Type Of The Actuator ②The Rack & Pinion is a mechanism that a circular gear called "the pinion" engages teeth on a linear "gear" barcalled "the rack"; rotational motion applied to the pinion causes the rack to move, thereby translating the rotationalmotion of the pinion into the linear motion of the rack.

7F. Manual Override The Manual Override can be used in an automation system when the system get an emergency control on airfailure or a controller malfunction. Various manual overrides such as gear override, jackscrew and hydraulic can beincorporated in accordance with customer’s requirements.

Introduction The EPA-Series pneumatic actuator provides a rugged and compact solution for quarter-turn valve actuation.The scotch yoke design offers high torque output while reducing maintenance requirements.Available in both double acting and spring return configurations, the modular design can bequickly and easily converted in the field. By incorporating the design advantages of the EPOand EPT heavy-duty actuators, Flowbus is able to make the EPA a high quality, reliableactuator, utilizing tried and tested methods of operation combined with the latest innovationsin technology.
Inherently Safe DesignThe EPA actuator has been designed with an inherently safe spring return unit. The actuatorspring rod is connected to both the spring end cover and retainers so that the spring is fullyretained during assembly or disassembly. This prevents accidental release of the spring force,and ensures that installation or maintenance can be performed in complete safety.
Efficient and Reliable The EPA actuator is constructed to offer efficient and reliable performance with reducedmaintenance and increased actuator life. The permanently lubricated, sliding bearings combinewith a low friction, corrosion resistant electroless nickel internal coating to ensure perfectoperation of the internal components while the heavy duty construction and external coatingprotect the actuators from corrosive environments. For flexible installation, dual valve mountingpads offer a simple method for changing the actuator fail position and the bi-directional travelstops allow easy adjustment of valve seating and fully open positions.
Torque OutputsThe EPA double acting actuator torque output ranges from 243 to 6957 N.m (2150 to 61570ins.Ibs.), while the spring return actuator produces spring end torques from 36 to 1905 N.m (310to 16859 ins.Ibs.). The actuators are rated for continuous operation at pneumatic supplypressures from 3 to 10 bar (40 to 150 psig).
Temperature RangesStandard EPA actuators are designed for operating temperature of -20°C to +80°C (-4°F to+176°F). Options are available for low -40°C (-40°F) and high +177°C (+350°F) temperatures,and special requirements can be supplied on request.

8 ISO5211 Standard Valve PadThe EPA actuator is designed to the latest ISO5211 valve interfacestandards, for optimum strength, and standardized dimensions.
9 External Tie Rods The EPA’s external tie rods protect the cylinder tube from accidentaldamage during installation or piping work. Also by removing the tierod nuts a spring return unit can be simply added or removed tochange the actuator configuration.
4 WATSTM Wide Adjustable StopperThe EPA actuator offers bi-directionaltravel stops allowing +/-5° ofadjustment to give a travel rangefrom 80° to 100°. Both the stops areexternally accessible, for easy traveladjustment. Optional extended travelstops provide a greater range ofadjustment. Alternatively adjustable limit stops can be mounted ateither end of the pneumatic power or spring module.
5 Cylinder Tube Coating The EPA actuators incorporate an electroless nickel internal coatingto resist wear, corrosion, thermal and physical shock, while providinga low friction, lubricating interior finish. The coating ensures that nomatter what corrosive elements are drawn in from the surroundingatmosphere the cylinder tube is fully protected. To ensure long lifethe coating bonds to the cylinder surface eliminating the problems ofcracking or flaking experienced with inferior solutions.
10 Secondary Ancillary InterfaceThe secondary mounting interface allows ancillaries, such as filterregulators, to be mounted directly to the actuator. This removes theneeds of a bracket making for a compact, space saving assembly andkeeps all the ancillary equipment mounted on the actuator.
11 Safety and ConfidenceEPA-Series actuators are designed to provide safe, simple andreliable performance and maintenance. The units are manufacturedby Flowbus with the highest QA procedures, so confidence is built in.
1 Modular DesignThe EPA’s modular design allows the actuator to be easily converted from double acting tosingle acting configuration, and provides for the simple addition of ancillaries such as manualoverride units.
2 Dual Valve Mounting PadsValve mounting interfaces on either side of the actuator provide the ability to change the springfail mode, from clockwise to anti-clockwise, by simply inverting the actuator and allowsinstallation in any required orientation.
05043 Replaceable Sliding Bearings EPA actuators have permanently lubricated, long lasting, slidingbearings. The soft nitrided finish provides superior corrosionand wear resistance for longer life.

Versatile Modular DesignThe EPA actuator is designed to be flexible to meet the ever changing requirements of today’s applications. The modular design is easily field converted fromspring return to double acting, without the need for special tools or equipment. The spring module can be stocked to allow quick change over, and has beendesigned so that the spring is not under tension until fitted to the actuator to prevent loss of power due to spring set. Manual overrides such as jackscrewsand declutchable gear boxes can be also retrofitted.

Manual Override
1. JackscrewA compact jackscrew override is available as an option, and offers efficient and precise performancewith the following advantages.
•Full rated torque available even when the air supply fails.•The jackscrew allows the actuator to be manually operated with no loss of torque or decrease in
operating speed.•Even when operating at maximum speed, the jackscrew is designed to withstand the forces
produced without damage to itself or the actuator.
2. Declutchable Gear BoxThe EPA actuator is available with a declutchable gear box option. This allows quick andsimple operation of the highest torque valves, even when the air or power supply fails.
Weather ProofEPA-Series actuators are IP66 / IP67 protection rated and are suitable for high-pressure water deluge resistance.
