Hong Kong - Asia’s Smart City
Hong Kong is a major information, communication and technology hub in the region. As
presented by the CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd in the Annual General Meeting on 18th January,
we’ll highlight the new technology initiative in the FM Blog of this month - Automated
Demand Response (ADR) Programme. ADR is a smarter way to manage the energy
utilization of buildings.

HKIFM 16th Annual General Meeting cum Networking Session and Presentation
The 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on 18th January 2016. There was a networking
session and a presentation by CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd on the topic of “Participating in Automated
Demand Response Programme to Go Green”.

Automated Demand Response (ADR)
● ADR has been well adopted in well developed countries to reduce
energy consumption and power companies’ fuel consumption.
● CLP tested the ADR
technology in educational
institutions, hotels and
commercial buildings with
encouraging results.
● CLP will provide the free
installation and maintenance
of the required equipment.
Customer will receive either
24-hour or 4-hour notification
before an ADR event.
● Customers will have
absolute rights to opt-out
an event or override
during an event.

CPD Requirements for Members
Continuing professional development (CPD) is a common requirement of most professional institutes to
ensure effective execution of professional duties throughout the members' working life. With the
approval of the Council, the Institute has laid down the CPD requirements for its members.
In brief, all members (including fellows) and associates should complete a minimum of 20 hours per year
on a mandatory basis starting from 1 July 2014. The CPD may come under 3 categories: (1) education
and training, (2) community, institutional, and social services, (3) private study. A minimum of 10 hours
should fall within the type of education and training, of which at least 4 hours should be related to
activities organized by the HKIFM. Private study should be subject to a maximum claim of 5 hours per
year.
