Rapid opiate detox , heroin detox with anesthesia

OPIATES (HEROIN) DETOXIFICATIONThere are many opiate dependency treatment programs available nowadays.

Modern conception of treatment of any kind of chemical addiction  consists of two phases: detoxification (treatment of physical dependence) and counseling program ( treatment of mental dependence).

3. traditional medically assisted detox

Because it is done in rehabs or clinics under medical  observation it is safe. With use of painkillers and sedatives it is a relatively comfortable treatment.  Usually it takes no less than 10 days (usually 14 days) to complete cleansing.  Such long duration  of treatment with still presented, though reduced, withdrawal symptoms makes it for many patients wearisome.

4. anesthesia assisted detox   (Rapid or Ultra Rapid Opiate Detox)

Can be done only within in-hospital conditions under qualified medical supervision.  It doesn’t carry the risks higher than any other anesthesia assisted procedure.  Nowadays it is approved standard  medical procedure. It is safe and  fast.  It takes no longer than 3-5 days of hospitalization. Because cleansing process is undergoing under total anesthesia it is  absolutely painless. Though the remains of withdrawal  may still  present immediately after detox,  they are easily manageable with the use  the supporting  therapy.  In other words, the anesthesia assisted detoxification is safe, painless and time-saving procedure.

 

What is the difference between Rapid and Ultra Rapid Opiate Detoxification (UROD)?

The difference is in duration of a cleansing process. UROD is usually a single procedure. Mostly it suits moderately addicted patients for whom the only procedure  is enough to cleanse the opioid receptors. It lasts from 6 to 8 hours. The patient doesn’t experience any symptoms of withdrawal after wake up. One more  day after detox  is needed  to regain physical strength  and clear up the consciousness after anesthesia. Rapid Opiate Detoxification is supposed to have  2 or even 3 detox procedures. It takes 4-6 days. Usually it suits heavily addicted patients when the single detox  procedure is not enough to complete the cleansing.Detoxification from any drug is not a pleasant experience.  To pass opiate  withdrawal without medical intervention can be very painful.  In case of a hard core addiction the unassisted  detoxification  may result in damage of  the central nervous system,  cause  seizures,  and in some cases even lead to cardiopulmonary failure and other life threatening situations.

 

NALTREXONE THERAPYNaltrexone therapy in treatment of all kind of addiction  ( especially in case of alcoholism and opioid dependence ) is getting more and more popular nowadays.

Naltrexone is a pure opioid antagonist which has better binding affinity to the opiate receptors than opiates. Due to that unique property  Naltrexone reliably blocks the effects of opioids.  Besides  Naltrexone  is neither addictive nor pleasurable substance. It effectively bans the physical dependence on Morphine, Heroin, Methadone and other opiates. Clinical research indicates that 50 mg of Naltrexone  effectively neutralizes  the pharmacological effects of 500 mg of intravenously administered Heroin for 24 hours.

Because naltrexone does not cause physical dependence, there is no withdrawal syndrome in  the case of abrupt discontinuation. Naltrexone doesn't have sedative effect. So it hasn't  restrictions in driving and  other activities requiring concentration.

It is important to understand that Naltrexone doesn't erase the craving for drugs. 

Sustainable lack of willingness to take narcotics, perceived  rejection of them can be achieved only by complex and prolonged  treatment.  Treatment  of  psychological dependence, coupled with the reliable pharmacological blockade and  rehabilitation programs  provides the most  positive and stable prognosis.

COUNSELINGAfter completion of detoxification, the tough work of psyche-transformation begins. Different  counseling and behavior modification strategies and techniques are supposed to enable the recovering patient to sustain a drug-free lifestyle long after he's left the  rehab center. Through the counseling sessions the patient discovers the emotional and environmental factors that trigger his cravings for drugs and learns to how avoid  them.  Realizing the fact that the treatment for opiate addiction is far from over even when the rehabilitated opiate addict returns to society,  we connect him to the  support groups and family outreach programs to assist him and his family to rebuild their lives.
