Storm cleanup ending Finally, after nearly two months of work and about $160,000 in cost, the cleanup from the Halloween snowstorm is near- ly complete. The Township of Washington will now move on and prepare for the removal of snow and ice instead of leaves and branches. Garden State Parkway Exit 168 Further discussion about the safety of the reconstructed Exit 168 on the Garden State Parkway is due to take place between town- ship officials and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. Members of the council have contended that the exit remains extremely dangerous, warranting the addition of a traffic light. Officials from Bergen Coun- ty have not been in favor of this addition, but are willing to discuss the matter. Mayor Janet Sobkow- icz will be meeting with the Authority in the next week. Working to improve traffic flow along the GSP Further to the issue of conges- tion in the Pascack Valley, a com- mittee was formed consisting of Mayor Sobkowicz, Councilman Joe DUrso and currently three area residents. Calling themselves the GSP 168/171 Action Commit- tee, the group is focused on build- ing public awareness and publiciz- ing ways to improve traffic flow along the Garden State Parkway corridor and is open to residents of all area towns. Sobkowicz noted that the first order of business is to gather engineering and accident information on Exit 168 since the reconstruction. Area residents interested in becoming involved in this commit- tee should watch the township web page or email their contact infor- mation to mayor@twpofwashing- ton.us Cell tower update Proceedings for the construc- tion of the cell tower on the North side of the municipal complex are continuing, appearances to the con- trary aside. The project remains in what Attorney Ken Poller called “phase two,” during which construc- tor Verizon Wireless is conducting soil testing and engineering.
