Hymn: TiS 212

1. Christ, whose glory fills the skies,

Christ the true, the only light,

sun of righteousness, arise,

triumph over shades of night;

dayspring from on high, be near;

day-star, in my heart appear.

2. Dark and cheerless is the morn

if you seem not close to me;

joyless is the day’s return,

till your mercy’s beams I see,

till they inward light impart,

glad my eyes, and warm my heart.

3. Visit then this soul of mine;

pierce the gloom of sin and grief;

fill me, radiancy divine;

scatter all my unbelief;

more and more yourself display,

shining to the perfect day.

Charles Wesley

1707–88 alt.

Greeting: The Lord be with you.

AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4)

Prayer of Preparation:

As we gather as God's people let us pray together:

God of love and peace, you know what we think and feel.

Touch our hearts that our thoughts and actions may be good so that

we may love you and honour you, through Jesus Christ our Lord,

AMEN.

The Summary of the Commandments:

‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the

Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all

your mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and

first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your

neighbour as yourself.’

Kyrie eleison (Kew Setting)

The Confession

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's

forgiveness.

God of mercy and grace,

we have sometimes thought wrong things,

and done wrong things and

we have not always loved each other as we should.

We are sorry.

Forgive us and help us to love and obey you ,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Absolution {Celebrant}

Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn

to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your

sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal

life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Day

Eternal God, our glorious King, whose Son Jesus Christ was transfigured

on the holy mountain and seen in splendour by his chosen witnesses:

grant us, his followers, faith to perceive his glory, to listen to him, and to

walk in his way, that we may be changed into his likeness from glory to

glory; for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for

ever and ever. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

Readings from CEV

First Reading: Daniel 7:9-10

Thrones were set up while I was watching,

and the Eternal God took his place.

His clothing and his hair were white as snow.

His throne was a blazing fire with fiery wheels,

and flames were dashing out from all around him.

Countless thousands were standing there to serve him.

The time of judgment began, and the books were opened.

Response: Hear the word of the Lord,

THANKS BE TO GOD

Psalm: 97:1-2, 11-12

1 The Lord is king; let the earth rejoice:

let the multitude of islands be glad. 2 Clouds and darkness are round about him:

righteousness and justice

are the foundation of his throne. 11

Light dawns for the righteous:

and joy for the true of heart. 12

Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous:

and give thanks to his holy name.

WE STAND FOR THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL AS A SIGN OF RESPECT AS WE GREET

OUR LORD WHO IS PRESENT IN HIS HOLY WORD.

The Lord be with you

AND ALSO WITH YOU

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Mark chapter 9

beginning at the 2nd

verse.

GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him. They went up on a

high mountain, where they could be alone. There in front of the disciples,

Jesus was completely changed. And his clothes became much whiter than

any bleach on earth could make them. Then Moses and Elijah were there

talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, “Teacher, it is good for us to be here!

Let us make three shelters, one for you, one for Moses, and one for

Elijah.” But Peter and the others were terribly frightened, and he did not

know what he was talking about. The shadow of a cloud passed over and

covered them. From the cloud a voice said, “This is my Son, and I love him.

Listen to what he says!” At once the disciples looked around, but they saw

only Jesus.

Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord,

PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Alleluia (sung by all)

who made us and loves us.

Offertory Hymn: TiS 242 vv. 1,2,3,5

1. I danced in the morning when the world was begun,

and I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun;

and I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth,

at Bethlehem I had my birth:

Dance then, wherever you may be;

I am the Lord of the dance, said he;

and I’ll lead you all where ever you may be,

and I’ll lead you all in the dance, said he.

2. I danced for the scribe and the pharisee,

but they would not dance and they wouldn’t follow me.

I danced for the fishermen, for James and John,

they came with me and the dance went on:

3. I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame:

the holy people said it was a shame.

They whipped and they stripped and they hung me high,

and they left me there on a cross to die:

5. They cut me down and I leap up high,

I am the life that’ll never, never die;

I’ll live in you as you live in me:

I am the Lord of the dance, said he:
