LI NI UNgn ng lp trnh java ra i v c cc nh nghin cu ca Cng ty Sun Microsystem gii thiu vo nm 1995. Sau khi ra i khng lu, ngn ng lp trnh ny c s dng rng ri v ph bin i vi cc lp trnh vin chuyn nghip cng nh cc nh pht trin phn mm.
