What is Happening with RAP?
RAP has:
Exceeded its target of 1,000 trained. Engaged 53 Deaf and 70 Special Needs youth on Human Rights and Advocacy.
Engaged attorney at law Harold B. Malcolm as Human Rights Consultant to the project.
Mr. Malcolm, who has studied and worked in Human Rights training and policy will be a valuable
support to the project’s further implementation. In particular, Mr Malcolm will:
o Engage with CSO’s; Review the earlier completed research and needs assessment to make a
legislative assessment of barriers to more active participation by civil society in human rights
advocacy: Provide expert advice to the other project tasks and lead the CSO training programme.
Continued to engage Jamaica on www.rapjamaica.org, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
What is RAP Doing Now?
Continuing to promote a culture of Human Rights and Advocacy across Jamaica – RAP is:
Selecting 100 graduates of the Youth Human Rights trainings for a 4-day residential training in
Advocacy, December 4-7, 2014 at the Madge Saunders Conference Center, St Mary. In this second
phase 100 participants, ages 18-25 will receive in-depth training in human rights advocacy and
lessons on proposal writings, budgeting and building their coalitions to support their initiatives.
Promoting an online Human Rights Video Contest
on Facebook. The public is invited to create and post
1-3-minute videos to the Rights Awareness Fan Page
under the theme Our World: Our Rights: I Am
Promoting Human Rights. Entries close November
30: Voting ends December 9. The winning video
will be announced on Human Rights Day -

What is in the Pipeline for 2015? Capacity Building for CSO’s – training for100 CSO’s and civil society leaders.
Engaging a wider public with TV & Radio productions and a Public Forum in Montego Bay.
Providing a Grant Scheme for youth community-based Human Rights projects.
