LOGO DESIGNS

JÓZSEF ATTILA SZÍNHÁZJ +

The identity of the József Attila Theatre is based on a calligraphic logo composed of the initials J and A. I wanted to design something that is elegant but playful at the same time - just like the world of theatre. The color selection also serves elegance, the dark claret is coming from the theatre curtains’ colour. I chose a modern sans-serif font for the calligraphic logo because I wanted to show that even a theatre with classical origins can stand its ground in modern times.

IDENTITY DESIGN FOR A THEATER

The most important ingredient of bread, sun-ripened wheat appears in this logo, reminiscent of Hungarian folk art as well. The gold and brown colours were my choice for this identity because these are the colours of bread and they also make the brand - a brand whose main goal is to make top quality products - a bit more elegant. I used wheat grains in the logo, on the wrapping paper and on the packing. These motifs create a flexible system that provides endless possibilities to design more exciting patterns.

Dublic are a DJ duo made up of twins. The name and the fact that the members look alike gave a perfect opportunity to design an exciting, playful logo. The letters “D” and “C” are two similar signs - symbolising the twins - turned towards each other. The emblem is duplicated and the two layers are moving - when they are overlapping the two different colours create a third one. The idea comes from the double vision anyone can experience on a Dublic show: two similar people on stage creating a unity together.

Wake Up and Wear was a university project to invent and design a fashion application for ASOS. WUW is an application for young people which assists them to decide what to wear before they leave their homes. If they use this application, they can see suggestions and ideas from ASOS clothes after they log in and enter their mood and program for the day ahead. So this is a marketing and a helping application rolled into one, because users can get ideas on how to make new combinations of their own clothes, but if they see something new they like, they can go to the ASOS webpage with a tap and buy it. There is also an option to connect with friends and share chosen outfits and ideas with each other.

The poster of Helsinki is a vector graphic illustration of my experience of the places I visited there. Colours reflect the various moods of the city. The poster was made for the MOI! (‘HI!’ in Finnish) exhibition that I organised after my university’s graphic design department took a trip to the Helsinki Design Week. We drew from this experience to create infographics and other kinds of graphics and also reflected on Scandinavian design with Hungarian eyes.

THE CITY OF HELSINKI

The poster is an illiustration of a Finnish proverb, “Ketut kylpevät” which means “The foxes are taking a shower”. It’s what Finnish people say when the sun is shining and it’s raining at the same time. The poster was made for the MOI! exhibition.

ILLUSTRATION OF A FINNISH PROVERB

These posters were made for a variety of cultural events, like an Ai Wei Wei documentary screening, the Kecskemét Animation Film Festival (KAFF), the Fresh Exhibition for young artists in 2012 and the Amadeus Art Competition for art university students.

This poster series presents the theme “Urban Folklore” with illustrations of traditional and emblematic Hungarian things paired with their modern day, urbanized counterparts: a paprika and paprika puree, a violin and an iPod, a puli (a Hungarian herding dog) with a trendy, shaved poodle. These mixed symbols represent our tradition’s methamorphosis in modern city life.

URBAN FOLKLORE POSTER SERIES

This poster series about enviromental protection emphasizes the importance of paper recycling. The cutting of trees and the disappearance of forests are serious problems because of the decreasing living space of animals. The trophies weredesigned with a 3D program and are made of recycled paper. The posters were 3D designs glued to cardboard wrapped in old wallpaper. “You wouldn’t hurt animals, would you?” - asks the title, bringing the viewers’ attention to the fact that even seemingly unconnected things like recycling can save animal lives.

The Budapest Elswhere photo series is about private residences in Budapest. I took photos about people who are close to me and whose residences I am familiar with. I wanted to show different parts of the city both from the inside and the outside, parts where there are tourist attractions but apartments as well, like the castle disctrict, the Andrássy Avenue, the Museum Quarter or the old housing estates built in the socialist era. These places are available for visitors from the outside, but the insides are still a secret. The montage consists of analog and digital photos.
