social isolation and social exclusion are important riskfactors affecting the health and well-being of older people, in particular in the absence of family networks or insufficient support for families. Older women are more at risk of social isolation than older men. Most interventions combine public action with volonteering, activating the own potential of older people and their families or communities. Elder maltreatment physical, sexual, mental or financial abuse/neglect is a significant cause of injuries, illness and despair. Maltreatment is in the home by familiy members, caregivers, in institutions by professional staff or visitors. Maltreatment is a part of human rights.
