El ferry ‘Assalama’ inició su primera travesía hastael puerto de Tarfaya, línea que conecta por primeravez, y que en tan sólo tres horas y cuarenta y cincominutos unirá el archipiélago canario con el continen-te africano. En ferry está diseñado para albergar a 350pasajeros y casi 150 vehículos.

La línea une Puerto del Rosario con Tarfaya tres díasa la semana, miércoles, viernes y domingo. En cuantoa las tarifas, el precio básico en butaca por trayectoes de 49 euros y para los vehículos de 97 euros conreducciones para menores de 26 años y mayores desesenta con un precio inferior a los 45 euros. Existien-do paquetes oferta de dos personas y vehículo, ida yvuelta a 372 euros.

The ferry «Assalama» has made its first crossing tothe harbour of Tarfaya. The crossing takes three hoursand forty five minutes and is the first to ever connectthe Archipelago of the Canaries with the Africancontinent. The ferry has been designed to carry 350passengers and 150 vehicles.

El departamento de Obras y Maquinaria del Cabildocontinuó con los trabajos de rehabilitación de los ele-mentos etnográficos arquitectónicos en toda la cuen-ca del barranco de Guisguey, en la ejecución de unproyecto de elaboración propia que permitirá habilitarpara su cultivo casi 630.000 metros cuadrados degavias delimitadas por 26.700 metros lineales detrastones, en esta población perteneciente al munici-pio de Puerto del Rosario.

El desarrollo de este proyecto ha sido posible graciasa la utilización de la propia maquinaria de la consejeríade Agricultura, Ganadería Pesca e Infraestructuras delCabildo, concretamente seis tractores agrícolas a losque se unirán a partir de enero otros seis.

El Cabildo ha desarrollado acciones similares de re-construcción y acondicionamiento para su uso de ga-vias, trastones, nateros, caños y muros en distintaszonas de la isla como Guisguey, Antigua, Agua de Bue-yes, Tuineje, Pájara o Toto.

«El Campanario» es un nuevo centro comercial enCorralejo, que fue inaugurado ya hace unos meses yque ha llamado nuestra atención por la estética conla que ha sido construido. Parece un pueblecito tradi-cional canario; con su plaza y fuente, balcones y ca-sas de variado colorido, flores, calles estrechas, etc.

Tiene como referencia su campanario, con campa-nas que tañen y además se puede ascender a él yapreciar una magnífica vista desde donde se contem-pla todo Corralejo, Lobos y también Lanzarote.

Su director Juan Antonio Hernández, de origen go-mero y muy amante de su tierra canaria, esta procu-rando darle el mayor tipismo y sabor, para que todoslos que lo visiten puedan sentirse imbuidos por el en-torno.¿Tenía experiencia en la dirección de centroscomerciales?

No, es la primera vez, es un nuevo reto en mi vida.Mi carácter es lanzado y la idea de comenzar algo nue-vo siempre me gusta. Me gusta aprender día a día yeste trabajo me esta aportando muchas cosas dife-rentes.

También es verdad que es un trabajo absorbente ytodos los comienzos son de muchas horas y respon-sabilidad. Por suerte tengo un gran equipo humanoque me esta ayudando mucho en esta labor.¿Vino a Fuerteventura para abrir este centro?

No, yo ya estaba aquí desde hacía tres años en unpuesto ejecutivo de otra empresa. Me ofrecieron ve-nirme aquí y me pareció una buena idea el cambio.¿Anteriormente cual era su profesión?

Vengo del sector turístico, fui muchos años directorde un centro acuático en Tenerife y posteriormenteseguí en el mismo campo aquí, en Fuerteventura.

«Evitaremos desplazamientos innecesariosa los residentes de Corralejo»

Los propietarios de El Campanario, ¿son canarios?Sí, es una empresa canaria que ha apostado por este

centro, con la idea de poder cubrir las necesidades dela gente que vive en el norte de la isla, además delturismo local.

La idea principal es darle servicio a la gente de Co-rralejo y alrededores sin que tengan que desplazarsemuchos kilómetros a la vez que lograr convertir el Cen-tro en un punto de encuentro para todos.

El día 24 de noviembre pasado hicimos la inaugura-ción de la iluminación navideña, que ha sido una delas mayores de Europa en centros comerciales. Tam-bién hemos celebrado el 1er Concurso de VillancicosCanarios con un premio en metálico de 9.000 •. Hanparticipado grupos de Las Palmas. Los programas han

sido televisados en el Canal 9 de televisión local.También pensamos que debemos ser solidarios y

aportar nuestro granito de arena. Una tradición quese estaba perdiendo es la recogida de juguetes paralos niños más necesitados y se va a realizar aquí esteaño, por primera vez y a través de televisión.

Una O.N.G. será la encargada de repartirlos poste-riormente dentro y fuera de la isla en los lugares don-de más se necesiten.

Un paje de los Reyes Magos tendrá regalitos paratodos los niños que vengan a colaborar trayendo ju-guetes ese día y así enseñarles lo bonita que es laexperiencia de «dar».

Esperamos que todos los niños se animen ha parti-cipar y los esperamos desde el día primero de enerode este nuevo año que comienza.

QUIÉN ES QUIÉN EN LA ISLA / WHO’S WHO IN THE ISLAND? /WER IST WER AUF DER INSEL?

El Campanario is a new commercial centre in Corra-lejo that was inaugurated a few months ago; itsdistinctive architecture caught our attention. It lookslike a small traditional village, with its square andfountain, balconies and multicoloured houses, flowers,narrow streets, etc.

It is built around the church tower, with its workingbells, which can be visited to admire the fantastic viewsof Corralejo, Los Lobos Island and Lanzarote.

The director, Juan Antonio Hernández, from LaGomera originally, and proud of his origins, is workingon bringing out the Canary Islands’ best local coloursand flavours, so that every visitor feels inspired by itssurroundings.Did you have previous experience as commercialcentre director?

No, it is the first time for me and a new challenge inmy life. I am an enterprising person and always keenon starting something new. I like to learn every dayand this job has taught me a lot. It is a very demandingjob that involves many hours of work andresponsibilities. But I am lucky to be surrounded witha great team who helps me a lot.

Did you come to Fuerteventura to open this centre?No, I had been here for three years already working

as a manager for another company. I was offered thisopportunity which sounded like an interesting change.Previously, what did you do?

I come from the tourist sector, I was director of anaquatic centre in Tenerife for many years and Icontinued in this sector in Fuerteventura.Are the owners of El Campanario of Canarianorigins?

Yes, it belongs to a Canarian company. They createdit with the objective of attending the needs of peoplewho live in the north of the island and for the localtourist trade.

The main idea is to bring a local service for peoplefrom Corralejo and surrounding areas, saving themfrom travelling and create meeting point.You were telling me that there are many new ideasfor this centre, tell us of a few.

On 24th November the Christmas lights inaugurationtook place, it is one of the largest in Europe. It is alsowhen the 1st Canarian Carols Competition started, with

its 9.000 euros cash prize for the winners. Groups fromLas Palmas came to participate and the programmewas shown on television on channel 9.

We also believe in generosity and sharing. There is atradition that is being left behind, which is the toyscollect for children in need and we will organise onehere this year for the first time and on television.

A Non-Governmental Organisation will take care ofthe toys distribution on the island and outside theisland, where they are most needed.

The Three Wise Men’s page will hand out a presentto all children who will participate to the distributionon that day, which will teach them how good it feels to«give».

We hope that many children will participate and weare waiting for them from the 1st January.


