A few pictures from our afternoon's BBQ and football match. I don't think I have ever had a BBQ, in mid-summer, in worse weather!! Thank you to Marcel and Bernie for sticking to it - I reckon the support provided by the likes of Claire, Asa and Normunds was just what the doctor ordered!! Let's hope that England will progress through the knockout stages - maybe another BBQ in decent weather can be on the cards?! Regards, Herman Engelbrecht

KROMHOUT & MOSPLAAS VROUE WORD ENTREPENEURS

We recently appointed a new Production Manager for Pome Fruit. We want to take this opportunity and welcome Joubert
Stemmet and his family to the Karsten Group. Joubert was an employee of the Du Toit Group for about eleven years. We
trust that we will have a long working relationship with Joubert and believe that he will make an excellent contribution
towards the Company. Here he introduced himself to the employees and posed for a quick snapshot.
NEW ADDITION TO THE POMERS
A VISIT FROM
LALLALAND Lollos visited Ceres on 21 June 2016
and all of our children attend the
show. They were very exited and
surely enjoy themselves. I want to
thank the Creche Personnel for all the
necessary arrangements and the time
they put in to make this day a very
exciting day for our children.
BELLA VISTA PRIMARY SCHOOL
Bella Vista Primary School’s U12 Netball team was recently
announced as the best team in the Witzenberg area and
was invited to take part in a Competition hosted in Stellen-
bosch. For them it was a first and therefore wanted to
make a good impression; not just as participants, but also in
the appropriate dress code. They approached Karsten for a
sponsorship and here they are with their coaches and Emila
De Koker and Moreen Fortuin on behalf of the Company.
After a very exciting and challenging harvesting season behind us, our
employees going on a well deservingly break from 27 June up until 15 July.
We want to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone for carried

On Youth day Karsten Albert Heijn invite learners
from three schools to participate in our reading festi-
val.
Anzil Kulsen even inspires the teachers to write rap
songs and the boys are full of beat, but Soverby’s
girls walk away with the first prize for their creative
performance! As usual Anzil Action = surprises, jokes,
stories and books. She spreads hope for the future.

Recreational Ac-tivities
With all the technology freely availa-
ble kids need to move more and ex-
ercise their muscles through recrea-
tional activities. Roepersfontein kids
just love the thrill of adventure on the
new jungle gym at the aftercare
centre. When they decide on a theme, for a moment everybody are sheep
making “Mê!” sounds all over the bridges, swings, tyres and slides. The jungle
gym challenge and invite them to engage in outdoor activities and develop
their imagination. What a great way to have fun between all the learning
activities. At the Kromhout aftercare centre Judy Brandt and Leonie Kruger
use J-boards and balls to reach their recreational goal. Karsten Albert Heijn
aims to keep our kids entertained and happy.

About Life...
Unity
Leaders of Blouputs received Life Skill training regardering setting
an example and being part of a successful team. Matthews
Mokwae recapped the training as follow: “I learned to think about
life...” Abel Lekula declared that the training triggered his
memories about important values and encouraged him to carry
on. Virgnia Lobelo showed her gratitude towards Piet Karsten for
training possibilities and development. Karsten Albert Heijn
appreciate positive contributions of team members not just as
voices, but an anthem of encouragement from the people to the
people.

“Every child a reader” To get learners engaged in reading Karsten Albert Heijn donated books to
the following schools: Pella, Soverby, Blaauwsekop as well as aftercare
centres at Roepersfontein and Kromhout. Richard Allington and Rachael
Gabriel found through research that every child should have the oppor-
tunity to:
Have a personal choice of what to read.
Read a text that they can understand and read with accuracy, joy
and confidence.
Write something personally meaningful (not just fill-in-the-blank)
about what they read.
Talk with peers about reading (and think about what they read).
Listen to a fluent adult read aloud.
Karsten Albert Heijn declares war against illiteracy! We want every child to
be a reader!

Family engagement is the foundation of a healthy work force, community and country. It promotes the
safety, wellbeing and education of our children. Karsten Albert Heijn partners with families on behalf of
our children’s benefit. We honour and respect the knowledge that families bring to educational improve-
ment at Roepersfontein and Kromhout aftercare centres. Early literacy is critical for learning success and parents can play a key role in this regard. Karina van Zyl
(teacher) increases the capacity of parents to promote reading. With her enthusiastic and practical advice
she designs family engagement and positive educational outcomes.
Michelle and Francois le Roux improve parenting skills to plan Friday festivals at home. Through the use of
bread, oil, vinegar, salt and honey family members learn how to share positive and negative experiences,
moments where they felt the presence of the Holy Spirit and how God use people to be the salt of the
earth. They also explain how to bless our children.
