FOR THOSE BEING ATTACKED READ THIS IT WILL HELP!!

When you notice you have an incoming attack it is important that you dont panic. By following a few simple simple steps you can easily work out what kind of attack you have incoming, inform the alliance and act accordingly.

Step 1 Work out what type of attack is being sent

When youre under attack, it is crucial to know if the attack is a conquest attack or just a normal attack. You can always recognize an attack with a colony ship by its speed.

If you check the Grepolis Units Portal, you can see the speed of all units. Here, you can see that the colony ship is the slowest naval unit, and since fire ships cannot attack, no other naval unit is less than twice as quick. When you are attacked, there are three speeds that you normally need to consider:

- Attack with colony ship: The slowest of all attacks

Attack containing normal transport ships: 2,6 times as fast as an attack with colony ship

Attack containing light ship (and no normal transports): 4,3 as fast as attack with colony ship

To get the time it would take for a colony ship to attack a specific city, you simply select attack on the city that is attacking you and put 1 in for colony ship, and the time will show:

If the travel time matches that of the attack, then there is a colony ship on the way. If the times do not match, delete the 1 under the colony ship and check the times for the other boats.

Even if you were not online when the attack was launched, you should still check the travel times. In the example shown above, the CS travel time is ~7:54:51. If you had been offline for 4 hours, and the attack will arrive in 2 hours, then you would know that it could not be a conquest attempt.

*please note that sometimes the times will not be an exact match as Hades Helmet, Lighthouse and Cartopgraphy will make the journey time 10-15% shorter.

Step 2 Inform the alliance.

Once you have worked out what the attack type is, you should post all the details in the alliance forum.

When posing, always include the seconds of the arrival time(s). In many cases that will be the difference between saving you city or losing it to the enemy. To get the exact arrival time, go to your troop movements and click on the incoming attack. That will bring up a pop up box with the information. Also say what defenses you have and if the attack has already came and more are coming post the battle report. One thing you should always do is tell us who it is attacking you and we may be able to send a counter attack. This will most likely make the attacks stop and your alliance members will get some loot!

Step 3 Act accordingly

None CS attack

This is probably someone scouting you out, hunting for res or just looking for BP so they can get another city. (You can turn Battle Points into more cities).

So, you have 2 options. You can fight or dodge.

To fight: It is suggested that you enlist your militia (click on Farm, then it says activate militia). You should then send away your offensive units (see Unit Guide) because they will not help defend your city, will get die trying.

To dodge: (thus robbing your opponent of battle points and wasting his time by having his troops have to sail across the world for nothing) you do the following.

Activate your militia.

Spend or hide you res otherwise they can be looted. Your warehouse will protect a limited amount of your resources so you probably want to create a trade on the market (it can be lopsided so no-one will take your offer) and/or spend your resources to build something or expand you farming villagers.

Then either send your troops to support a friendly person on the island and recall them after the attack or, wait until about 1 min before the attack hits, then support or attack someone else on your island. After the attack hits, click on their movement and cancel it and your units will return home safely. Remember you can only cancel within the first 10 mins.

Personally I would suggest you dodge most attacks however this is personal choice. Just remember, if you lose all your troops, if the send a CS soon after, you will not be able to defend your city.

CS attack

Put a spell on he incoming attack. It is advised that you either do this as soon as the attack is launched, in order to prevent the attacker from spelling the attack. Or just before the CS will arrive, say 30-15min before (this time will depend on what snipes and troops movements you will be doing). By playing dead, your attacker may assume you are offline and will not send out extra clearing attacks and support.

To cast a spell on the attack, go to your troop movements and click on the incoming attack. In the top right there is a tab called spells. Click on that.

Click on the spell you want. In general, more then one divine power may be cast on an attack. However if any of the following has already been cast then you will not be able to cast another:

Helmet of Invisibility

Return from the Underworld

Heroic Power

Desire

Favorable Wind

So if you want to use wisdom, Zues rage, sea storm and desire, you must cast desire last.

Keep updating your forum post to show additional clearing attacks and support. The CS is usually the first attack launched and more attacks maybe sent nearer the arrival time. We will need to know what time window is between the last clearing and CS. If we send support before the clearing attacks it may not survive to fight the CS.

Also remember to check the travel times for all incoming attacks. They may send two+ CS to the same city during the same attack. This technique is called sandwiching and although it is rare, you should always look out for it.

Step 4 Intel

After the attack you can post the battle reports. They contain valuable information. They will help to identify nuke cities and players online times.
