Economic Yearbook of the Stara Zagora region is an annual
publication by the Chamber of Commerce andIndustry (CCI) Stara
Zagora. This years edition is the 12th issue. It presents a review
of the regional economyof Stara Zagora via the most visible
manufacturing and commercial enterprises as well as contact
information ofhundreds of companies. The Yearbook is the only
edition that releases exact financial information about more
than300 businesses which influence the image of the economy in
Stara Zagora region. The sales revenue and profit dataof the
companies is represented by comparing information from 2010 and
2011 (the last two years for which publicfinancial reports are
available). This information allows the firms to be ranked
according to the economic indicatorand companys type.In this
publication the Chambers own data is used, as well as data provided
by the National Statistical Institute;Employment Office Directorate
Stara Zagora etc.The data is processed as of January 31, 2013, by
the media team at CCI Stara Zagora Media Centre.This publication is
bilingual written both in Bulgarian and English. It is aimed at all
visitors to the region ofStara Zagora who would like to get
acquainted with the main economic resources of the region;
including managersfrom Bulgarian and foreign companies and also the
general public.The current publication is distributed through
embassies, foreign trade agencies in Bulgaria, commercial fairsand
exhibitions in the country and abroad, at formal meetings in the
District Administration of Stara Zagora and inmunicipalities in the
region. It is also available from the network of Bulgarian and
European Chambers of Commerceand Industry, the European Enterprise
Network, public libraries and bookstores. The yearbook is also used
as areference book by hundreds of company managers from the Stara
Zagora region and elsewhere.The publication has an electronic
version disseminated through Economic portal of Stara Zagora

90. Geographicallocation andinfrastructureof StaraZagora
DistrictThe administrative district of Stara Zagora islocated in
Central Bulgaria, which gives naturaladvantages to the companies
operating within theregion. The territory of the district is
crossed byhighways and first-class roads and railways. Threeof the
European Transport Corridors pass throughthe territory of Stara
Zagora, including the impor-tant connections between the Northern
borderof Bulgaria by the Danube river and the Southernborder with
Turkey and Greece. The completion ofthe Trakiya highway provides a
convenient automo-bile connection from the capital to the sea side
andstimulates the business development in the region.In 2013 the
procedures, aimed at building amodern airport for international air
cargo trans-port, as well as a logistics centre next to it, are
ex-pected to begin. Serious investment interest to
thereconstruction of the airport and resumption of itsactivity was

of the city.Stara Zagora has established excellent com-munications
and infrastructure, allowing the useof natural gas as an energy
source from the mainmanufacturing industries, and this gives them

administrative district of Stara Zagora islocated in an area of
5,151.1 sq. km. Its territorycontains the largest deposits of
lignite coal on theBalkan Peninsula, used as a raw material for
theproduction of electricity by 4 thermal power plants.The energy
sector contributes significantly to theleading position of Stara
Zagora in Bulgarias econ-omy. Thanks to this the region attracts
huge foreignand domestic investments. Over the last few yearsthese
are directed towards construction of new ca-pacities for the power
plants and the moderniza-tion of existing capacity and equipment.
Among theother important natural resources of the region arethe
fertile agricultural lands, forests and dozens ofmineral
springs.The district centre of Stara Zagora ranks sixth inBulgaria
in terms of population after Sofia, Plovdiv,Varna, Bourgas and
Rousse. The town is situated inthe Southern slopes of Sredna Gora
Mountain andhas the following geographic coordinates: 42o25North
latitude and 25o37 East longitude. The aver-age altitude is 197
m.Stara Zagora District is comprised of 11 mu-nicipalities with a
total of 206 settlements, 11 ofwhich are towns: Stara Zagora,
Kazanlak, Radnevo,Chirpan, Galabovo, Pavel Bania, Maglizh,
Gurkovo,Nikolaevo, Shipka and Krun. Two of the municipali-ties
within the district Opan and Bratia Daskalovi,possess the statute
of villages.The average life expectancy in Bulgaria is 76.4years
for women and 69.2 years for men and thesefigures are applicable to
the population of the StaraZagora District. In comparison, the
average life ex-pectancy for EU countries is 80.8 years for
womenand 74.3 years for men.The population density in the region of
StaraZagora is 67 people per 1 square kilometer, and thehighest
rate is in the Regional city, where there liveon average 160 people
per square kilometer.According to the census of the 1st
February2011, the population of the Republic of Bulgaria
is7,364,570 people. In the period between the lasttwo official
censuses in 2001 and 2011, the coun-trys population has decreased
by 564,331 people,with an annual decrease rate of 0.7%.According to
the state administration data, thepopulation of Stara Zagora
District is 357,944 peo-ple. In the municipality of Stara Zagora
there are172,278 residents. Ranked in terms of population,Stara

