Test method makes quantitative determination

of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) content of soils.

Test is a gasometric method that utilizes a

simple portable apparatus. The test method is

quickly performed on soils containing calcium

carbonate.

1 gram of dried soil specimen is treated with

hydrochloric acid (HCI) in an enclosed reactor

vessel. HCl reacts with soil carbonates to

produce Carbon dioxide gas (CO2). CO2

Pressure is measured with a bourdon tube

pressure gauge pre-calibrated with reagent

Soil Sample Trimmer

Trimmer designed for trimming samples to

precise diameters using fine wire trimming

saw. 3 models trim samples to exact diameters

from 1 (25.4mm) to 4 (101.6mm) using inter-

changeable top platens. Pedestal and top plat-

en stainless steel pins hold sample in place.

Samples are positioned on 3" (76.2mm) or 4"

(101.6mm) pedestal, depending on model

selected. Top platen bearing assembly is

lowered and locked into position, then sample

is trimmed. Trimming guide is positioned to

exact diameter required.

Model LA-3686 includes a 1.4" (35.6mm) and a

2.8" (71.1mm) platen with a 3.0" (76.2mm)
