Dear Parishioners,
A thousand thanks to the Our Lady of Fatima Rosary Group
for a $12,000 check presented to the parish for the capital campaign. Thank you for
the hard work and support!! Thanks for the encouragement of our dreams!! We
appreciate you!!
Did you know? We priests at Holy Family visit many convalescent and
assisted living and retirement homes in Glendale each month, and we celebrate
Mass with the residents. Some parishioners assist us in serving our beloved people
in these homes. These homes are wonderful. The care is excellent. Skilled nurses
assist those in need 24/7. You should know that Holy Family has been serving
these homes for decades. We have many of our parishioners who also bring
communion and visit the sick as well. It is a blessing to the church and to the
residents. Yes, it is possible to live in a residence nearby and receive spiritual
sustenance without ever leaving home. Please be aware that this is a service that
the church provides.
I have a few items of notice regarding vocations in our archdiocese. Our
college-age house of formation underwent a name change. It used to be called Juan
Diego House. It is now called Queen of Angels Center for Priestly Formation. A new
facility on the campus of Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance is being
renovated for this purpose. This residence is for young men who feel that they may
be called to be a priest; however, they do not yet have their undergraduate college
degree.
The academic year began with a total of 95 seminarians for our
archdiocese:
65 men in Theology and Pre-Theology at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo
29 men in Philosophy at Queen of Angels Center for Priestly Formation in
Gardena
1 man at Seminario Hispano de Santa Maria de Guadalupe in Mexico City
Seven new priests were ordained in June 2017 and nine transitional
deacons were ordained this past August. These are the men who, God willing, will
be ordained priests of Jesus Christ on June 2, 2018 at the cathedral by Archbishop
José Gomez. Our own seminarian Deacon Danny Guinto is one of the nine. Please
continue to be praying for, inviting, encouraging and supporting vocations!!
It is hard to believe but Thanksgiving is coming up next week! This is an
incredible Mass at 9 AM. It’s always packed and full of lots of love and appreciation.
Please plan to bring with you non-perishable food items for donation to the poor and
less fortunate. Please leave these items in the pews with you until after communion.
Invite your family members, friends and neighbors as we rejoice in Thanksgiving for
all of our blessings.
Remember: on Sunday, December 3rd, the First Sunday of Advent, we
begin a new liturgical year in the life of the church. It is a year of grace, and we will
switch to the Sunday readings Cycle B and Daily Mass Cycle II.
With gratitude to all of you -
Fr. Jim Bevacqua, Pastor

More Parish News
Dear Fr. Jim,
I would like to thank you must sincerely for hosting our Diocese in you your Parish for the Missionary Co-
operative Plan of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
I want to thank you personally for your wonderful hospitality, making me feel so much at home. I want to
thank your generous parishioners for their prayers and financial support; this makes a big difference to us in the
Amazon Region of Brazil. It was wonderful to have the opportunity of staying in your Rectory and to experience the
interaction of your staff and Parishioners. I learned a lot from this experience and I hope to share it with the priests
and people in my Diocese of Miracema do Tocantins. I’m just back at base and the temperatures are over 100 F. So
far, the rains for this year have not arrived!
Assuring you of our prayers for your good – self and your parishioners. I write this letter to you and your
parish on the feast of our Lady of Aparecida, Patroness of Brazil. I pray that through her intercession, on this 300
anniverary, she will bless the Clergy and parishioners of Holy Family Parish. Many thanks once more. I can never
repay you for all you and your parishioners have done for me and my Diocese. This is much appreciated.
Yours fraternally,
Dom Philip Dickmans
Bishop of the Diocese of Miracema do Tocantins-TO

Online Grooming
Learning all we can about how
predators groom children
through online contact is key to
keeping them safe at all times. Language is a predator’s
tool for grooming online. One tactic that online predators
use to groom a potential victim is by complimenting and
reinforcing their self-image as a way of normalizing their
interactions. Compliments are used to build trust,
desensitize, and mentally or emotionally isolate the
potential victim from others. It is important to remember
that monitoring the online communication of young
people on chats, apps, gaming websites, etc. is key in
preventing abuse. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article

COMPARTIENDO NUESTROS DONES