El Campanario ist ein neues Einkaufszentrum inCorralejo, das schon vor einigen Monaten eröffnetwurde. Wir sind aufgrund des ästhetischen Bausdarauf aufmerksam geworden. Es sieht aus wie einkleines traditionelles kanarisches Dorf, mit einem Platzund einem Brunnen, Balkons und Häusern inverschiedenen Farben, Blumen, engen Gassen usw.

Der Bezugspunkt des Zentrums ist der Glockenturm,dessen Glocken läuten. Man kann auch auf ihn steigenund sich über einen großartigen Ausblick freuen: Man siehtvon dort aus ganz Corralejo, Lobos und auch Lanzarote.

Der Direktor des Einkaufszentrums, Juan AntonioHernández, der aus la Gomera stammt und seinekanarische Heimat sehr liebt, bemüht sich darum, dassdieses so typisch und geschmackvoll wie möglich ist,damit sich alle Besucher von der Umgebungeingenommen fühlen.Hatten Sie Erfahrung als Direktor vonEinkaufszentren?

Nein, es ist das erste Mal. Es ist eine neueHerausforderung in meinem Leben. Ich habe einendraufgängerischen Charakter und es macht mir immerSpaß, etwas Neues anzufangen. Ich lerne gerne jedenTag etwas Neues, und durch diese Arbeit habe ich mitvielen verschiedenen Dingen zu tun.

Nein, ich war schon drei Jahre hier, ich hatte eineleitende Stelle in einem anderen Unternehmen. Mirwurde diese Stelle angeboten, und der Wechsel schienmir eine gute Idee.Welchen Beruf hatten Sie vorher?

Ich komme aus der Tourismusbranche, für viele Jahrewar ich Direktor eines Wassersportzentrums aufTeneriffa, und dann habe ich im gleichen Bereich hierauf Fuerteventura weiter gemacht.Sind die Besitzer von El Campanario Kanaren?

Ja, es ist ein kanarisches Unternehmen, das diesesZentrum betreibt. Es wurde beabsichtigt, alleBedürfnisse der Bewohner des Nordens sowie desörtlichen Tourismus abzudecken.

Es ist vor allem beabsichtigt, einen Service für dieMenschen aus Corralejo und Umgebung zugewährleisten, ohne dass diese lange fahren müssen.Hier entsteht ein Treffpunkt für alle.Sie haben mir berichtet, dass es in diesemZentrum viel Neues geben wird. Erzählen Sie mirbitte etwas darüber.

Am 24. November haben wir die Weihnachtsbeleuchtungeröffnet, es war eine der größten der europäischenEinkaufszentren. Außerdem fand der 1. Wettbewerb fürkanarische Weihnachtslieder mit einem Geld-Preis im Wertvon 9.000 • statt. Es haben Gruppen aus Las Palmas daranteilgenommen. Die Programme wurden im Fernsehen vonKanal 9 übertragen.

Außerdem sind wir der Meinung, dass wir solidarischsein und unser Scherflein beisteuern müssen. DasSammeln von Spielzeug für bedürftige Kinder ist eineTradition, die dabei war, verloren zu gehen. Es wird die-ses Jahr hier stattfinden, zum ersten Mal übersFernsehen.

Eine Nichtregierungsorganisation wird damitbeauftragt, das Spielzeug später auf der Insel undaußerhalb an den Orten zu verteilen, wo es amnötigsten ist.

Ein Diener der heiligen drei Könige wird kleineGeschenke an alle Kinder verteilen, die sich beteiligenund an diesem Tag Spielzeug bringen. So lernen sie,dass «geben» eine schöne Erfahrung ist.

Wir hoffen, dass alle Kinder daran teilnehmen werden.Wir erwarten sie ab dem 1. Januar des neuen Jahres.



¿QUÉ PASA EN TU MUNICIPIO?WAS GESCHIEHT IN DEINER GEMEINDE?WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR MUNICIPALITY?

CAMPAÑA DE AHORRO ENERGÉTICOY DE RECURSOS

Esta campaña consiste en transformar el propio edi-ficio del Ayuntamiento en ejemplo de sostenibilidad,de ahí que las distintas iniciativas abordarán el reci-claje de papel con la ubicación de papeleras especia-les. En el mismo sentido se han instalado en las cis-ternas de todos los servicios que se localizan en lasdependencias municipales, unos reductores para mi-nimizar el caudal de agua, ahorrando unos 4000 li-tros de agua por persona y año.

Asimismo, en los grifos se podrá comprobar la insta-lación de un dispositivo denominado «perlizador», eneste caso de baño, que permite reducir también elconsumo de agua ahorrando entre un 20% y un 50%.

ENERGY SAVING CAMPAIGNThis campaign consists in transforming the

Ayuntamiento’s building into an example of supportwith various initiatives such as paper recycling thanksto special paper waste bins. Furthermore, all servicessituated in municipal buildings have been fitted withtanks and special installations to save water usage,

which will save about 4000 litres of water per personper year.

Taps will also be fitted with a device called«perlizador», in this instance for the bathrooms, whichwill also reduce water consumption by 20 to 50%.

KAMPAGNE FÜR ENERGIESPAREN UNDANDERES

Diese Kampagne besteht darin, aus dem Rathausselbst ein Beispiel für Nachhaltigkeit zu machen, dortbeginnen verschiedene Initiativen für dieWiederverwertung von Papier durch das Aufstellen vonbesonderen Papierkörben. Außerdem wurden in denZisternen aller Toiletten der Dependancen der StadtReduktoren eingerichtet, um die Wassermenge zuverringern. Dadurch werden im Jahr ungefähr 4000Liter Wasser pro Person gespart.

Auch an den Wasserhähnen der Bäder wird ein Gerätinstalliert, durch das es ermöglicht wird, denWasserverbrauch zu reduzieren und 20% bis 50% zusparen.

NUEVA CAMPAÑA DE LIMPIEZAEN PLAYAS

El Ayuntamiento coordina, desde el pasado 3 de di-ciembre, una nueva campaña de limpieza en las pla-yas del municipio. Esta actuación, que se extenderádurante 5 meses, se realiza gracias a la colaboraciónde la Mancomunidad Centro Norte y posibilitará lim-piar a fondo todas las playas del municipio de La Olivacomenzando por Piedra Playa, en El Cotillo, y conti-nuando por toda la costa hasta llegar a Corralejo.

NEW BEACH CLEANING CAMPAIGNThe Ayuntamiento started a new beach cleaning

campaign on 3rd December on the beaches of themunicipality. This action will continue for 5 months andis carried out thanks to the collaboration of the North-Centre Man-Community which will allow the deepcleaning of the beached of La Olivia’s municipalitystarting with the Piedra Playa in El Cotillo and willcontinue along the coast until Corralejo.

NEUE KAMPAGNE FÜR SAUBERESTRÄNDE

Die Gemeinde koordiniert seit dem 3. Dezember dieneue Kampagne für die Reinigung der Strände derGemeinde. Diese wird 5 Monate dauern, sie wird dankder Mitarbeit der Gemeinschaft Zentrum-Nordendurchgeführt, und sie wird es ermöglichen, alle Strändeder Gemeinde La Oliva zu reinigen. Man wird mit Pie-dra Playa in El Cotillo beginnen und dann die ganzeKüste bis Corralejo säubern.

LA OBRA «COMPARSA SUBMARINA»ANUNCIARÁ EL CARNAVAL

DE CORRALEJO 2008Libertad Rivas, vecina de Villaverde, ha ganado el

concurso con un trabajo basado en distintas técnicasde tratamiento de imágenes.

La obra Comparsa Submarina, una propuesta de lavecina de Villaverde, Libertad Rivas, ha ganado el con-curso organizado por la Concejalía de Festejos, paracontar con el cartel anunciador de los Carnavales deCorralejo, que se celebrarán del 27 de febrero al 9 demarzo.

