WHY ‘CREATIVE’ MATTERS?

CREATIVITY…
Imaginative activity fashioned so as to produce
outcomes that are both original and of value.
(NACCE, 1999)
Creativity is a mental and social process
involving the discovery of new ideas or concepts,
or new associations of the creative mind between
existing ideas or concepts.
"...creativity by individuals and teams is a
starting point for innovation; the first is a
necessary but not sufficient condition for the
second." (Amabile, T. M., R. Conti, H. Coon, et al., 1996).
Fortune(December 2007)
‘In today’s economy,
a big idea is worth
more than a big market share.’
Creative capitalism is a
system where incentives for
both profit and recognition
motivate both self-interest
and caring for others.
We have to find a
way to make the
aspects of capitalism
that serve wealthier
people serve poorer
people as well.
Bill Gates, A new approach to Capitalism.
ปี 2015 The innovation economy

From „routine‟ to „creative‟ job
Today's challenge is the move from jobs
oriented to routine to jobs that hinge on
creativity. Routine-oriented workers carry
out standardized tasks, often repetitively
and in a preset sequence…
Creativity-oriented occupations, on the
other hand, require workers to apply their
knowledge to changing situations, make
responsive decisions and communicate.

Super-Creative Core Creative Professionals This group is deemed to contain a
wide range of occupations (e.g. science, engineering, education, computer programming, research) with arts, design, and media workers making a small subset. Those belonging to this group are considered to “fully engage in the creative process”
The Super-Creative Core is considered innovative, creating commercial products and consumer goods. Their primary job function is to be creative and innovative. “Along with problem solving, their work may entail problem finding” (Florida, 2002, p. 69).
: These professionals are the classic knowledge-based workersand include those working in healthcare, business and finance, the legal sector, and education.
They “draw on complex bodies of knowledge to solve specific problems” using higher degrees of education to do so (2002).

5 environmental components that affect creativity:
Encouragement of creativity (which encompasses open information
flow and support for new ideas at all level of the organization, from top
management, through immediate supervisors, to work groups).
Autonomy or freedom (autonomy in the day-to-day conduct of
work; a sense of individual ownership of and control over work).
Resources (the materials, information and general resources available
for work).
Pressures (including both positive challenge and negative workload
pressure).
Organizational impediments to creativity (including
conservatism and internal strife).
