Libraries must innovate togive users the edge: Experts

Ahmedabad: The 15th edition of the 'Interna-tional Conference on Entrepreneurial Ap-proaches to Librarianship' is currently beingheld in the city at the Entrepreneurship Develop-ment Institute of India (ED!). EDI and Manage-ment Libraries Network (MANLIBNET), inpartnership with Knowledge Consortium ofGujarat (KeG), are organizing the conferencefrom December 26to 28.

Inaugurated by Sunil Parekh, founding cura-tor, World Economy Forum - GS Initiative, theconference has 200delegates participating from1IMs,IITs among others. The pre-conference pro-ceedings containing 88 papers, published byBookwell, New Delhi will also be released duringthe conference.

Parekh in his address emphasized on the im-portantfunction that libraries can perform in to-day's growing economy. He stressed on the needto keep a continuous focus on innovations and re-search in order to be ahead and added that it issignificant to create knowledge and disseminateit to maintain a competitive edge.

Dr Dinesh Awasthi, EDI, highlighted the en-trepreneurial approach that libraries couldadopt today in making learning feasible and rele-vant. Discussing the fundamental features of en-trepreneurship, Dr Jagdish Arora, director, IN·FLIBNET, talked about 'innovation' and

'research' and urged the libraries to adopt thesetraits to function in a manner that helps them re-defme their role to turn challenges into opportu-nities.