El fondo del mar es la temática sobre la que versa-rán las próximas carnestolendas, que contarán convarias sorpresas, como la celebración de la tradicio-nal Verbena del Sábado.

El jurado eligió el trabajo Comparsa Submarina, unapropuesta que se apoya en distintas técnicas de trata-miento de imágenes como ganador del concurso.

Submarine depth is the theme of the Carnival whenvarious events will be organised such as the traditionalcelebration of Saturday’s Street Party.

DAS WERK «COMPARSA SUBMARINA»WIRD DEN KARNEVAL VON CORRALEJO

2008 ANKÜNDIGENLibertad Rivas, eine Bürgerin aus Villaverde, gewann

den Wettbewerb mit einer Arbeit, bei der verschiedeneTechniken der Bildbearbeitung eingesetzt wurden.

Das Werk „Comparsa Submarina» (Unterwasser-Komparsin), ein Entwurf der Bürgerin aus VillaverdeLibertad Rivas, gewann den Wettbewerb, der vom Amtfür Feste organisiert worden war, um das Plakat fürden Karneval von Corralejo zu gestalten, der vom 27.Februar bis zum 9. März stattfinden wird.

Der Meeresgrund ist das Thema, das die nächsten„Carnestolendas» (die drei letzten Tage derKarnevalszeit) inspirieren wird. Dazu werden mehrereÜberraschungen gehören sowie die Veranstaltung destraditionellen Volksfestes am Samstag.

Die Jury wählte das Werk „Comparsa Submarina»,aus, bei dem verschiedene Techniken derBildbearbeitung eingesetzt wurden.

El Ayuntamiento de La Oliva ha sido una de las tresinstituciones canarias premiadas en la convocatoriaSímbolos Institucionales de Canarias 2007. La Con-sejería de Presidencia del Ejecutivo volvió a convocareste año el certamen, con la intención de potenciarlos símbolos de identidad de Canarias, es decir, labandera, el escudo y el himno.

Trece de los alumnos participantes hicieron por undía de alcalde y concejales en una sesión plenaria.Los alumnos plantearon sus propuestas ante la aten-ta mirada del alcalde y de la mayor parte de los conce-jales del ayuntamiento.

Las propuestas de los alumnos se refirieron, entre otrosasuntos, a la mejora de las instalaciones del CEO de An-tigua, a la creación de un centro de salud y guardería,ampliación del alumbrado, creación de parques infanti-les en los pueblos, habilitación de zonas verdes, etc.

INFANTILE SESSIONAround fifty pupils from secondary education 4th year

from Antigua participated to activities organised by theAyuntamiento’s Culture Council at the occasion of thecommemoration of Spanish Constitution. Thirteenpupils became mayor and councillors for one day.Children made proposals to the attentive Mayor andmost of the Ayuntamiento’s Councillors during asession.

The pupils’ proposals were, amongst other subjects,about improving the installations of Antigua’s CEO,creating a Heath Centre and nursery, improve streetlighting, create playgrounds in villages, improve greenareas, etc.

Zu den Vorschlägen der Schüler gehörten unteranderem die Verbesserung der Installationen des CEOvon Antigua, die Schaffung eines Gesundheitszentrumsund eines Kindergartens, mehr Beleuchtung, dieEinrichtung von Kinderspielplätzen in den Dörfern unddie Herrichtung von grünen Zonen usw.

EL AYUNTAMIENTO PROMUEVE YA LAPARTICIPACIÓN EN SUS CARNAVALES

Dos jóvenes estudiantes vestidos de mexicanos, re-correrán las calles de la localidad de Gran Tarajal, cada

quince días, repartiendo folletos animando a todos losgrupos del Carnaval, murgas, comparsas, gruposcoreográficos, y candidatas a reina, a participar de losCarnavales del municipio de Tuineje, que este año es-tarán dedicados a México. Es la peculiar iniciativa queha puesto en marcha el Ayuntamiento de Tuineje, através de la concejalía de Festejos, adelantándose asía la celebración del Carnaval, con el propósito de di-namizar e ir fomentando ya, entre los vecinos del mu-nicipio, la implicación con estos carnavales.

This pecu-liar initiative from Tuineje’s Ayuntamiento, through theFestivals Council, is making headway with theCarnival’s celebration by motivating people’simplication in the Carnivals.

DIE GEMEINDE FÖRDERT DIEBETEILIGUNG AM KARNEVAL

Zwei als Mexikaner verkleidete Studenten werden allefünfzehn Tage durch die Straßen dieses zu Gran Tarajalgehörenden Ortes gehen und Prospekte verteilen, durchdie sämtliche Karnevalsgruppen, Murgas (traditionelleGruppen von Straßenmusikanten), Komparsen,Tanzgruppen und Kandidatinnen, die Königin werdenmöchten, dazu aufgefordert werden, am Karneval vonTuineje teilzunehmen, der dieses Jahr Mexiko gewidmetist. Das Amt für Feste hat diese bemerkenswerte Initiativein Tuineje in Gang gesetzt und hat damit die Ausführungdes Karnevals vorverlegt, um unter den Bürgern derGemeinde die Teilnahme am Karneval zu fördern.

Hay capítulos de nuestra historia reciente que pare-cen sacados de una novela de intriga histórica o deespionaje internacional. ¿Cómo se quedarían si les digoque, durante los años de la Segunda Guerra Mundial,submarinos de la Alemania nazi pasaron por nuestrospuertos? ¿O que en nuestra geografía, probablemen-te, anduvieron agentes secretos del régimen alemán?

No es descabellado pensar en la posibilidad de Ca-narias como escala para los submarinos alemanes, aligual que podía serlo para los navíos aliados. Nuestroarchipiélago era zona de paso para los submarinos,que recorrían de norte a sur el Atlántico. En nuestrospuertos podrían repostar y avituallarse. Buena pruebade lo que apuntamos es la existencia de numerososde estos submarinos hundidos en nuestras aguas. En1943, el cañonero inglés Rochester, hundió al U135,comandado por el alférez Otto Luther, frente a la cos-ta suroeste de Fuerteventura. En nuestra geografía sedieron numerosos episodios similares que hacen pen-sar que estábamos en el punto de mira de los bandosde la contienda. De hecho, Winston Churchill, tendríaun plan para invadir Canarias, en el supuesto caso deque Franco tomara partido por los alemanes.

El papel de neutralidad de la España de Franco du-rante la guerra, ha sido más que puesto en dudas pormuchos autores. Aunque nuestro país no participaraactivamente en el conflicto, sí parece claro que dio cier-to apoyo logístico y mantuvo tímidas relaciones con elrégimen de Hitler.

Dentro de este contexto aparece nuestro protago-nista, Gustav Winter. El señor Winter, ingeniero indus-trial, llegó a España en 1912 y, tras construir variascentrales eléctricas en la península ibérica, llega aCanarias, en 1926, mandado por el ministro de indus-tria de entonces, Antonio Goicoechea. En Las Palmasde Gran Canaria, inaugura, el CICER, la actual UNELCO.

Gustav Winter, tras un viaje con su yate Argo, cono-ce las costas de Fuerteventura. Al contemplar la zonade Cofete, en Jandía, se habría quedado prendado dela belleza del lugar. Tras dejar su puesto en el CICER,decide comprar la península de Jandía, en 1937. Se-gún nos contaban los vecinos de Morro Jable, era unhombre muy influyente, con capacidad de convocar ala Guardia Civil si surgía algún problema.

