AbstrakThis Final Project is aimed at analyzing social conflict between upper class andlower class found in the story and what social conflicts can be found in the story.The object of the study is London’s short story South of the Slot. The data ofthe study are in the forms of words, phrases, sentences, explicit sentences, as well asimplicit sentences. The data of this study are collected by doing the following steps:reading the short story carefully for many times, identifying the data related togender inequalities issue, inventorizing the data, classifying the data, selecting thedata and at last reporting the data into appendixes. There are several techniques toanalyze the data. They were exposing, enumerating, explaining, interpreting and thelast one is concluding. The interpretation and the explanation are done from the pointof view sociology theory. The purpose of this Final Project is to analyze socialconflict found in the London’s South of the Slot. To come that purpose, the writerapplies structural and sociological approaches. The structural approach is used to getbetter understanding the short story. The sociological approach is assumed that aliterary text is a portrayal of its contemporary society’s condition.Based on the analysis, I can conclude that there are many conflicts betweenupper class and lower class. Such as conflict in different social status, conflict indifferent habitual, conflict in economic, conflict in law, and conflict in cultural.Social conflicts between upper class and lower class happened in the United States in19 century. The social conflicts leads to discrimination in law, economic andcultural sector between upper class and lower class.