The economyof StaraZagora DistrictThe main economic activities
which shape theimage of the Stara Zagora Region are: the
process-ing industry, energetics, construction as well asretail and
wholesale trade. Data from the NationalStatistical Institute, which
includes economic indi-cators of approximately 14,300 companies,
showedthat in 2011 their revenues amounted to more thanBGN 8.5
bln., that is an increase of 9% compared tothe previous year. Trade
companies accumulate netsale revenue of BGN 2.7 bln. which means
the sectoris holding on to its lead position. Compared to
theprevious year, the growth is due to the activity ofprocessing
enterprises they have generated a netsales revenue totaling BGN 1.8
bln. and this amountis with BGN 330 mln. an increase from the last
year.The production and distribution of electricity andheat energy
reaches net sales revenue worth BGN1.2 bln. which indicates an
annual growth of BGN128 mln. The construction sector has also
achievedgrowth and the volume of net sales revenue hasreached BGN
803 mln.During the last three to four years the agricul-ture
industry is developing dynamically, howevercompared on an annual
basis the sector shows aslight decrease.Micro companies are the
most numerous inthe region according to the survey of NSI for
thenumber of employees in enterprises. The numberof small companies
(from 10 to 49 employees) inStara Zagora District is approximately
1,000, whilemedium-sized companies are around 180. Fortyenterprises
that have hired more than 250 workersare considered to be
large.Data of the NRA indicates that the number ofactive companies
in Stara Zagora is nearly 62,000.There are 8,900 companies now
registered underthe VAT ACT. As large taxpayers and social
securitypayers are considered 47 companies from StaraZagora
District. There are 222 companies who be-long to the middle tax
bracket. In 2012 the NRAoffice in Stara Zagora has provided
approximatelyBGN 244 mln. in tax revenues and social
securitycontributions to the state budget (excluding theamounts of
large and medium taxpayers and con-tributors in the field).
Revenues are BGN 27 mln.more than the previous year.Tax revenues
are BGN 24 mln. more than theprevious year, and the total amount is
BGN 137mln. A significant increase in revenues from VAT istaken
into account, as the sum collected in 2012 isBGN 71 mln. The paid
corporate taxes are BGN 21mln. Income tax of individuals received
in the statebudget is BGN 44 mln.The GDP of the Stara Zagora
District is approxi-mately 3% of the country amount. Bulgarias GDP
for2012 was EUR 39.5 bln. (assessment of Bulgariannational bank).

Microfinancinginstitution EADJOBS Micro financing institution (MFI)
EADprovides funding through provision of micro-leasing and
micro-credit directed towards microand small enterprises, including
start-up entrepre-neurs, cooperatives, artisans, agricultural
produc-ers and self-employed.JOBS MFI offers: Investment loans
(acquisition of fixed as-sets) Loans for working capitalThe maximum
amount of each loan is up toEUR 25,000 per person or their BGN
equivalent.The term for working capital loan repaymentis from 3 to
24 months and for investment loan - 1to 5 years, as in both types
of credit it is possibleto contract a grace period conformable to
the rev-enues from the activities of the applicant. The an-nual
interest rate for both types of loan is from 11%to 13.3%.The
investment credit is intended for acquisi-tion of any fixed assets
used for manufacture, trade,service, agriculture, etc., for
example: real estate,machinery, equipment, transport vehicles,
agricul-tural machinery and stock. Loans for purchase ofgoods and
property for consumer needs as well asfor residential purposes are
not granted.The financial institution also offers financialleasing
for: industrial equipment, transportationmeans, agricultural
machinery and other equip-ment. It can be up to 25,000 euros
(without VAT)per person or their BGN equivalent. The own
con-tribution of a firm must be at least 20%, and therepayment
period is from 1 to 5 years. In financialleasing schemes is allowed
the purchase of second-hand assets.The grace period is up to six
months for the firstyear and up to three months for the next year.
Theannual interest rate is from 11% to 13.3%.Since the beginning of
2013, Chamber ofCommerce and Industry Stara Zagora is an ex-clusive
representative of JOBS MFI EAD.Through the CCI the companies within
theregion receive another funding tool which givesopportunity for
better implementation of theircommercial activities. The Chambers
role as-sures reduced time and more simple procedurefor obtaining
funds by beneficiaries of BulgarianDevelopment Bank (BDB) AD.The
overall compiling of necessary documenta-tion as well as the
procedure for implementation ofproject activities is carried out
with the support ofexperts from Chamber of Commerce and Industry
-Stara Zagora. This ensures high quality of the busi-ness plans,
correctly implemented projects andshortened time limit for fund