En este paraje idílico de Cofete, decide levantar uncurioso edificio que dispararía, definitivamente la le-yenda. Una leyenda que vincularía a Winter con el ré-gimen alemán de entonces. Una leyenda que se haido alimentando con el tiempo, sobre todo tras la pu-blicación del libro «Fuerteventura» de Alberto VázquezFigueroa. Vázquez Figueroa, en su novela ambientadaen los años de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, sitúa en laisla majorera unas instalaciones secretas alemanas,a las que llegarían los submarinos a través de unacueva y que, a la postre, constituirían una zona dedescanso para las tripulaciones, cuando no, una suer-te de burdel donde se celebraban fiestas hasta altashoras de la madrugada.

La enigmática casa Winter

Vicente, un amigo majorero que trabaja en LOPESAN,la empresa actualmente propietaria de la casa, noscomentaba que, Vázquez Figueroa viajó a Fuerteven-tura con la idea de profundizar en sus experimentospara extraer agua del subsuelo en zonas áridas. Sequedó impactado al observar la casa de Cofete y, trasconocer su historia, encontró su inspiración para sunovela, que no deja de ser un relato de ficción.

Al asomarnos a Cofete, encontramos una estampaque no se olvida. Una playa kilométrica, de aguas cris-talinas, en la que no se adivina ni a un alma que, en-seguida de funde con una formación montañosa quese eleva de manera espectacular. En medio de tandesolador paisaje, la villa Winter, una especie decastillito con su torreta, que levanta todo tipo de sos-pechas. ¿Qué hace aquella construcción allí?

Acudimos al inmueble junto al investigador JaimeRubio. Ciertamente, desde la casa se divisa una pa-norámica excepcional del horizonte, mirando hacia elmar. Probablemente, la torreta, cumplía las funcionesde vigilancia. Los sótanos tienen zonas, en las que haytabiques recientes, como impidiendo determinadosaccesos. Curiosamente, en esta zona de la casa, si sepisa fuerte, se oye un retumbar subterráneo, como siestuviera hueco ¿Habría una cueva bajo la casa? ¿Se-ría, quizás, un acceso para los submarinos que llega-ban del mar?

Lo cierto es que la costa de Jandía ha sido inspec-cionada por submarinistas que no han encontrado nin-guna cueva que permita el paso a la casa desde elmar. Además, la costa de Cofete es muy poco profun-da, lo que impide físicamente, el acercamiento de nin-gún submarino.

La familia está harta de desmentir rumores, comoel que, según una muy famosa revista de tirada nacio-nal, la casa sería el refugio de Hitler cuando terminarala guerra. Juan Carlos Winter, uno de los hijos de Gustavnos concedió una entrevista en Las Palmas. Exaltó lafigura de su padre, argumentando que cuando llegó aFuerteventura, llevó la luz, ayudó a la construcción decolegios, carreteras,...

Según Juan Carlos, un dato que desvincula a la casade su posible función de apoyo a los submarinos seríala fecha de su construcción, 1946, es decir, una vezfinalizada la guerra. Sin embargo, en Cofete, habla-mos con un vecino, un hombre, ya de cierta edad, quetrabajó en la construcción del inmueble, a las ordenesdel señor Winter. Él afirma que la casa se construyóen 1940, en pleno conflicto.

En fin, el tema sigue abierto. Sin duda, la rumorologíase ha encargado de engordar la leyenda. Es cuestiónde seguir recogiendo datos.

Some chapters of our recent history look like theywere taken from an historical intrigue or internationalespionage novel. What would you think if I told you that,during the Second World War, German Nazi submarinesused to dock in our harbours? Or that some secretGerman agents probably came to hide in ourcountryside?

It is not so irrational to think that the Canaries couldhave been a stop over for German submarines; it couldequally have been one for Allied ships. Our archipelagoused to be a passing area for submarines that weretravelling from the North to the South of the Atlantic.They could have come to rest and gather provisions inour harbours. A valid proof of our theory is the existenceof many of those submarines that sunk in our waters.In 1943, the English gunboat Rochester, sunk theU135, who the second lieutenant Otto Luther wascommanding, close to the south west coast of Fuerte-ventura. Many similar events occurred that lead tobelieve that we were watched by the opponent.Furthermore Winston Churchill would have had a planto invade the Canaries in case Franco decided to sidewith the Germans.

The neutrality of Franco’s Spain during the war wasdoubted about by many authors. Although our countrydid not participate actively in the conflict, it clearlyhelped on the logistics and had a very shy relationshipwith Hitler’s regime.

It is within this context that Gustav Winter, ourprotagonist came about. Mr. Winter was an industrialengineer and arrived in Spain in 1912. After buildingvarious electric plants on the Mainland, he was sentto the Canaries in 1926 by Antonio Goicoechea, theIndustry Minister. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria heinaugurated the CICER, now known as UNELCO.

The enigmatic Casa WinterGustav Winter discovered the coasts of Fuerteven-

tura during a trip on his yacht, Argo. He was taken bythe beauty of the area of Cofete and Jandía. Afterleaving his duties at CICER, he decided to buy theJandía peninsula in 1937. We were told by people inMorro Jable that he used to be very influential and couldcall the Guardia Civil in case of trouble.

It is in the idyllic scenery of Cofete where he decidedto build a curious building, which definitely lead on tothe legend. The legend links Winter to the Germanregime. The legend was fuelled thanks to the time thatwent by and especially after the publication of the book«Fuerteventura» of Alberto Vazquez Figueroa. Thisnovel’s story takes place during the Second World Waron the Majorero Island where submarines wouldaccess a secret German base through a cave, whichwould be used as a resting place for the crew at timesor as a kind of brothel where parties would take placeuntil early hours in the morning.

Vicente, a friend who works at LOPESAN, thecompany that owns the house at present, told us thatVásquez Figueroa travelled to Fuerteventura in orderto continue his experiments on extracting water fromthe soil in arid areas. The house in Cofete made quitean impression on him and this is how he found hisinspiration for his novel, which is pure fiction.

Arriving in Cofete, we are greeted by an unforgettablescenery; a deserted long beach with crystal clear waterwhich leads to a spectacular mountain range. Amongstthis desolate landscape sits Casa Winter, a small castlelike building with a tower that has been the source ofso many suspicions. Why was such a house built here?

We made our way to the property with the investigatorJaime Rubio. The villa benefits from exceptionalpanoramic views of the ocean. The tower was probably

used as a watch tower. Some of the basements areashave been recently bricked up preventing any access.Curiously in this part of the house, when one stepshard on the floor an underground echo can be heard,as if it was hollow. Could there be an undergroundcave? Could it be an access way for submarine crewsarriving from the shore?

What is certain is that the Jandía coast was inspectedby divers who never found any type of cave that couldhave been used to reach the house from the shore.Furthermore, the Cofete coast is shallow which wouldmake it physically impossible for any submarine to getclose.

The family has given up denying rumours such asone from a very famous national magazine that impliedthat this house would have been the hiding place ofHitler when the war ended. Juan Carlos Winter, one ofGustav’s children met us for an interview in Las Pal-mas. He proudly described his father saying that whenhe moved to Fuerteventura, his father broughtelectricity, helped to build schools and roads, etc.

According to Juan Carlos one fact proves that thehouse could not have had anything to do with warsubmarines, which is the date when it was built, in1946, after the war had ended. However, in Cofete, wespoke to an elderly man who worked on the buildingsite for Mr. Winter, who confirmed that the house wasbuilt in 1940, during the conflict.

All in all, the mystery remains. Without a doubt, therumours have fuelled the legend. It is now a case ofcontinuing to gather facts. Trust us… this is exactly whatwe are doing.

