Lets learn

Esta semana continuaremos estudiando el tiempo pasado. Esta vez, trabajaremos

con el verbo to be en situaciones relacionadas con inormacin personal.

Por lo tanto, al nalizar esta semana podrs inormar en ingls tu lugar y echa de na-

cimiento. Tambin, logrars expresar situaciones que viviste cuando eras pequeo.

Lets start

Dnde y cundo naciste?, dnde nacieron tus padres?, cundo nacieron tus her-

manos?, cul ue tu primer trabajo?, y tu primera escuela?

Lets focus

Esta semana estudiaremos el verbo to be en pasado. A dierencia de los otros verbos,

ste no necesita el auxiliar did. Es decir, el verbo to be y el auxiliar did nunca pueden

aparecer juntos. Existen dos ormas del verbo to be en pasado: was y were.

Was lo utilizamos con los pronombres: I, she, he, it

I was at home last night

Were lo utilizamos con: you, we, they.

They were at home yesterday

Para preguntar y contestar en pasado con el verbo to be:

Were you in Carpano? Yes, I was./ No, I wasnt (was not)

Was she at home at 6 pm? Yes, she was / No, she wasnt.

Where were they last Sunday? They were at the park

When was he this morning? He was at work.

Cuando queremos conocer el lugar de nacimiento de una persona, preguntamos de

la siguiente manera:

Carlos Cruz-Diez was born on August 17, 1923 in Caracas, Venezuela. From 1940 un-

til 1945, he studies at the Academy o Fine Arts in Caracas. Following this, his works

primarily display a realistic style o painting. Also during this time, Cruz-Diez works as

a graphic artist or various companies, later holding the position o art director or the

advertising agency McCann-Erickson in Caracas. This is when he becomes interested

in the efective uses o color. From 1953 to 1955, Cruz-Diez is an illustrator or the El

Nacional newspaper, while also teaching art history at the academy o ne arts in

Caracas. In 1955, he goes or two years to Barcelona, also traveling to Paris several

times and immersing himsel in the theories o the Bauhaus school o architecture.He also studies scientic theories o color as well as geometric abstractions. Ater re-

turning to Venezuela, Cruz-Diez opens the Studio or Visual Art, where he investiga-

tes the interaction o color and kinetic art. Carlos Cruz-Diez works as acting director

and proessor o painting at the Academy o Fine Arts o Caracas and as proessor or

typology and graphic design or the School o Journalism at the university in Caracas.

In 1960, Cruz-Diez goes to Paris again, where he works as advisor o the cultural cen-

ter o Noroit in Arras rom 1965 and as lecturer or kinetic techniques at the Ecole

Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris rom 1972. He is appointed proessor and director

o the art department o IDEA - Institut International dEtudes Avances in Caracas in

1986. Cruz-Diez is considered one o the most important artists o Venezuela and has

been honored with many awards.
