed these days: our new Beijing Vehicle Development Center (BVDC) will go into operation in July 2016. The FEV Group invested into a ground of about 30.000 sqm in Yanjiao close to Beijing. This is

obviously a sign for the trust into the further increasing demand for development activities of the local vehicle manufacturers. The demand is mostly driven by the more and more strict emission and fuel consumption legislation in Chi-na for all kind of vehicles. Short term new and updated combustion engines and transmissions are required, which in a second step need to be applied to different vehicle versions. Beside the conventional powertrains the demand for electrified vehicles is strongly increa-sing. Due to dedicated local subsidies introduced by the government the vehicle sales numbers of NEV (New Energy Vehicles) are strongly increasing.This brochure gives you an overview about the availab-le resources and services of our new Vehicle Develop-ment Center. Soon after the opening ceremony end of June we will further invest into new facilities according to your needs.

Preface

Friction MeasurementFor combustion engines, the reduction of friction losses is a central development objective for engine concepts. The optimization of mechanical losses of the engine contributes significantly to the reduction of fuel consumption. According to FEV’s well-known “strip method”, complete engine friction measu-rement can be split into main components, e.g. crankshaft, piston group, valve train including valve drive, water pump, oil pump and other accessories. The engine is run on the friction test bench and strip-ped and measured step by step. The friction of each component is determined by calculating the difference between two measurements or by measuring a com-ponent directly (like crankshaft). At FEV BVDC a state of the art friction test bench is used to perform friction measurements on PC/LD and HD engine using FEV strip method (FEV worldwide standard). The external coolant and oil system con-ditioning enables friction measurement under diffe-rent, but constant, temperatures. Based on the fric-tion measurements, further definitions of weak areas, suggestions and recommendations for improvement can be offered by benchmarking with FEV scattering ranges including both friction values and geometrical parameters. Vehicle CalibrationAlong with the increasingly stringent emission and fuel economy legislation, more and more advanced technologies are developed and applied into modern powertrains. Software function development and ca-libration becomes more important as well as more complex. FEV has over 20 years of experience in en-gine and transmission management system software function development and calibration for all different markets, including Europe, USA and China.FEV China has built up local EMS and TMS calibra-tion teams, to execute local project independently or global projects within FEV group. The new vehicle de-velopment center is located relatively close to Beijing proving ground which guarantees high development vehicle utilization and flexibility.FEV uses its own model-based calibration toolbox TO-PEXPERT, including several vehicle related online and offline tools such as the RDE (Real Driving Emissions) online evaluation tool, ASM Box (Actuator Sensor Ma-nipulation Box) for OBD calibration or VTA (Vehicle Test Automator) for transmission calibration which helps engineers to fulfill calibration work with high ef-ficiency and accuracy. Vehicle Workshop and Prototype Confidentiality MeasuresFor vehicle works as vehicle instrumentation, engine and transmission refitting and vehicle maintenance, a spacious vehicle workshop is provided. Two sepa-rated workshop rooms (“resident workshop”) with vehicle lifters can be offered to clients for specific activities additionally.Vehicles are parked in a view protected area and high-ly confidential prototype vehicles can be parked in a separate locked room if required.

Vehicle Fuel Station and Charging Station for New Energy VehiclesIn China market fuel qualities and specification show a significant variation. To support all market and client specific requirements (e.g. winter fuel, reference fuel, low RON fuel, Methanol blended fuels) FEV’s fuel farm is equipped with 12 separate tanks with volumes from 2.500 to 30.000 liter. Storage of special fuel barrels in a climate room is possible too.Additionally to the test bench fuel supply a vehicle fuel station is available. The vehicle fuel station is used for FEV vehicle calibration and vehicle fleet testing projects but the facilities are available for client fuel storage or for third party operated vehicle fleets too. FEV has longtime cooperation with fuel suppliers to provide special fuels on specific customer demands.A charging station for New Energy Vehicles (NEV) is planned as well, one separated view protected char-ging station for confidential development vehicles and an open station for fleet testing or other non-confidential activities are considered.More information, please contact Mr. Jiang Hengfei: [email protected]