Wie würden Siedarauf reagieren, wenn ich Ihnen sagen würde, dasssich zur Zeit des zweiten Weltkrieges Unterseebooteaus dem Nazi-Deutschland in unseren Häfenaufhielten? Oder dass sich wahrscheinlichGeheimagenten des deutschen Regimes in unseremTerritorium bewegten?

Es ist nicht unsinnig, an die Möglichkeit zu denken,dass die Kanaren den deutschen Unterseeboten zurZwischenlandung dienten, genau wie sie dafür vonSchiffen der Alliierten genutzt werden konnten. UnserArchipel war der Durchgangsraum für dieUnterseeboote, die von Norden nach Süden durch denAtlantik fuhren. In unseren Häfen konnten sie Treibstoffaufnehmen und sich mit und Proviant versorgen. Einguter Beweis für das, worauf wir hinweisen, ist dieTatsache, dass sich in unseren Gewässern zahlreichedieser untergegangenen Unterseeboote befinden.1943 versenkte das englische Kanonenboot Rochesterdas von Leutnant Otto Luther befehligte U135 vor dersüdöstlichen Küste von Fuerteventura. In unseremTerritorium ereigneten sich zahlreiche derartigeEpisoden, weshalb man vermuten kann, dass wir unsim Blickpunkt der Kriegsparteien befanden. In der Tathatte Winston Churchill den Plan, die Kanaren zubesetzen, falls Franco für die Deutschen Parteiergreifen würde.

Die Neutralität des Franco-Spaniens während desKrieges ist von vielen Autoren bezweifelt worden.Obwohl sich unser Land nicht aktiv an diesem Konfliktbeteiligte, scheint es eindeutig, dass es eine gewisse

In diesem Zusammenhang tritt unser ProtagonistGustav Winter in Erscheinung. Herr Winter, einIndustrieingenieur, kam 1912 nach Spanien, undnachdem er auf der iberischen Halbinsel mehrereElektrizitätswerke gebaut hatte, wurde er 1926 vondem damaligen Industrieminister Antonio Goicoecheaauf die Kanaren geschickt. In Las Palmas de GranCanaria eröffnete er CICER, die heutige UNELCO.

Gustav Winter lernte die Küste von Fuerteventura beieine Reise mit seiner Yacht kenn. Es heißt, dass er, alser die Gegend von Cofete, in Jandía, erblickte, von derSchönheit des Ortes überwältigt war. Nachdem er seineStelle bei CICER aufgegeben hatte, beschloss er 1937,die Halbinsel von Jandía zu kaufen. Nach Angaben derAnwohner von Morro Jable war er ein sehreinflussreicher Mann, der in der Lage war, im Falleeines Problems die Guardia Civil zu rufen.

In dieser idyllischen Gegend von Cofete beschlosser, ein merkwürdiges Gebäude zu errichten, wodurchdie Legende endgültig verbreitet werden sollte. EineLegende, welche Winter mit dem damaligen deutschenRegime in Zusammenhang brachte. Diese Legendewurde mit der Zeit angereichert, vor allem nach derVeröffentlichung des Buches «Fuerteventura» von Al-berto Vazquez Figueroa. In seinem Roman, der imzweiten Weltkrieg spielt, platziert Vazquez Figueroa aufder Insel Fuerteventura geheime deutscheEinrichtungen, welche von den Unterseebooten durcheine Grotte erreicht wurden, und die angeblich zu guterLetzt einen Erholungsort für die Besatzungendarstellten, wenn nicht sogar eine Art Bordell, wo bis

früh morgens gefeiert wurde.Vicente, ein Freund aus Fuerteventura, der bei

LOPESAN arbeitet, der Firma, welche heute das Hausbesitzt, erzählte uns, dass Vázquez Figueroa mit derAbsicht nach Fuerteventura gekommen ist, seine Ex-perimente für die Gewinnung von Wasser aus demUntergrund in trockenen Gegenden zu vertiefen. Er warsehr beeindruckt, als er das Haus in Cofete sah, undals er von dessen Geschichte erfuhr, ließ er sich dazuinspirieren, seinen Roman zu schreiben. Dieser istallerdings eine erfundene Geschichte.

Wenn wir auf Cofete schauen, sehen wir ein Bild,das man nicht mehr vergisst. Ein kilometerlangerStrand mit kristallklarem Wasser, wo man sich keineSeele vorstellen kann und der sofort mit einergebirgigen Formation verschmilzt, welche sich aufspektakuläre Weise erhebt. Mitten in diesererschütternden Landschaft befindet sich die VillaWinter, eine Art Schlösschen mit einem kleinen Turm,was Mutmaßungen jeder Art auslöst. Was macht die-ses Gebäude dort?

Wir begaben uns gemeinsam mit dem Forsche Jai-me Rubio zu der Immobilie. Es steht fest, dass man,wenn man in Richtung Meer schaut, von dem Hausaus einen außergewöhnlichen Ausblick auf denHorizont hat. Wahrscheinlich war der kleine Turm zurÜberwachung bestimmt. In einigen Teilen des Kellersgibt es neue Trennwände, die bestimmte Zugänge zuverbergen scheinen. Es ist bemerkenswert, dass manin diesem Teil des Hauses, wenn man stark auftritt,einen unterirdischen Widerhall hört, als ob es ein Echogebe. Gab es eine Höhle? War diese vielleicht einZugang für Unterseeboote, die aus dem Meer kamen?

Die Familie ist es leid, Gerüchte abzustreiten wiejenes, dass einer sehr bekannten spanischenZeitschrift zufolge das Haus nach Ende des KriegesHitlers Zufluchtsort gewesen sein soll. Juan CarlosWinter, einer der Söhne von Gustav, gab uns einInterview in Las Palmas. Er pries seinen Vater mit demArgument, dass dieser, als er nach Fuerteventura kam,an dem Bau von Schulen, Autobahnen usw. beteiligtwar.

Juan Carlos behauptet, dass eine Tatsache, die dasHaus von seiner möglicher Funktion als Stützpunkt fürUnterseeboote entbinde, dessen Baudatum sei: 1946,denn zu diesem Zeitpunkt war der Krieg schon zu Ende.Wir sprachen jedoch mit einem Anwohner von Cofete,einem alten Mann, der bei dem Bau der Immobilie fürHerrn Winter gearbeitet hat. Er behauptet, das Haussei 1940, mitten im Krieg, gebaut worden.

El pasado viernes 14 de diciembre el profesional del club Patxi Amatriain realizó un clinic de golfpara los socios, propietarios de las villas e hijos, al cual asistieron unas 25 personas y donde seexplicó, de una manera muy divertida, varios fundamentos del golf. Los participantes pasaron unrato muy agradable con juegos y bromas. Próximamente se realizarán otros clinics.

El sábado 15 de diciembre se celebró el torneo de Navidad del Fuerteventura Golf Club. Con unaexcelente participación de jugadores de la isla de Fuerteventura, 72 en total y con unas condicio-nes meteorológicas diferentes a las habituales.

¿QUÉ OBLIGACIONES TIENE LA COMUNIDAD DEPROPIETARIOS?

1. Será obligación de la comunidad la realizaciónde las obras necesarias para el adecuado sosteni-miento y conservación del inmueble y de sus servi-cios, de modo que reúna las debidas condicionesestructurales, de estanqueidad, habitabilidad, acce-sibilidad y seguridad.

2. Asimismo, la comunidad, a instancia de los pro-pietarios en cuya vivienda vivan, trabajen o prestensus servicios altruistas o voluntarios personas condiscapacidad, o mayores de setenta años, vendráobligada a realizar las obras de accesibilidad quesean necesarias para un uso adecuado a su disca-pacidad de los elementos comunes, o para la insta-lación de dispositivos mecánicos y electrónicos quefavorezcan su comunicación con el exterior, cuyoimporte total no exceda de tres mensualidades ordi-narias de gastos comunes.

