To receive the Sacraments at Holy Redeemer Parish

You or your family need to be a registered member of the Parish for at least six months prior the date of the sacra-ment to be received. The registration and regular attend-ance to the mass will be taken from the collection enve-lopes placed in the basket at the offertory. Starting the 2018-2019 catechetical year the children and their family need to be registered in the parish to have their children in the Holy Redeemer Catechetical program. If coming from outside the parish to receive the sacraments will need a letter of permission from the par-ish of provenience

JOHN THE BAPTIST Since June 24 falls on a Sunday this year, the Church has the opportunity for a more intense celebra-tion of the birth of John the Baptist, who is often de-scribed as the last of the Old Testament prophets and the bridge between Judaism and Christianity. More commonly, John is known as the “precursor” of our Lord Jesus Christ. All the Gospels report John’s basic message: Repent, the kingdom is near at hand. One greater than I is coming. Though he was a wandering preacher who dressed in camel skins and ate grasshoppers, John’s legacy is one of true royalty. His origins are similar to those foretold by God through the prophet Isaiah: “You are my servant, he said to me, Israel through whom I show my glory” (Isaiah 49:3). John’s humility—“I am not he”—was surpassed only by that of his Lord Jesus, the humble servant who followed.

Love & Responsibility New Jersey (L+R NJ) is a life changing series for young adults based on St. John Paul II's teachings on human love. JUAN EL BAUTISTA

Ya que el 24 de junio de este año cae en domingo, la Iglesia tiene la oportunidad para una celebración más vibrante del nacimiento de Juan el Bautista, a quien se le describe como el último de los profetas del Antiguo Testamento y también como el puente entre el judaísmo y el cristianismo. Comúnmente a Juan se le conoce co-mo el “precursor” de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Todos los evangelios narran el mensaje básico de Juan: Arre-piéntanse, el Reino de Dios está cerca. Uno más grande que yo está cerca. Aunque él era un predicador itinerante, vestido con piel de camello, que comía saltamontes; el legado de Juan es uno de verdadera realeza. Sus orígenes son pa-recidos a aquellos anunciados por Dios por medio del profeta Isaías “Tú eres mi siervo, Israel; en ti manifes-taré mi gloria”. La humildad de Juan, “Yo no soy él”, fue superada por la de su Señor Jesús, el siervo humilde a quien siguió

EL PAPA SOBRE EL ABORTO

Dos días después de que la Cámara de los Diputados de Argentina aprobase el proyecto que legalizará el aborto en el país, el Papa Francisco criticó esta “moda”, a la que comparó con lo que hacían los nazis. Durante una audiencia en el Vaticano a los miembros de una asociación de familias, el Pontífice afirmó que “el siglo pasado todo el mundo estaba escandalizado por lo que hacían los nazis para cuidar la pureza de la raza", sin embargo, "hoy hacemos lo mismo, pero con guantes blancos”. El Papa, improvisando en su discurso, señaló que el aborto “está de moda, es habitual”. “Cuando en el embarazo se ve que quizás el niño no está bien o viene con cualquier cosa: la primera oferta es '¿lo tiramos?'. El homicidio de los chicos. Para resolver una vida tranquila, se tira un inocente”, manifestó. Para que se entendiera mejor, el Papa acudió a un ejemplo: “cuando de chico la maestra nos enseñaba lo que hacían los espartanos cuando nacía un niño con malformaciones: lo llevaban al monte y lo tiraban para abajo para cuidar la pureza de la raza. Hoy hacemos lo mismo. Una atrocidad”. “¿Por qué no se ven enanos por la calle? Porque el protocolo de muchos médicos dice: viene mal, fuera”. En respuesta, Francisco planteó “que los hijos se reciban como vienen, como Dios los manda, como Dios permite”. Durante su intervención, Francisco hico una nueva defensa de la familia y repitió que un matrimonio está formado por un hombre y una mujer, además de animar a que tengan hijos puesto que son un bien para toda la sociedad. “Hoy duele decirlo. Se habla de familias diversificadas, de distintos tipos de familia. Sí, es verdad que la palabra familia es análoga: hay familias de estrellas, de árboles, de los animales. Pero la familia, imagen de Dios, hombre y mujer, es una sola”. El Papa dijo además que “el nacimiento de hijos constituye la más grande inversión para un país y es la primera condición de su prosperidad futura”. Con 129 votos contra 125 y una abstención, la Cámara de Diputados de Argentina aprobó el jueves 14 de junio el proyecto del aborto, el que ahora pasará a discutirse en el Senado. La iniciativa recientemente aprobada permite el aborto libre hasta la semana 14 de gestación; y hasta los nueve meses de embarazo bajo las causales de violación, riesgo de vida y salud de la madre e inviabilidad fetal.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

Hoy recordamos a san Juan Bautista, primo de Je-sucristo y precursor del Mesías. Juan se hizo famoso predicando la penitencia y bautizando con agua, insis-tiendo que vendría uno que bautizaría al mundo con fuego y el Espíritu Santo. Hoy es uno de los santos mas festejados en el mundo, especialmente en zonas donde su fiesta coincidía con la llegada del verano. Para celebrar a este santo pariente de Jesús la gente en Alicante, España, hace fogatas durante la noche de su vigilia y baila en torno a ellas. En América el pueblo Boliviano también recibe al santo con hogueras, para quemar la tierra en busca de fertilidad y purificación. Los Bolivianos también festejan echándose agua los unos a los otros. San Juan ha sido honrado en el hemisferio Ameri-cano desde 1509 cuando Juan Ponce de León nombró la Isla de Puerto Rico en su honor. También allí hacen el juego del agua en la fiesta de san Juan ya que los fieles se echan de espaldas al océano tres veces en busca de purificación y celebración.