整车标定随着排放和油耗法规越来越严格,动力总成中的新技术要求越来越多,功能软件的开发与标定也越来越重要与复杂。在全球不同的市场,比如欧洲、美国和中国市场,FEV拥有超过20年的功能软件的开发与标定经验。FEV中国已经建立了本土的发动机管理系统和变速箱管理系统标定团队,来独立的执行本土或者是全球的项目。新的汽车研发中心位于靠近北京试车场的位置,以保证汽车研发的高频率使用以及灵活性。FEV使用自己的标定模型工具TOPexpert,其中包括几个汽车在线和离线工具,比如真实驾驶排放在线评估工具,用于OBD标定的执行器传感器操作箱,还有用来帮助工程师提高效率和准确性的变速箱标定工具汽车自动试验控制器。典型的针对汽油机或者柴油机以及变速箱的标定活动如下:yy 标定项目交钥匙SOPyy 汽车标定任务,比如,yy 排放标定yy OBDII标定已经入鲁棒性评价yy 针对未来的国六法规GPF标定yy 换档点换档质量以及起步标定

整车车间和样车保密措施整车车间为汽车相关的设备安装、发动机变速箱的改装、汽车的保养维护等提供足够的工作空间。另外,两个独立的带有举升机的整车工位以及驻点工程师工作间可以满足给客户特需的要求。普通试验车辆可以停在可以看到的区域;如果有需要的话,机密的车辆可以停在独立的带锁的房间。

加油站以及新能源汽车充电站在中国,市场上的燃油油品及参数差异很大。为了支持所有的市场以及满足特殊客户的需求(比如冬季油、参考油、低蒸发压力油、甲醇汽油),FEV油库包含12个2500L到30000L的独立油箱,甚至可以把特殊油箱储存在环境舱里面。除为台架提供燃油,研发中心还设有试验车辆的加油站。加油站除用于FEV整车标定以及试验车项目用油外,同时也为客户提供储油服务以及为第三方路试用油。FEV跟燃油供应商有长期合作,可以提供特制油满足客户要求。同时,新能源汽车的充电站也在规划中,一个针对保密试验车的独立充电站和一个针对普通试验车或者没有保密要求的开放充电站也正在考虑和规划之中。更多信息,请联系蒋恒飞先生:[email protected]

Combustion Development and Engine CalibrationFEV has longtime vast experience in combustion deve-lopment of different types of gasoline and diesel engines. With the new engine test bench facilities in FEV BVDC, the required engineering and testing tasks can be performed lo-cally in China now. The new test benches are equipped with the latest technologies to perform combustion development and engine calibration on gasoline and diesel engines for PC/LD and HD applications. Required emission measurement equipment (e.g. PN, PM, N2O, NH3) to comply with upco-ming CN6 and CN VI legislation are available. Exemplarily typical engine test bench tasks for HD diesel engines listed:yy Combustion development to define the best hardware

combination (piston bowl, injection nozzle, Turbo char-ger, etc.) with regard to power performance, emissions and fuel consumption

yy Base engine calibration in stationary and transient cycles

yy Steady-state and transient engine calibration for all relevant emission certification cycles

yy After-treatment calibration and investigations for DPF-, SCR- and LNT systems

yy OBD calibration according the upcoming emission legislation

BenchmarkingIdentification of competitors and the knowledge of their technological abilities is the base to develop “bench-marks”. Technology assessment by neutral specialists taking into account all relevant disciplines supports the decision-making for future strategies. FEV’s technical center in Dalian opened in 2004 pro-viding full engine development and testing scope. In the future Dalian will be FEV’s mechanical testing cen-ter in China with 13 engine test benches (light-duty/passenger cars and heavy-duty) focusing mainly on mechanical testing i.e. engine durability and functio-nal testing. All test benches are highly automated and are operated 24x7 to ensure high quality, utilization and efficiency. In the recent 10 years, hundreds of tests have been successfully finished. In the Chinese automotive and engine industry FEV Dalian has earned good reputation accordingly. Beside the engine testing, engine assembly, disassembly and engine rating can be offered too. The well-known activities in test bench, test equipment, installation and service activities of the FEV business unit “test systems” and D2T-China are now bundled in a new company called FEV Testing Solutions Co., Ltd. The newly established company is a subsidiary of FEV Powertrain Co., Ltd. which is directly owned by FEV in Germany. The activities are split into 3 locations : the development, production and after sales service are located in Dalian and 2 sales teams as well as local project management at Wuhan and Beijing serve our clients in both south and north China. The new company combines the “best of two worlds”, which means, we design, manufacture, install and commission the well-known products according to your needs to complete test cells and even test cen-ters. The product combinations are all equipped with necessary interfaces to also integrate other products like emission measurement equipment or engine ma-nagement calibration systems.