3. Los propietarios que se opongan o demoreninjustificadamente la ejecución de las órdenes dic-tadas por la autoridad competente responderán in-dividualmente de las sanciones que puedan impo-nerse en vía administrativa.

4. En caso de discrepancia sobre la naturaleza delas obras a realizar resolverá lo procedente la juntade propietarios. También podrán los interesados so-licitar arbitraje o dictamen técnico en los términosestablecidos en la Ley.

5. Al pago de los gastos derivados de la realiza-

ción de las obras de conservación y accesibilidad aque se refiere el presente artículo estará afecto elpiso o local en los mismos términos y condicionesque los establecidos para los gastos generales.

¿CUÁLES SON LOS CARGOS OBLIGATORIOS DELA COMUNIDAD?

La ley establece una serie de órganos de gobier-no, que son: La Junta de propietarios.

a. El presidente y, en su caso, los vicepresidentes.b. El secretario.c. El administrador.En los estatutos, o por acuerdo mayoritario de la

Junta de propietarios, podrán establecerse otros ór-ganos de gobierno de la comunidad, sin que ello pue-da suponer menoscabo alguno de las funciones yresponsabilidades frente a terceros que esta Ley atri-buye a los anteriores. El presidente será nombrado,entre los propietarios, mediante elección o,subsidiariamente, mediante turno rotatorio o sorteo.El nombramiento será obligatorio, si bien el propie-tario designado podrá solicitar su relevo al juez den-tro del mes siguiente a su acceso al cargo, invocan-do las razones que le asistan para ello. El juez resol-verá de plano lo procedente, designando en la mis-ma resolución al propietario que hubiera de susti-tuir, en su caso, al presidente en el cargo hasta quese proceda a nueva designación en el plazo que sedetermine en la resolución judicial. El presidenteostentará legalmente la representación de la comu-

nidad, en juicio y fuera de el, en todos los asuntosque la afecten. La existencia de vicepresidentes seráfacultativa. Su nombramiento se realizará por el mis-mo procedimiento que el establecido para la desig-nación del presidente. Corresponde al vicepresiden-te, o a los vicepresidentes por su orden, sustituir alpresidente en los casos de ausencia, vacante o im-posibilidad de éste, así como asistirlo en el ejerciciode sus funciones en los términos que establezca laJunta de propietarios. Las funciones del secretario ydel administrador serán ejercidas por el presidentede la comunidad, salvo que los estatutos o la Juntade propietarios por acuerdo mayoritario, disponganla previsión de dichos cargos separadamente de lapresidencia. Los cargos de secretario y administra-dor podrán acumularse en una misma persona o biennombrarse independientemente. El cargo de admi-nistrador en su caso, el de secretario y administra-dor podrá ser ejercido por cualquier propietario, asícomo por personas físicas con cualificación profe-sional suficiente y legalmente reconocidas para ejer-cer dichas funciones. También podrá recaer en cor-poraciones y otras personas jurídicas en los térmi-nos establecidos en el ordenamiento jurídico. Salvoque los estatutos de la comunidad dispongan lo con-trario, el nombramiento de los órganos de gobiernose hará por el plazo de un año. Los designados po-drán ser removidos de su cargo antes de la expira-ción del mandato por acuerdo de la Junta de propie-tarios, convocada en sesión extraordinaria.

Además tuve la ventaja de estudiar mi profesión conHelmut Alebracht, uno de los mejores maestros y elprivilegio de trabajar con él por más de quince años.Hoy es muy frecuente el consumo de bollería yrepostería industrial, ¿cree usted que su productoartesanal puede competir con ello?

Nosotros controlamos con esmero la calidad denuestras materias primas. Hoy es común que se utili-cen en la fabricación de alimentos productos que, sibien están permitidos, resultan dañinos para la salud.Algunos son grasas saturadas, colorantes oconservantes. En nuestra fabricación solo utilizamosingredientes naturales y esto se debe valorar a la horade ofrecer un producto de alimentación por ejemplo aun niño, o en el caso de querer cuidar nuestra salud.

Además de lo anteriormente dicho, hay que consi-derar que no es ni parecido comer un artículo indus-trial a degustar un producto exquisito y de alguna ma-nera único ya que se elaboran uno a uno.¿De dónde provienen sus ingredientes?

very young.Where do your recipes come from?

I use traditional recipes from my country, Germany,especially from areas where they make exquisite cakesand all kinds of homemade deserts. It is part for thedaily routine to make deserts and various kinds ofbread.

I was lucky to learn my craft with one of the bestteachers and had the privilege to work with him forover fifteen years.Nowadays people frequently consume cakes anddeserts made industrially; do you think yourconfections can compete with them?

We control the quality of our ingredients with greatcare. It has become common for substances that canbe harmful to be used. Some of those are saturatedfats, colourings or preservatives. In our elaboration,we only use natural ingredients and this is somethingthat should matter when food is destined for childrenfor example, or for people who care about their health.Furthermore, industrial deserts taste very differentfrom an exquisite and unique product, which was madeone at a time.Where do you get your ingredients?

We use German brands that can be found in theCanary Islands. Although it is more expensive, it is theonly way to get the same result as we would in Germany,with the same quality and taste.Who tends to buy your confections?

It is mainly people who know about it already, whocare about their health and buy quality food. We tend

Hemos sido invitados a presenciar en directo unade extracción de miel de colmena por primera vez enFuerteventura y ha sido muy interesante, por variasrazones: Porque desconocíamos que se podía produ-cir miel en la isla y si se puede y muy rica ¡damos fe deello!, y porque ha sido toda una «aventurilla» embutir-se en el traje típico para estos menesteres, (por ciertomuy grande para la medida de esta reportera). Oír lasembestidas, contra la máscara, de las defensorasenfadadas de la colmena, pasar un calor tremendo yacercarse lo suficiente para ver y fotografiar el interiorbullicioso de una colmena en plena fase laboral es,cuando menos, una experiencia excitante. Y por últi-mo porque nunca me había picado una abeja, por loque desconocía que podía pasarme en ese caso, einevitablemente se piensa en todo lo que has oído,«alergias mortales, inflamaciones terribles y muchodolor.»

Una vez concluido todo el ritual que comenzó conahumar la colmena para que piensen que hay fuego yse queden quietas, se procedió a levantar la tapa y sesacaron diferentes planchas de paneles donde, adhe-ridos, trabajan sin cesar estos minúsculos insectos tanproductivos como inteligentes y una vez separada lamiel necesaria y cerrada de nuevo la colmena, llegó elmomento de la tertulia y como no, de las mil pregun-tas que llegaron a mi mente y que, con sabiduría ypaciencia, me fueron contestando los expertos.

Relatar todas, haría un larguísimo reportaje, así quevoy a resumir para los interesados las que considera-mos más interesantes o anecdóticas.Acabamos de presenciar la reacción de las abejascuando le quitamos su miel, que lógicamente noles hace ninguna gracia y, como profana mepregunto, ¿Les quitamos una miel que ellasnecesitan para subsistir o no les perjudica esteexpolio que se hace a la colmena?

No, ellas no necesitan toda la producción de mielque fabrican, pero voy a ampliarle la explicación.

El proceso de la vida de una abeja pasa por diferen-tes etapas laborales, comienza siendo pecoreadota ,que es la que sale a recoger-, luego pasa a seraireadora, que es la que ventila la colmena, despuéslimpiadora y el último ciclo de su vida es ser guardia-na. Si no le retiramos ese sobrante de alimento ella sevolverá guardiana y por lo tanto agresiva, para que nole quiten la comida, que posiblemente no necesitará.

