Teacher experience/case study
What type of support you have
received from the host school is the
most helpful to you?
Useful support from my host school
• my line manager is always very patient
with helping us solve any problem both
about work and life
• Daily feedback on my teaching and
being as a TA
• In the beginning, the local teacher's
guidance about the school and local
area are very important for me.
Useful support from my host school
• I wanted to open a cultural club, and the
local teacher supported me so much
• Observe lessons of other teachers
• CC manger offers tips when I encounter
problems in primary school teaching
• Being part of school briefing
Useful support from my host school
• Useful training from the school
• Regular meeting about work and life
• Clear job description and arrangement
of the year
• Local teachers’ friendliness and lovely
smiles
My CC manager explained to me at the very first
day of my arrival that the school is located in a
disadvantaged area and I should not feel
disappointed at myself when the students are
not behaving in my class because they do this in
very class, and I can improve myself at dealing
with students' behavior problems by learning
from other teachers.

Hanban teacher programmeAs a Hanban volunteer teacher, you should prepare
to be independent, positive and flexible. To be
independent, you can sort out many things from
life and work. To be positive, you can overcome
loneliness and the long and cold winter in UK. To be
flexible, you can make your lesson fun and feel
easy to the new culture and environment. In a word,
A Hanban volunteer teacher programme will make
you a wonderful person.
(From a Hanban volunteer teacher)
Hanban teacher programmeI have learnt so much by working in the UK:
becoming braver, more independent, more
confident, and get to know more about myself and
others. Working in other countries could be difficult
at the beginning but through a quite long time, it
could be a big fortune in our lives. It broaden our
eyes and mind, I really appreciate it.

Hanban teacher programmeThis was the fourth year that Beths participated in
the Hanban teacher programme and we cannot
thank the UCL IOE Confucius Institute enough for
coordinating this excellent programme. Our
students have benefited immeasurably from having
our Hanban teacher, Lina Li, to help with their
Chinese learning and cultural knowledge.
(from an IOE Confucius Classroom)
Hanban teacher programmeExcellent! Our two Hanban teachers have taught in
local primary schools as well as in our school,
teaching Mandarin and Chinese culture. They are a
huge asset to our school and to the Hanban
programme.
