ABOUT THE CITY AND AIRPORT CONNECTIVITY

NAME OF THE AIRPORT (STATE) : GHAZIPUR, DIST. GAZIPUR, UTTAR PRADESH (A) ABOUT THE CITY :

(I) INTRODUCTION : Shravasti District is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh state of India and Bhinga town is district headquarter. Shravasti is a newly created district carved out from district Bahraich. Shravasti shares its border with district Balrampur, Gonda and Bahraich, Bhinga, the District Headquqrter of Shravasti, is approximately 175 Km. away from the state capital, Lucknow. Shravasti, the northeastern district of Uttar Pradesh, is located near River Rapti. It is closely associated with the life of Lord Buddha. It is being said that the mythological king Sravast founded this town. Shravasti was the capital of Kosala Kingdom during 6th century BC to 6th century AD.

Ghazipur Airport is situated in Ghazipur city in Uttar Pradesh, in India. The Airport is on the Ghazipur-Mau Road.

No scheduled commercial air service at this time. The Airport is currently used for VIP movement and emergency usage.

(II) ABOUT THE DISTRICT POPULATION, ECONOMY, INDUSTRY & TOURISM POTENTIAL :

POPULATION : According to the 2011 census Ghazipur district has a population of 3,622,727 ECONOMY : Profile of Gazipur district is predominantly rural in character with high level of poverty. Small and marginal farmers dominate the scenario of land holding. The district has potential for development of dairy, dairy cum banana cultivation, dairy cum fisheries projects, dairy products, horticulture including medicinal and aromatic crops, fisheries, vermin-compost, agro based and food processing industries etc. Medicinal and aromatic plants are the emerging sectors in the state with demand coming from traditional health systems like ayush, neutraceuticals, perfumes industry and cosmetic industry. State medicinal plant board had identified crops like satavar, kalmegh, stevia for cultivation in the district. At present these are being cultivated by a few progressive farmers but its potential for commercial purpose yet to be realized INDUSTRY : Major Exportable Item: The Govt. Opium & Alklied Industries, Ghazipur is exporting the items i.e. Opium Powder I.P. and Opium Cake I.P. and in future their export may likely to be increased. 3.4.3 Growth Trend All the units as listed above have shown negative growth in recent past except for Lords Distillery which has been stagnant. 3.4.4 Vendorisation / Ancillarisation of the Industry Present status of Vendorisation or Ancillarisation of MSEs Sectors by the above mentioned 4 Nos. of Large Scale Industries/ Public Sector Undertakings is very poor. However potential does exist for supply of consumable stores and services for repair and maintenance.

The District has a sound agricultural base and reasonably good infrastructure but industrial potential is low. TOURISM POTENTIAL : In Ghazipur District, there are several places worth exploring. It is one of the popular tourist destinations of Uttar Pradesh. Aunrihar, Bhitari, Bahadurganj, Ghazipur, Dildarnagar, Gauspur and Zamania are some of the noteworthy places of interest in this district. These places have historical as well as religious importance.