Si al llegar la primavera no se ha comido toda la mielse producirá un proceso que llamamos la enjambrazón;al ver que no tienen espacio y que les sobra alimento,van a crear otra reina y marcharse a otro lugar. Por lotanto el apicultor debe dejar una reserva de miel parael invierno, pero no en exceso para evitar que se vayany estimularlas a seguir trabajando en esa colmena.Y en esa manipulación, ¿no hay riesgo de matar ala reina?

En caso de matar a la reina por un mal proceso, seve rápidamente, porque las obreras comienzan a pre-parar los huevos y estimularlos para ser reinas y a ve-ces el apicultor, si esta alerta, puede conseguir variasreinas separándolas al momento, para evitar que laprimera mate al resto y así nuevas colmenas.¿Es que tienen huevos de reserva para producirreinas a su antojo?


Siempre tienen huevos en reserva que estimulan condiferente alimentación cuando necesitan crear unanueva reina, bien porque esta haya muerto accidental-mente o porque sientan que se esta haciendo vieja.¿Y cuanto puede vivir una reina normalmente?

La abeja reina vive unos siete años, empieza a bajarsu producción de huevos en el cuarto año de vida. Enlos cuatro primeros años produce unos trescientos milhuevos por año, luego decae la producción. ¿Y se tarda mucho en criar una nueva reina?

El proceso de nacimiento es diferente en cada clasede abejas, la reina tarda en nacer unos diez y seis días,el zángano alrededor de veinte días y la abeja obreraalrededor de veinticinco días.Bruno, ¿cómo surgió la idea de crear colmenas enFuerteventura?

Es una tradición familiar, pues en Las Palmas tene-mos una importante explotación de miel y mi herma-no y yo nos hemos animado a comenzar aquí. Comoestamos rodeados de granjas biológicas, éstas hansido una importante fuente de flores para mis abejasy al mismo tiempo ellas han ayudado a polinizar cier-tas producciones agrícolas que antes tenían que pro-ducirse a mano.¿Y qué tal es de sabor esta miel?

Como contestación me dieron a probar de un tarri-to, este néctar de color ámbar, textura densa y saborsuave, pero no demasiado dulce. Menos empalagosoque la miel a la que estamos acostumbrados comer-cialmente. Después me ofrecieron un vino dulce queme recordó los caldos de Jumilla en Murcia muy uni-dos a mi niñez, y me explicaron que tal bebida no eravino de uva sino lo que llaman hidromiel, vino de mielfermentado.

Me cuentan que el proceso es el siguiente: Una vezextraída la miel, todos los restos que quedan, cera,algún insecto, etc, se hierven y posteriormente se haceun proceso de fermentación. Al final sale este vino de

hidromiel de unos 14º, que es muy usado y conocidoen los países fríos, como Rusia o Yugoslavia. En dife-rentes fases de esta fermentación se puede conse-guir un hidromiel seco, semidulce, achampanado eincluso se consigue un aguardiente de miel.

Bruno me explica que la miel es el producto máseconómico que se produce de la colmena, que esmucho más rentable convertir la miel en hidromiel oaguardiente, pero eso necesita una maquinaria e ins-talaciones sanitarias muy costosas, y también unaserie de permisos para poder fabricarlos.

Al volver hacia la redacción, me sentía más cerca dela naturaleza y menos ignorante de la apicultura y susemociones. ¡Gracias a Bruno, a su hermano y a suscompañeros de aventurilla!!!!!

«Honey is the cheapestproduct that we producefrom beehives»


We were invited to witness honey harvesting from abeehive for the first time in Fuerteventura, which was reallyinteresting for various reasons: because we were unawarethat honey could be produced on the island; it can bedone indeed and it is very nice, we tasted it! And becauseit was like a «mini-adventure»: having to get inside thetraditional outfit for this task (definitely too big for thesize of this reporter). To ear the onslaught against themask of the upset beehive defenders, to be subjected tothe tremendous heat and to be close enough to takepictures of the commotion inside a beehive while it isactive is, to say the least, an exciting experience.

And finally, because I had never been stung by a bee,meaning that I had no idea of what to expect, andinevitably we think of the worst we have ever been toldabout it, «deadly allergies, terrible inflammations andextreme pain.»

After the initial ritual of immersing the beehive insmoke so that bees think there is a fire and stay quiet,the lid is taken off and various boards are lifted wherethose tiny insects, as productive as they are intelligent,work continuously. Once the required honey washarvested and the beehive was closed again, it wastime to get together and ask the numerous questionsthat were springing to my mind, which were expertlyand patiently answered.

To relate them all would make the documentary fartoo long, I will therefore sum up for those interested,the most interesting ones.We have just witnessed the reaction of bees whentheir honey is removed, which logically should notplease them, and because of my ignorance I askmyself: are we removing honey that they need tosurvive or does it not actually affect the beehive?

No, they do not require all the honey they produce,let me explain why.

The life of a bee is split in various working phases,they start as foraging bees that go out and harvest-,then they become fanning bees, who ventilate thebeehive, later they become cleaners and finally for thelast phase of their life they are guards. If we don’tremove the overflow of production they will becomeguards which makes them aggressive, to make surethat no ones comes to steel their food, which they maynot need.

If, when spring comes, all the honey has not beeneaten, a process called swarming will occur; when beessee that they are getting short on space and that theyhave food left over, they create another queen and finda new place. This is why the beekeeper has to keep areserve of honey for the winter but not too much tomake sure bees won’t leave and stay motivated to workin this beehive.During this task, is there a risk to kill the queen?

If the queen is killed by accident, it is quicklynoticeable, because the workers start to prepare eggsand stimulate them to become queens. At times if heis vigilant enough, the beekeeper can get variousqueens by taking them away at that moment to ensurethat the first one doesn’t kill the others and in thatprocess other potential beehives.Do they keep eggs in reserve to be able to producequeens at any moment?

They always have eggs that are stimulated withdifferent food when they need to create a queen, eitherbecause it died accidentally or because they feel thecurrent queen is getting old.How long can a queen live normally?

The queen bee lives for about seven years; its eggproduction starts to decrease from its fourth year.During its first four years of life it will produce threehundred thousand eggs per year.How long does it take to create a new queen?

The birthing process is different in every class ofbees; the queen takes about sixteen days to be born,the drone about twenty days and the working bee abouttwenty five days.Bruno, what made you decide to create beehives inFuerteventura?

It is a family tradition, in La Palmas we have a largehoney production and my brother and I decided to starthere. As we are surrounded with biological farms, ithas been a great source for flowers for the bees thathave, in return, been helping with the pollination offarming plants that had to be done manually before.How does this honey taste?

To answer my question they gave me a little pot withthis amber nectar so I could taste it, its texture wasdense and the flavour was sweet but not too sweet. Itwas not as oversweet as the commercial honey we areused to. They later offered me some sweet wine whichreminded me of the Jumilla wine of Murcia and of myyouth and they explained that this wine was not madefrom grape but it is called mead (hidromiel in Spanish),a wine made with fermented honey.

They explained its production process: after honeyis extracted, everything that is left over, wax, someinsects, etc. is boiled and later fermented. The resultis this mead of about 14 degrees, which is widely usedand known in cold countries such as Russia or Yugos-lavia. During the different phases of fermentation, theycan produce dry, medium, or sparkling mead and theyeven produce honey brandy.

Bruno explained that honey is the cheapest productthat they produce from beehives, it is a lot moreprofitable to convert honey into mead or brandy, but itrequires a machine and sanitary installations that arequite costly as well as many licences allowing theproduction.

