On the eve of the 21st century, communism is greatly discredited, and capitalism

is stalling. The financial and economic crises in the recent past force us to rethink

our economic system and the market economy. new technologies, globalization,

social media and ecological awareness are the lifelines for some, the challenges

for others. The economic and social reality is interpreted in many different ways.

This year’s conference will analyze the state of the current situation and use this

as a starting point to examine the requirements for new, sustainable economic

systems and to discuss their implementation:

· What solutions, if any, does criticism of capitalism offer?

· What could an eco-social market economy look like?

· is there a single global economic system that is suitable for social consensus?

· how could the financial architecture be improved?

· What are the young generation’s requirements for future economic systems?

· how can people’s basic needs be met from a global perspective?

The conference provides a pluralistic platform to discuss new ideas through me-

aningful dialogue between speakers and participants.

An der Schwelle des 21. Jahrhunderts ist der Kommunismus zutiefst diskreditiert und

der Kapitalismus ins Stocken geraten. die finanz- und Wirtschaftskrisen der jüngsten

Zeit zwingen dazu, unser Wirtschaftssystem und die marktwirtschaft zu überdenken.

neue Technologien, globalisierung, soziale medien und ökologisches bewusstsein

sind dem einen die rettungsanker, dem anderen die herausforderungen. die öko-

nomische und gesellschaftliche realität wird auf unterschiedlichste Weise gedeutet.

die diesjährige Konferenz widmet sich einer Zustandsanalyse der heutigen lage. Sie

versucht daraus die Anforderungen an neue, zukunftsfähige Wirtschaftssysteme her-

zuleiten und ihre umsetzung zu diskutieren:

· Welche lösungen, falls überhaupt, bietet die Kapitalismuskritik?

· Wie könnte eine öko-soziale marktwirtschaft der Zukunft aussehen?

· gibt es ein einziges globales, gesellschaftlich konsensfähiges Wirtschaftssystem?

· Wie könnte die finanzarchitektur verbessert werden?

· Welche Anforderungen stellt die junge generation an zukünftige

Wirtschaftssysteme?

· Wie lassen sich die grundbedürfnisse der menschen in globaler Perspektive

erfüllen?

durch den fruchtbaren dialog zwischen referenten und Teilnehmenden bietet die

group of young Scientists The Summer School that precedes the annual conference of Academia engelberg

joins students from different countries to discuss this year’s conference topic

“future economic Systems”. during the Summer School, participants will be pre-

pared to actively and creatively participate in the annual conference by providing

economic arguments. The Summer School will start by introducing students to

economic reasoning and it will train them to think in terms of economic incentives

and equilibria. The training provided will allow participants to critically evaluate

contributions regarding economic systems and to actively contribute to develo-

ping new ideas for a better functioning of present systems. The young scientists

will shape one morning of the annual conference, namely Thursday morning, 15

October 2015. it is expected that they add the perspective of the generation Y to

the conference and that they elaborate on the topic of “future economic Sys-

tems” adding the different viewpoints of their countries.