On my way back, I felt really close to Nature and lessignorant about beekeeping and the emotions it brings.Thanks to Bruno, his brother and their companions!

Wir wurden eingeladen mitzuerleben, wie zum erstenMal auf Fuerteventura Honig aus dem Bienenstockgenommen wurde, und es war aus verschiedenenGründen sehr interessant: Wir wussten nicht, dass manauf der Insel Honig herstellen kann. Wir bezeugen, dassman sogar sehr guten herstellen kann! Es war ein„Abenteuer», die dafür notwendige Kleidunganzuziehen, (die dieser Reporterin übrigens zu großist), zu hören, wie die wütenden Verteidiger desBienenstocks die Maske angriffen, stark zu schwitzenund sich anzunähern, um das unruhige Innere einesBienenstocks bei der Arbeit zu beobachten und zufotografieren. Es war eine aufregende Erfahrung.

Außerdem hatte mich noch nie eine Biene gestochen,und ich wusste nicht, was mir in diesem Fall passierenkonnte, und man denkt dann natürlich an alles, wasman diesbezüglich gehört hat: „tödliche Allergien,schreckliche Entzündungen und sehr starkerSchmerz.»

Als das Ritual fertig war, das damit begonnen hatte,den Bienenstock auszuräuchern, um die Bienendenken zu lassen, es würde brennen, und sie so ruhigzu halten, wurde die Abdeckung hochgehoben, und eswurden verschiedene Rahmen, in denen sich dieWaben befinden, herausgeholt, an denen dieseproduktiven und intelligenten kleinen Insekten haftenund unaufhörlich arbeiten. Als der nötige Honigherausgenommen worden und der Bienenstock wiedergeschlossen war, kam der Moment des Gesprächs undnatürlich der tausend Fragen, die mir einfielen und vonden Experten weise und geduldig beantwortet wurden.

Wenn ich von allen berichten würde, wäre dieseReportage unendlich lang, daher werde ich hier dieinteressantesten und anekdotenhaftestenwiedergeben.Wir erlebten gerade, wie die Bienen reagieren,wenn ihnen der Honig weggenommen wird, undnatürlich sind die letzteren darüber sehr verärgert.Als Laiin frage ich mich, ob wir ihnen den Honigwegnehmen, den sie zum Überleben brauchen undob diese Ausplünderung des Bienenstocks nichtschädlich für sie ist?

Nein, die Bienen brauchen nicht den ganzen Honig,den sie herstellen, aber ich werde das besser erklären.

Eine Biene erlebt im Laufe ihres Arbeits-Lebensverschiedene Abschnitte, am Anfang zieht sie aus, umeinzusammeln, danach ist sie dafür zuständig denBienenstock zu belüfteten, dann wird sie Putzbiene undim letzten Zyklus ihres Lebens Wachbiene. Wenn wirihr nicht die überflüssige Nahrung wegnehmen, wirdsie zur Wächterin und somit aggressiv, damit ihrniemand die Nahrung wegnimmt, die siewahrscheinlich gar nicht braucht.

Wenn im Frühling nicht der ganze Honig verzehrt ist,entsteht ein Prozess, der Schwärmen der Bienengenannt wird; wenn sie sehen dass sie keinen Platzund zuviel Nahrung haben, werden sie eine neueKönigin schaffen und an einen anderen Ort ziehen.Daher muss der Imker eine Honigreserve für denWinter lassen, aber nicht zuviel, damit die Bienen nichtabhauen, sondern angeregt werden, in diesemBienenstock zu bleiben.Besteht bei dieser Manipulation nicht das Risiko,die Königin umzubringen?

In dem Fall, dass die Königin aufgrund eines Fehlersumgebracht wird, merkt man dies schnell, weil dieArbeitsbienen anfangen, die Eier vorzubereiten unddiese anzuregen, Königinnen zu werden. Undmanchmal kann der Imker, wenn er Acht gibt, mehrere

Als Antwort bekam ich einen kleinen Topf von diesem

bernsteinfarbenen Nektar zum Probieren, derdickflüssig ist und einen feinen Geschmack hat, abernicht zu süß ist. Er ist nicht so süß wie der kommerzielleHonig, an den wir gewöhnt sind. Danach boten sie mireinen süßen Wein an, der mich an den Wein aus Jumi-lla in Murcia erinnerte, den ich gut aus meiner Kindheitkenne, und erklärten mir, dass dieses Getränk keinWein aus Trauben ist, sondern Wein aus fermentiertemHonig, der Honigwasser genannt wird.

Sie erzählten mir, dass dieser folgendermaßenhergestellt wird: Wenn der Honig entnommen ist, wirdalles, was übrig bleibt, Wachs, ein paar Insekten usw.,erhitzt, und danach beginnt man mit einemFermentierungsprozess. So entsteht dieser Wein, derHonigwasser genannt wird und ungefähr 14 Grad hat. Erist in kalten Ländern wie Russland und Jugoslawien sehrbekannt und wird viel getrunken. In den verschiedenenPhasen des Fermentationsprozesses erhält man eintrockenes, liebliches oder champagnerartigesHonigwasser und sogar Honigschnaps.

Bruno erklärt mir, dass Honig das preiswertesteBienen-Produkt ist, und dass es wesentlicheinträglicher ist, aus dem Honig Honigwasser oderSchnaps zu machen, aber man braucht sehr teuereMaschinen und sanitäre Einrichtungen sowie mehrereGenehmigungen, um diese herzustellen.

Als ich in die Redaktion zurückkehrte, fühlte ich michder Natur näher und wusste mehr über die Bienenzuchtund die dazugehörigen Gefühle. Ich danke Bruno,seinem Bruder und seinen Mitarbeitern für dieseskleine Abenteuer!!!!!

Auch die Vesper ist keinschlechter Zeitpunkt, um ihn zu verzehren, man könntesogar daran denken, diesen Termin der ersten Probebei verschiedenen Anlässen aus Ungeduld oder ausanderen Gründen vorzuverlegen, und man kann die-ses Gebäck auch bei einem spontanen Treffen inangenehmer Gesellschaft essen.

Obwohl er der Tradition gemäß am 6. Januar verzehrtwird, hat der der Ursprung des Dreikönigskuchen nichtsdamit zu tun, dass die Heiligen drei Könige nachBethlehem kamen, um das Christkind zu verehren,sondern scheint mit den römischen Saturnalien zu tun

Auch das Verteilen der Geschenke ist eine alteTradition, denn schon im III. Jahrhundert wurde imInnern des Kuchens eine trockene Bohne versteckt,und der Glückliche, der diese erwischte, wurde für einekurze, vorher festgesetzte Zeitspanne zum König derKönige ernannt.

In Spanien führte König Philipp V. diese Tradition ausFrankreich ein, die dort als „Galette des rois» bekanntwar und die Weihnachtszeit abschloss. Der Kuchen warmit kandierten Früchten bedeckt und in seinem Innernwurde eine kleine Überraschung versteckt, diemanchmal sehr luxuriös und wertvoll war: Dies ist dieGeschichte des Dreikönigskuchen, der Bohne und deskleinen Geschenkes, das wir darin finden, aber heuteist es Tradition, dass derjenige, der es bekommt, imnächsten Jahr den Dreikönigskuchen bezahlen muss.

¿Sabías que?...... en la Biblia se profetizaba, en el Salmo 72 del Anti-guo Testamento, que unos reyes provenientes deTharsis y de Saba (de Arabia del Sur) serían los prime-ros en reverenciar al enviado del Señor.

Existen numerosas variaciones del roscón de reyespero, de una u otra forma, todos se basan en la recetaoriginal y tradicional. Los ingredientes básicos y un pocode paciencia, conseguirán formar el roscón perfecto.
